You’re My Belated Happiness
Chapter 5 Part 1
The next morning, Shen Mingying came to Ruan Yu’s apartment again. She confiscated Ruan Yu’s cell phone and forced her to go to bed. Then Shen Mingying stayed in Ruan Yu’s living room to contact her friends who worked in law.
The incident had gone out of hand. Now the issue wasn’t with “Poem Writer” anymore, but had to do with the writer who posted that long Weibo post, “Su Cheng.”
This person had a falling out with Ruan Yu in the past couple years and it looked like she was taking the opportunity to stir up trouble for Ruan Yu on purpose. Last night, Shen Mingying and Ruan Yu decided to go through the legal process to solve this problem.
Ruan Yu got up after three hours and went to the kitchen to cook brunch for both of them. When she brought pasta and vegetable soup out, Shen Mingying excitedly said: “I’ve made the arrangement. Zhikun Law Firm. It’s right here in Hang City. The lawyer’s digital business card has been sent to your mailbox.”
Ruan Yu replied: “Ok.” After she put down the dishes, she checked her email and her expression changed the very next second: “Is the world really this small?”
Or should she say, is Hang City really this small?
Shen Mingying asked her what was wrong.
Ruan Yu shook her cell phone with a scrunched up face: “This was my blind date from earlier.”
Just a few days ago, Liu Mao had contacted Ruan Yu on WeChat and asked her whether her trouble that day had been solved or not. Since Ruan Yu wasn’t prepared to establish a close relationship with him and didn’t want to trouble him, she simply lied and said it was resolved.
Shen Mingying couldn’t believe what Ruan Yu had told her and asked: “Then, what to do now? I’ve already sent over the details of what has happened.”
What else could she do? Shen Mingying had asked for favors from several people to get a hold of this lawyer. If they would switch lawyers now, it would be an embarrassment for the middlemen.
Besides, according to Shen Mingying’s friends, Zhikun was the best law firm in Hang City and Liu Mao’s specialty was exactly what Ruan Yu needed. They couldn’t just give up the best choice simply because Ruan Yu had lied.
Ruan Yu sniffled: “So be it. Let me contact him.”
When Liu Mao answered the phone, he was obviously surprised. But he was considerate enough not to expose her lie and simply moved on with the conversation.
After they chatted a bit, he said: “Miss Ruan, when would be a convenient time for you? Let’s talk in person.”
Whether he had other intentions or not, Ruan Yu knew it was difficult to explain things like this clearly over the phone. She agreed and said she could go over any time.
Liu Mao checked his schedule and said after a moment of silence: “I have a court appearance today. How’s 10 am tomorrow at my office?”
“No problem. What can I do today to get ready for it?”
“You can take records of all the slander online to a notary to preserve the evidence. I’ll remotely help you go through the process. In addition, don’t announce publicly that you’re thinking of filing a lawsuit just yet so as not to alert the other side. All the other evidence which you haven't published yet, keep it that way as well. Since we’re going to file a lawsuit, we don’t want to tip our hands too early.”
Liu Mao was very confident when talking about things related to his job and his instructions were extremely detailed which earned him Ruan Yu’s trust. Especially when he said “we” in the end, it made Ruan Yu feel secure.
She said: “I understand. Thank you, Mr Liu.”
Liu Mao said: “You’re welcome.” There was another phone call coming in for him. After hanging up with Ruan Yu, he picked up the other call: “Huaisong? Is there any problem with the documents I sent you last time?”

It was 8 am the next morning, Ruan Yu was in deep thought in front of her dresser.
She hadn’t been sleeping well for a few days. If she didn’t put on some makeup, it didn’t seem proper to go out with black circles under her eyes. If she put on full makeup, she was afraid that Liu Mao would misunderstand her intentions.
He was her blind date and she was a bit sensitive about the relationship between the two. She wanted to keep it strictly business this time.
After hesitating for a few minutes, Ruan Yu put on a thin layer of foundation and took the stack of papers Liu Mao had told her to prepare beforehand and walked out the door.
When she was at the doorway, she received a phone call from Liu Mao.
