Those Sweet Times
Chapter 84 Part 2

Lin Chuyan’s streams were very popular, yet as a newcomer who rose to fame all of sudden, it was inevitable that others would become jealous of him. From time to time there would be people who posted rubbish on the bullet comments. Some even praised other stream hosts during his streams or called him names. Lin Chuyan couldn’t tell whether they were marketing tricks or trying to perform sabotage, but he didn’t really care.

There was one good thing that came from being trolled. One time Lin Chuyan saw a netizen with an id called “Chuyan’s dad” who donated a gift in RMB and left a comment: It hasn’t been easy for my son.

This time he finally felt a bit more confident about the blood relationship between his father and himself.

There was only one rule during Lin Chuyan’s stream. That was it was alright to troll him but not alright to troll his girlfriend at all. If someone dared to say bad things about Xiang Nuan, the person would be forever forbidden to speak.

Xiang Nuan was quite moved by Lin Chuyan’s gesture and felt like she should also do something for him. She noticed that Lin Chuyan was ranked sixth on the weekly hot list. If he could move up to fifth place then he would show up on people’s recommendations and be known to even more viewers.

She therefore spent some money to push Lin Chuyan’s stream to number 5.

This time she used her normal id “It’s Nuannuan” to send the gift. Xiang Nuan didn’t think too much into it. She thought, wasn't it quite a common thing to send gifts between boyfriends and girlfriends? Unfortunately there were others who didn’t think so. The next day after she sent the gift, there were posts on the Pea TV forum on Tieba trolling her.

The people criticizing her were probably people who found her offensive. They made speculations about her relationship with Lin Chuyan with utmost maliciousness. They believed that since Lin Chuyan became a stream host, it was proof that he came from a not so well off family. Just because he was such a good looking guy, he must be financially supported by a woman like a gigolo. To them, it didn’t matter whether there was any logical connection between being good looking and being a gigolo. In any case, since Xiang Nuan had given Lin Chuyan so much money, she must be the one who kept him as her beau. Besides, Lin Chuyan always listened to Xiang Nuan no matter what and they talked lovey dovey all the time, the exact behavior of a gigolo.

Since Xiang Nuan had to spend money to keep a gigolo, it was the proof that she probably wasn’t good looking at all

Their conclusion was: Xiang Nuan must be ugly!

Xiang Nuan was dumbfounded after reading all those comments.

She couldn’t stand others misrepresenting the facts and wanted to argue with them. Lin Chuyan stopped her.

“All of those are baseless speculation without any logic. If you argue with them using the logic of any normal person, are you sure they would listen to you? If they can cook up one scenario, they could fabricate another one. It’s not worth it to spoil our mood by arguing with them. We might as well do something else to make us feel happy.”

“Then what should we do?” Xiang Nuan was troubled: “Don’t tell me that I have to show pictures of myself?”

“It won’t work. I’ve looked into some cyber bullying incidents and found out that once you respond, you’re falling into their trap. What those people really want isn’t your response or the truth, but a target to vent their frustration. To stand at a morally higher point to rebuke others will bring these people a sense of fulfilment to their souls. Even they themselves can’t stop their own craving for these kinds of needs. Your response will only give them more fuel to vent about and make them even more excited.”

“But you’re just going to watch them say that you’re a gigolo?”

Lin Chuyan raised his eyebrows and asked: “You don’t mind them saying you’re ugly?”

“They can say what they want. I’m not really ugly anyway.”

“Same here, I’m not really a gigolo. I don’t care what they say.”

Xiang Nuan still felt somewhat disconsolate. She felt like when she looked at her life from a distance, it was perfect. But when she looked closely, it was still quite nice but there was mold in some corners.

Lin Chuyan wasn’t bothered by it. He felt that since he was earning money from the streams, it was just normal to pay some price for it. He only felt sorry that he had gotten Xiang Nuan involved in it.

“Nuannuan, if you don’t like me doing the stream later on, I’ll stop doing it.”

“What are you talking about, I’m not that melodramatic. Lin Chuyan, I hope you will become the super popular king and make those people trolling you have a fit stamping their feet but be unable to do anything about it.”

Lin Chuyan smiled: “Sure.”

  1. I like their attitude towards this. Minding too much about what people say is unhealthy
