Starlight Has No Past
Chapter 15 Part 2

Zhou Tingsheng eyed the scar on Ye Qiao’s chest and asked: “Does it hurt
more now or when you had the surgery?”
Ye Qiao looked pale with cold sweat all over her body. She answered in a
feeble voice as the cold sweat glistened on her pale body: “I was under
anesthesia then.”
Zhou Tingsheng insisted: “But afterwards you should’ve still been able to
feel it.”
Ye Qiao’s eyes looked dull: “It hurt more then.”

It wasn’t just the incision that hurt, there were something else.

She shivered as the damp air streamed through the window.
Ye Qiao wrapped the robe tighter around her body. She finally gave up
fighting with herself: “When I was lying down just now, it reminded me of
that time. When the anesthesia hadn’t taken full effect, I was lying on the
surgery table thinking it would be so nice if the surgery failed. A person
would be truly clean only if she’s dead. Even for a not so decent person,
death would cleanse her.”
She grew more talkative: “Yet, I thought to myself that I have to live. I owed
too much to too many people and I couldn’t stand that.”
Even until this day, she still lived as if she was carrying on a mission. And
that was the reason why she also yearned for oblivion.
Zhou Tingsheng pulled the robe higher: “Who gave you the heart?”
“A man on death row. He murdered someone and got executed. He donated
his heart to me.” Ye Qiao’s hair was soaking wet, stick to her pale face, as if
she had been drenched in the rain. She mumbled: “He was a nice man.”

Zhou Tingsheng didn’t saying anything for a long while. He took out a cigarette
from his pocket and lit it.
From the side, he looked like a cat as he smoked. His eyes gleamed, but no
one could walk into them.
For the first time, Ye Qiao didn’t object to him smoking. She quietly watched
him for a while then said: “Do you have more? Give me one.”
Zhou Tingsheng silently refused.

He stood next to the window amid the pattering sound of the rain, watching
indifferently as she walked towards him unsteadily. The smoke made it look
like a scene from a movie.
Ye Qiao was wearing a pure white cotton bath robe, just like the person wearing
it, cold yet comfortable. The robe wrapped around her tightly, exposing only her
long white neck. She stopped right in front of him, wrapped her arms around his
waist, and pressed her thin lips over his mouth, inhaling the smoke already inside.
The robe wrapped tightly around her chest, but he knew that there was nothing
else underneath.
The image of her bare, porcelain like skin resurfaced in front of his eyes. It was
smooth and tender as if a single touch would leave a permanent blemish.

The rain grew louder; like a wave of desire.
Subconsciously, the tips of his fingers quivered.

It seemed to come quite naturally. Some Japanese tattoo artists even provided
a special service where they caress their customer to lessen the pain as they
were getting their tattoo. Lust was a superb anesthetic, it could let a person
forgot about the pain, whether it be in the past or in the present.
But he couldn’t forget.

As they passionately kissed in the other’s arms, the waistband of the bathrobe
loosened. Zhou Tingsheng suddenly pushed her away and pulled the robe up,
covering her collar bone.
Stunned, Ye Qiao gave him a quizzical look. She could feel it clearly that he
also wanted her.
Zhou Tingsheng helped retie the waistband. His chin was touching her shoulder,
he was breathing heavily: “Take a good rest after taking your medicine.”
Ye Qiao frowned in disbelief over what she just heard or perhaps in anger.
Zhou Tingsheng chuckled and coughed out a puff of smoke: “When is your
flight tomorrow?”
“Three o’clock.” Ye Qiao robotically answered. Her body was warming up, but
her eyes were turning cold.

He tied the waistband in a knot for her and even lightly kissed her ear lobe:
“I’ll miss you.”
