You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 139 Part 3

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 139 Part 3

Lu Sicheng was anxiously looking at Tong Yao with a sparkle in his eyes as if he was waiting for her verdict. Seeing that, Tong Yao suddenly had a mischievous idea. She curved up her lips and teased him: “You think too much. Who told you that you’re perfect and superior in my mind?”

Lu Sicheng was taken aback a little: “Isn't it?”

“......No, I’ve seen what you’re like when you cross your legs to cut your toenails, unshaven, with uncombed hair, while wearing cheap t-shirts.”

“......” Lu Sicheng looked into Tong Yao’s playful eyes and came back to his senses shortly: “This isn’t the reason you want to break up with me.”

“I already said I didn’t want to…...Ah!”

He had pulled the strap of Tong Yao’s pajama off her shoulder.

Lu Sicheng’s big hand came up on her.

Tong Yao curled her legs and leaned against his waist-- --

“It’s alright in any case. From now on,” Lu Sicheng tenderly kissed Tong Yao’s lips: “you’re not allowed to bring up breaking up so carelessly.”

“That’s just because I wanted to do it before you broke up with me-- --Ahhh!” Lu Sicheng’s hand touched her body and Tong Yao slightly widened her eyes, her pupils slightly constricted, and her hand on Lu Sicheng’s shoulder tightened a little. When she spoke again, she sounded like she was catching her breath: “I’m wrong, I’m wrong, don’t……”

“There won’t be a day like that.” He buried his face in her neck and spoke, his voice muffled: “Don’t you even think about it.”

He pulled the blanket over their tangled forms on the soft bed.

What happened next came somewhat unexpectedly, yet it also happened quite naturally. Lu Sicheng kept talking intermittently next to Tong Yao’s ear. His warm breath spreaded over her earlobe, making her blush-- --

He said he would become even stronger to shut up all the haters. For esports, there wasn’t anything more persuasive than winning, talking was useless. Tong Yao couldn’t agree more and opened her mouth to try to praise him but the tip of her tongue was gripped by his teeth……

He said no matter what happened, he would always stand in front of her and he would never wait till she had finished crying in the room next door before he came to knock on her door. Tong Yao was quite moved hearing him and the next second, she became teary eyed again when he entered her……

He said he wouldn’t stand to let her suffer at all, but he didn’t have any intention to jam on the brakes when Tong Yao begged him to go slower……

He said that he had accepted the suggestion to keep Tong Yao from playing until her hand wasn't hurting anymore. Tong Yao thought to herself that as it stood now, the problem didn’t seem to be that her hand hurt, but her whole body hurt and was burning hot……

-- --It’s said that you can’t believe what a man says in bed no matter how nice it sounds, since after he gets off the bed, everything he had said was utter nonsense…… Lu Sicheng, in this regard, was quite unique. He was living proof of the saying while still in bed. Every promise he had just made had already been broken.

……

“Now I don’t have any reason not to take care of you for the rest of your life. Therefore, about breaking up, let me say it again: don’t even think about it.”

“......”

In the end, Tong Yao was so exhausted that it didn’t feel like her body belonged to her anymore, not even her own pores. While Lu Sicheng carried her, sweating all over, to the bathroom to clean up, he was still energetically repeating all those promises next to her ear-- --

Tong Yao was so tired that she couldn’t even lift up her little pinky. She didn’t have much of a response to whatever Lu Sicheng was saying, and only glanced at him with half squinted eyes to show him that she was alive and had heard him.

She looked at her own underpants on the ground in a daze and really wanted to go back three hours ago to slap herself in the face for mentioning breaking up with him.

…...She had only herself to blame for what she had brought on to herself.

  4. I really like the main characters in this novel but sometimes their personalities change radically. The author is doing something that makes me very angry and I'm even thinking of stopping reading it. Even though it's only a book and everything is fiction, she is normalizing some totally unforgivable behavior.

This last chapter together with others are unpleasant to read. I am very grateful to the translators and nothing I am going to complain about has to do with them, on the other hand the author of this story is doing something really wrong.

She is making horrible situations look normal and even something that women have to put up with. It is not the first time, all the scenes in which the protagonists have been about to have s*x have been equally unpleasant to read.

Sicheng has a totally inconsiderate and selfish behaviour. He behaves totally like a r*pist. Because yes, r*pists are not only old and strange men who follow you at night, your partner can also rape/assault you.

They also portray s*x as an obviously unpleasant activity for women, as if it were an activity only to satisfy their partner and not for the pleasure of both. In the chapter where they were in a hotel, Tong Yao is also accused of leaving Sicheng unsatisfied as if it were something, she should feel guilty about and Sicheng even gets angry.

In this chapter the author even makes it look as if she is the responsible and guilty one. As if men cannot control themselves and it is normal behaviour. As if it was not a big problem.

