Hello Everyone,

I figured that putting our announcements at the start of the chapter would be more visible to our readers than making a separate post. (I'll be copying this same announcement to every chapter we release this week).

We've been seeing a large influx of readers, most likely because of the You're Beautiful When You Smile live action drama was released (called "Falling Into Your Smile" if you aren't aware).

And as such we've noticed an increase in comments about navigation. I understand that the blog format is not very conducive to reading a story unless you've kept up with it from the start. And I've gotten rather lazy updating our project pages (it's quite a tedious thing and the links seem to keep breaking for some reason).

Anyhow, I've recently just updated our You're Beautiful When You Smile project page with links to all the chapters: click here to go to the project page. This should make it easier for users.

Another option is to go to novelupdates.com which automatically links our new chapters for all of our stories. The project page for Beautiful When You Smile is right here. This is what I personally do when reading fan translated novels.

Also to address a few things:

(1) for those requesting prev/next chapter buttons, I'm sorry but we have no intention of adding those as we have to add it manually and it's extremely tedious. Novel Updates already tracks our chapters.

(2) I realize that on mobile, the release schedule is not visible for some reason, but is visible on desktop (I guess it's just how Blogger decides on rendering widgets). Beautiful When You Smile comes out every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. You're My Belated Happiness releases on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I just want to remind our readers that we do this for fun and provide the fan translations for free. So I hope everyone can be patient with our schedule. We appreciate your understanding. Please enjoy the next part in the story below.

Chapter 14 Part 1

On Jinjiang’s anonymous forum, Bishui, people would use the writer’s initials in order to avoid mentioning their pen names directly. For example, SC would be used when they mentioned Cen Sisi’s pen name-- -- “Su Cheng.”

That was the reason why Ruan Yu found the pair of two letters so familiar.

The initial of Cen Sisi’s pen name was exactly the same as Li Shican’s initials. Ruan Yu wasn’t sure whether that was a coincidence or not.

However, she had already had a falling-out with the former and was not in the position to contact the latter either. There was no way for her to find out the connection between the two for the time being.

Shen Mingying gasped: “Is there something going on between the two? See, Cen Sisi does have a dirty mind but isn’t that tactful. How could she stir up such a big storm on Weibo? Besides, didn’t she say it herself that she had just hired a small group of spammers and didn’t know how it got to become a trending topic? Can it be that she’s only using that as a pretext while Li Shican is the actual conspirator behind the scenes to get even with you for not accepting him back in college?”

“......”

That was quite the imagination.

Ruan Yu didn’t know how to think of the scenario. Her cell phone vibrated right at this moment. She lowered her head to check the incoming message.

It was Liu Mao, sending the attorney’s statement together with a notice of acceptance of the case from the court.

She carefully looked over the statement. With the instruction from Liu Mao, Ruan Yu organized her words and prepared to post the statement onto Weibo. Her cell phone vibrated again.

In their chat group, Xu Huaisong: [Not strong enough.]

What followed was the edited statement with red marks all over the place.

Ruan Yu didn’t understand most of the terminology. What she could get from those marks was basically: “change here, change there, change everything here.”

Liu Mao probably couldn’t take it anymore: [You’re looking for bones in an egg.[1] Can’t you give me some credit?]

Xu Huaisong: [We only have one chance with the statement. If it can’t hit the nail on the head, then it’s just a failed attempt. Which is more important, the interest of the client or you getting credit?]

Ruan Yu swallowed as she quietly looked at the screen.

Zhikun Liu Mao: [Then you do it.]

Xu Huaisong: [You make the choice. @Zhikun Liu Mao]

Xu Huaisong recalled the message.

Xu Huaisong: [You make the choice. @Soft Jade]

Ruan Yu: “......”

Was he so irritated that he had even @ the wrong person?

Ruan Yu felt that she shouldn't provoke him even more. She typed: [Then may I trouble Mr. Xu to send me the revised copy. @Xu Huaisong]

Then she sent a private message to Liu Mao: [Mr. Liu it looks like he’s quite annoyed, don’t mind him.]

Afterwards, she felt like even she herself was looking down on what she just did.

It wasn’t easy to keep world peace as a two-faced person.

But to tell the truth, Xu Huaisong wasn’t purposely picking on Liu Mao this time. His diction was much sharper which conveyed irrefutable certainty.

Once the statement was posted, its effectiveness at deterring trolls was immediately shown. Facing the threat of legal action, several posters whose names were listed in the statement quietly deleted their related posts right away.

Within a few hours, Cen Sisi and her spammer army also became as silent as the dead.

Originally, Ruan Yu thought Cen Sisi might feel she had nothing to lose anyway and decided to give her a last blow like having the spammers say that it was the villain filing the suit first.

What she found odd was that it was very peaceful on Weibo after the statement.

Those who were very active in bullying her before were now muted like they had been poisoned.

Early in the morning the next day, a blogger who was quite famous and reputable among the writers posted a long comparison chart according to the timelines of this whole incident which was quite in the favor of Ruan Yu.

This graph, like the long, slandering Weibo post of Cen Sisi before, was quickly shared on the internet.

A lot of people started to apologize to Ruan Yu. Some netizens even started to accuse those posters for stirring up the issue.

Those who supported Ruan Yu now had the room to voice their opinions. The comments from these more disciplined netizens quickly dominated the public opinion.

With that long chart, the whole world seemed to sympathize with Ruan Yu now.

The number of followers on her Weibo quickly rose to close to 300,000.

Ruan Yu was dumbfounded. How could an attorney’s statement be this effective?

That night, there was a new twist to the incident-- --Someone exposed Cen Sisi saying that in real life, Cen Sisi was from the same school as Ruan Yu and it was because of some personal dispute that Cen Sisi had targeted Ruan Yu online.

Everyone reading this was surprised and quickly their focus had shifted from plagiarism to the gossip of the so-called ‘personal dispute in real life.’ 

[1]: 鸡蛋里挑骨头 (jī dàn li tiāo gǔ tou) is an idiom that roughly means “looking for fault where there is none.” Like how you can’t find bones in an egg.
