You’re My Belated Happiness
Chapter 4 Part 1
Because Ruan Yu likes Xu Huaisong, everything has been answered.
When Xu Huaisong wrote in the draft box “You’re so petite, why choose basketball for PE”, or when he was wondering “What rule did you break that made them punish you by standing on the stage”, if he had walked to the back of the piano, he would know the answer.
Yet, he didn’t.
He didn’t know that all of those seemingly random coincidences had been planned by Ruan Yu through various means. All those nights when he was having a hard time falling asleep, she was also thinking of him.
Xu Huaishi turned on the flash on her phone and took a couple of pictures of the wall. Suddenly she shouted: “Whoo wow-- --Zhao Yi, this is so moving-- --”
Zhao Yi trembled with a start and reached over to cover her mouth, but he was too late. The security guard who was patrolling the hallway downstairs heard the noise and immediately rushed upstairs with a high beam flashlight.
Zhao Yi, with eyebrows crossed, blamed her in a low voice: “I think your IQ is also quite moving!”
Xu Huaishi was dejectedly brought by the security guard to the Moral Education Department.
The director of the department, Zhu Feng, thought the two of them were dating. No matter how the two explained, he insisted on calling both of their parents.
Zhao Yi wasn’t a stranger to the director. The director pointed at him and signaled that he would take care of Zhao Yi later. He turned to look at Xu Huaishi: “You first. Your parents’ contact information!” As he was talking, he picked up the phone on the desk.
“Mr. Zhu, I’m wrong……”
“You don’t want to give it to me? Then I’ll ask your room teacher.”
The number the room teacher had was Tao Rong’s cell phone number. Flustered, Xu Huaishi hastily gave the director the number: “209-***-****!” Then she lifted her eyebrows and quickly added: “It’s this number. My parents are in the US!”
She thought the director would give up calling her parents with a foreign phone number. Yet Zhu Feng humphed and dialed the number with an added “001” to that number. The call went through, Mr. Zhu used broken English to say: “Hello, I’m……”
A male voice on the other side interrupted him in Chinese just in time: “How are you?”
Mr. Zhu quietly cleared his throat and introduced himself. Then he explained Xu Huaishi’s offense to the man on the other side.
Xu Huaishi nervously held her breath trying to hear what the other side was saying.
She had called her mother while in the milk tea shop to tell her mother that she would be late going home because she was having dinner with her girl friends. She absolutely couldn’t let Mr. Zhu call her mother right now. She was hoping that her brother would be kind enough to give her a break.
Yet, the very next second, she heard Xu Huaisong’s merciless voice come from the phone: “It’s inconvenient right now for me to take care of this issue. Please call this number to contact……”
It looked like her brother was going to give Tao Rong’s cell phone number to the director. Xu Huaishi jumped up trying to grab the phone. Zhu Feng gave her a stare, Xu Huaishi could only stomp her foot and yell at the phone: “Ge, you’re so mean!”
This person deserved to fail at his puppy love! Xu Huaishi decided that she would never let her brother know that Ruan xuejie liked him!

It was one o’clock after midnight, Ruan Yu and Shen Mingying were lying in bed under the blanket. They were staring blankly in the air while holding their cell phones in hands.
It had been over 24 hours since this whole thing started. Rumors were all over the internet. Though she had tried to clarify things, she still couldn’t completely put an end to the malicious speculation as there was always someone with ulterior motives. Shen Mingying worried about her staying in her apartment all by herself and came over to stay with her.
In the evening, they had noticed that the other author had “read” the message Ruan Yu had sent. They thought they would hear from the other author soon. Yet, up till now, there was no reply from the other side.
They had asked a friend to prepare a comparison column to counter the one posted online, but it wasn’t ready yet. They had done all they could do. As for now, all they could do was wait. There was nothing else they could do.
They eventually fell asleep from exhaustion. The next morning, Ruan Yu started searching her cell phone under the blanket the moment she opened her eyes. After unlocking her phone, she was surprised to see the message from “Poem Writer.”
The message was sent at 2 am that morning.
A Person Writes Poems: [How are you. I’m terribly sorry for causing you trouble. <Her Eyes Can Smile> isn’t my original idea. It’s based on an outline my friend bought from a studio. If my story has infringed on your rights, I’m willing to make a public statement to explain it. I’ll apologize to you publicly and delete my story and my pen name. The following is the statement I’ve drafted. Please look it over. I hope I can minimize your loss as much as I could. Once again, I’m very sorry.]