Your first time doesn't have to be painful or considered a bad experience. Not all women have pain but if they do, the other person should be considerate and patient enough to make it as bearable and good as possible for you.
If you don't want to, don't feel ready or confident enough you don't have to have s*x with anyone until you feel like it, you don't owe anyone anything.
Tong Yao was clearly uncomfortable and scared so nothing should have happened in the first place. Sicheng knew this and yet she proceeded without any care as if he was doing it to an inflatable doll. She obviously didn't enjoy it and it's not something she wants to repeat.
Simply unpleasant and disgusting to read.

This is something that angers me not only because they distort and disagree with their personality in the rest of the book but also because these books are read by minors who can end up normalising and idealising something that is WRONG.

In the next episode Sicheng even implies that next time it will be better, that it simply hurt so much because it was her first time. Which is not true. If this were a real situation and not a book, I don't think she would ever enjoy s*x with him.

The comments have disappointed me as they have applauded this behaviour as if it was funny and even good.

    1. Yeah... Which kind of good lover would bring his woman to a state of walking limpingly after having sex with him?
In some other stories it's even to the state that their wife/GF can't even wake up of bed the next morning... even worse, for few days (rolling my eyes).
That is only a state of a woman after being gang raped by ruthless men, by no means a man who love us deeply would do such a thing despite how passionate he is.
And frankly speaking, if a man is truly a "God in Bed", then he would be so skilled that he would never cause pain to girls even in their first sex.

    3. In my horrible oppinion, I think the author had not much time to gather all of the variable or story in this novel such as about the stage of competition, love story, circumtance or anything else.. feel like rush between one and another factor or storyline
Example the upcoming match is about to come and end but the love story is not yet some level or still have to be more way to go.. and there is more issues like about haters, about another team or else that come up..
      The timeline crash..

But at least, I enjoy the story :)
I hope the drama adaptation is going well and more better :)
Today just 22/31 to go and I like xu kai and cheng xiao interaction as cheng ge and tong yao .. also little fatty, lao mao, lao K, lu yue
The drama adaptation make my heart fastbeating every episode that come up...
I recommend you guys to watch this drama adaptation..
      Falling into your smile :)

Also.. thank you for translate the chapter one by one for this team :)

  5. " She had only herself to blame for what she had brought on to herself " this is like... a really awful thing to say?
sex should be something enjoyable and Tong Yao clearly didn't enjoy her first time :/ as her partner Lu Sicheng should have been more supportive and kind because hello????!? this felt like a whole rap* scene to me. Honestly this chapter was so disturbing to read i really hope they dont add this scene to the drama

    1. This is pretty normal in chinese novels.
It's a lot better than those novels back then which used to have those forced sex stuffs and it was really like a rape. Chinese novels mostly portray the female lead as the one who does not like sex and male lead as someone who can last the whole night lol.
I guess after reading a lot of Chinese novels, it seems like it's nothing new for me

    2. LOL... true. And some people called me racist by pointing out some clichee things which are far away from being reasonable nor logical in chinese novels (atleast when we are not talking about: the world of xianxia, wuxia, fantasy realm and not even in ancient era setting, but talking about a modern story instead).

The funniest thing about the accusation was that I my self am an Asian and such clichee mindset unfortunately doesn't only exist in China (which I also pointed out clearly in my old comments).
I wouldn't have been reading any Asian novel at all if I were racist afterall LOL.
To be honest..the hostile reaction of many fan readers here towards any critics and unpleasant analysis are exactly showing the prove of how "sadly realistic" the cyber bullying scandals done by fanatic fans which is described in this novels.
Such kind of fans simply do not want to hear anything unpleasant about their idol, refusing to check whether the comments are actually constructive or at least make sense.
I feel actually also very disturbed to read how ridiculous the fans' reaction inside the story too..
It's as if the people are expecting their idol to grow old being single and live their life merely being their amusement tools...solely making them happy but not allowed to seek their own happiness. They basically told their own idol to be lonely and working like a maschine to amuse them.
This kind of plot is also quite typical...found a lot already :-D.
I know that being public figures one must be ready to lose a certain amount of freedom and be careful with one's action since one is becoming some kind of example/inspiration for the fans.
However it still doesn't mean that public figure have to sell their soul too and have no right of own happiness anymore.

  9. All i can say she didn’t say NO!!! And no i don’t think it was awful at all! From the beginning story plot has suggested even Cheng ge has suggested moving on with the relationship and Tong Yao was ready! Well every girl is shy and nervous and we has seen that phase as well in this chapter it was clear that Tang Yao was affirmative about having sex!! Though the contraceptive part did disturb me a little.. we’ll see what happens next

  10. Sorry, English is not my native language.

First, it would be great if Sicheng can make it as bearable and good as possible for Tong Yao. But does he have enough experience for this?
Secondly, it is a cliché from Chinese novels and dramas that a girl feels pain and fatigue after losing her virginity. I know of one historical novel where the heroine even used the medicine for several days, although everything was by mutual consent.
In fact, some of the ML in Chinese novels behave so badly that Sicheng's behavior does not seem so bad compared to them.

  11. She asked him to slow down. She was in pain. He's not a good man; he's a bad man. I wonder if this is indicative of Chinese culture and if women are really treated so poorly in Asia. If so, no woman is likely to have a psychologically sound mind over there with this sort of sexual abuse treatment. This story and the comments people are making are causing me to think that it is no wonder people talk about the stereotype of Asian parents being abusive and unloving -- if this is how young women are treated in their first sexual experience, they're probably scarred for life and then pass their trauma on to their children. Why would a Chinese woman always be kind and nurturing to her children if the process of having them was so painful and disrespectful and lacking any dignity? Probably every few times she sees her kids she will feel angry, upset, and violated.

    1. Uhmm excuse me but when have "stereo type of asian parents" become abusive and unloving??... Keep your facts straight... I won't react by how you point out your opinions but saying that asian parents are stereotypically abusive and unloving is so not true, yes they are more strict and disciplinary but they do it out of love especially when we are in the wrong... That's why we never take jokes to far as to be too much to hurt other's

  12. I'm sorry but after reading these comments, which I think some are way off base, I wonder if these people ever had sex? She said slow down (been there) doesn't mean it didn't end well. Also, she said THREE Hours later! Sorry but usually anyone going at it for three straight hours would be feeling sore and if not, you may be in better shape than most. She seemed to feel guilty for over thinking the situation not be cause of the sex. Again, these comments were totally out there and I agree, she's didn't say "no" only "go slow."

I haven't read the next page but I didn't think she was a virgin after all she was in a relationship in college with a person for quite a while. It just may have Bern quite a while ago. (Been there, too)

    1. Based on the next chapters I think the author implied that it was TY's first time. Other than that I quite agree that going at it for 3 hours for your first time is...😏😚😍😍

  14. I wouldn't agree that Cheng did a bad thing. Yaoyao didn't refuse, it's just normal for a virgin like to think that she might have made a mistake. As for Cheng gege sexual experience based on the previous chapters he focused on palying and doesy have time to date.. thus on my conclusion it's his first time as well..

    What do you think?

  15. I think there was mutual consent. They have been fooling around before this without penetration obviously. She didn't explicitly say NO and the regret at the end was (in my own interpretation) her ideas of breaking up with him and letting her imagination run wild with the overthinking. From the past chapters, it seems like Tong Yao has a very modern approach to sex, probably not as modern than her friend Jin Yang. They've acknowledged that all were adults and that it's normal to have sex. The only thing that's problematic for me is the no contraception thing. I think it would have been a great idea when the author slipped that in somehow. Also not just in Chinese novels, even in Western novels, it's stereotypical to have the heroine be not into sex as much as the male lead and that sex hurts etc. Even if there's consent, it's like heroines are supposed to be demure, not too forward about wanting stimulation and the like, and that not explicitly wanting it makes her pure or morally upright or whatever.

    1. I think the problem is that the author didnt give much description. As in like in western novels were the description is like a step by step colorful, flowery description of mutually agreed love making. Im quite surprised to read comments that this particular scene is quite tamer to other cnovels regarding intimate scenes between main leads (its diturbing for me.id probably not gonna read another cnovel if thats the case). Another problem is the minor readers and how they would react and consciously/or subconsiously apply this situation in real life. Yeah, we all know its fiction. But what about them

      Delete
    2. It's largely a cultural difference how sex is described in western versus Asian books. It has to do with the cultures acceptance of sex. And also the cultures acceptance of rape. In the USA, where I'm from, rape is really not ok (its not ok anywhere for the record, but it does seem to be more accepted elsewhere). I think authors write sex scenes with that in mind so they over explain some things.

I'm in a few author's readers group on Facebook and this was recently a topic of discussion, well not exactly the rape/consent discussion) but should contraception be explained every time the characters have sex. And it was split 50/50 I would say as to whether the readers wanted it to be said every time or would find it unrealistic and would jar them out of the enjoyment of the book.

This was uncomfortable to read because I feel like there was information left out, like he did slow down, like she did actually enjoy it, like contraception was used (or being taken). But I don't think he raped her.

  16. People in the comment section, who are asking about lack of mention of Contraception. Have you seen Asian population? Especially China and India. After seeing that, do you think people here are very high on using contraceptions during sex? Yes times are changing, and knowledge of sex education and being openminded about it can be seen. Sex before marriage is less of a taboo now. But even this book, chengge said, “Now I don’t have any reason not to take care of you for the rest of your life. Therefore, about breaking up, let me say it again: don’t even think about it.” I mean you can get the essence of how big a deal having sex is, that just he has had sex with her, she is his responsibility for the rest of his life. And I think we can make out from this that she didn't have sex before with Jian Yang. This was her first time. I wish it was written better and a little more realistically than her not even being able to lift a pinky. But ah well!

    1. But all that being said, I think it was very poorly written. Especially as the first time for both of them, it shouldn't have happened when they were going through so much. The timing really bugged me. Lol, of all the things wrong with this., my biggest issue is with the timing. But anyways. What happened, happened. Let's see the consequences.
