You're My Belated Happiness - Chapter 17 Part 3

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re My Belated Happiness
Chapter 17 Part 3

Liu Mao thought about it then asked Xu Huaisong: “Do you know anything about ‘pseudo-attraction’?”

Xu Huaisong gave him a glance.

“I have a friend who was attracted to a girl not too long after he started college but he didn’t tell anyone. Before graduation, he heard from others that that girl also liked him. The situation is quite similar to yours. But guess what happened later on?”

There was no response. Liu Mao continued: “Afterwards, he began chasing after that girl and eventually they became a couple. But what happened next?” He gestured with two of his fingers: “They broke up after two months. Because in reality, when they were mutually attracted to each other, they didn’t really know each other. After they were together, they found out the relationship wasn’t what they had thought it would be. It turned out that they had been living in their own imagination.”

Xu Huaisong cast his eyes and drank even more.

“My friend told me later on that when he was chasing that girl, he was totally controlled by his own obsession. All he could think of then was that it was too pitiful if he let her slip away. After breaking up, he realized that what he had felt was ‘pseudo-attraction’ created by ‘regret.’ But his realization came too late. A memorable mutual crush and the good impressions of each other were all destroyed by……”

“What do you mean?” Xu Huaisong put down the glass with a thud: “Persuade me to back away so you can avail yourself of the opportunity to get her?”

Liu Mao almost choked: “For heaven’s sake, I……”

Before he could offer his explanation, Xu Huaisong had picked up his suit jacket and strode to walk out.

When Liu Mao came out after paying the bill, Xu Huaisong was nowhere to be found.

Xu Huaisong didn’t have a local phone number yet. Liu Mao could only contact him with a WeChat voice call. The call rang for a while before getting picked up.

Liu Mao asked: “Where are you?”

“On a taxi……”

“Going back to the hotel?”

The voice of Xu Huaisong sounded a little blurry. He stayed quiet for quite some time before saying: “To her home.”

Ruan Yu got up around 2 am. It was probably because she took a nap in the afternoon. She became wide awake after she had gotten into bed.

Since she couldn’t sleep, she started checking her friend circles on her cell phone.

She wasn’t expecting to see any new posts at this hour. But once she refreshed the page, she saw a new post posted not too long ago.

Zhikun Liu Mao: [Accompanied someone to get drunk late into the night. Not much particular feeling, just one character: vertical, horizontal, vertical, horizontal, vertical, left-falling, right-falling, horizontal.][1]

He also posted a picture with a row of vodka bottles, showing only a corner of the table.

There wasn’t anything else.

Ruan Yu followed the stroke sequences as she drew on her bed sheet and came up with the character “困” (sleepy). Ruan Yu thought that Liu Mao seemed to be much more interesting than when she first met him.

She quickly went through her friend circle and didn’t see anything else that was interesting. She went back to check Weibo.

After pondering for a few days, she had made the decision only a few hours ago to not continue writing <Really Want to Whisper in Your Ear>. The chapter she had written about the female lead’s erotic dream had already embarrassed her enough. She couldn’t embarrass herself any further.

Therefore, she had posted her apology and announcement on Weibo.

Ruan Yu clicked open that post and wanted to see how her readers reacted to her statement. She would pick a few of them to respond to. Suddenly she saw the one at the very top.

This particular post seemed to have come from some other blogger who was trying to attract attention to himself and wasn’t really a fan. The id of this person was “Good quotes about love affairs” and he wrote: [Everyone has to look forward anyway. There’s nothing that isn’t going to pass. It’s only that one can never go back to where it was.]

Heavens, how could she have liked this post? When did her hand slip?

She shrugged and had goosebumps all over her arms, then quickly canceled the like.

You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 180 Part 3

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 180 Part 3

While the audience was surprised by Tong Yao’s swift movements-- --

At bot, Old K coordinated with their bot duo and attacked the enemy’s bot duo three times with another two pincer attacks. OP’s support died and their AD used two of his summoner’s abilities to get away in a flurry but still died on his way back thanks to ZGDX’s top. ZGDX was in the lead in kills, 2 : 0!

As this happened, Tong Yao returned to mid lane. It looked like she was back to the laning phase with Jin Yuguang. But she briskly cast the red card and threw it squarely at the second melee creep of the minion wave, then used Q to quickly take down the entire wave of minions and went up to level 6-- --At this very moment-- --the audience couldn’t even figure out how ZGDX was able to coordinate so quickly-- --when Twisted Fate had the first use of his ultimate and circle of rotating cards showed up at bot, their top also teleported to bot. Together with Old K, who was hiding in the enemy’s jungle, they combined with their own bot duo to kill the enemy’s bot duo once again and also took down the first tower of the game!

The series of movements happened in less than 20 seconds!

It went so fast that even the commentators didn’t have time to clearly tell the audience what was happening!

Commentator D: [Because his other teammates are all nearby, Jin Yuguang has given up on the idea of coming to help…… He should be quite frustrated. This Twisted Fate has been a ghost on the battlefield. The last second she was on top, then she went back to mid, then she’s level 6 and left again……]

Commentator F: [I believe that Jin Yuguang’s also dumbfounded right now…… After all, this round’s laning phase seems to have lasted for only five minutes. Hum, five minutes. To Smiling, mid lane is just a place to farm.]

Commentator E: [Laning phase? There wasn’t one.]

Commentator D: [Now, Smiling’s working with K to get the first drake-- --Hahahahaha, she’s really busy! ZGDX seems to have two junglers. OP seems quite irritated because the enemy always has another person to help with other lanes, either their jungler or their mid!]

Commentator F: [They go anywhere that’s not mid.]

-- --Indeed, this round’s roaming was exactly the strategy that Tong Yao had figured out while sitting out the last round. After she had witnessed how frustrated Lu Yue was at mid in the last round, she finally realized that Jin Yuguang was very strong and if she kept on thinking about how to defeat OP by defeating him at mid, her overall mapsense would be subconsciously limited. This was a five-person game, in addition to mid there was top and the AD!

Mid?

She couldn’t beat him at mid, but she could farm all the minions then run.

There would be no one at mid for him to come to gank.

With Tong Yao’s Eye of the Watcher in addition to Little Fatty’s and Old K’s Sightstones, ZGDX was able to place wards in the enemy’s jungle at bot…… With the two ganks at top and bot by Tong Yao, Jin Yuguang became isolated at mid. Very quickly, the game’s tempo was in ZGDX’s!

At the 20th minute, the normal laning phase at top and bot ended. ZGDX was in a big lead with 7 : 0 kills. In addition, the skill of their AD was greater than OP’s and it was impossible for them to lose a single team fight!

At the 27th minute, OP’s five players, who were behind ZGDX by 6000 gold, worked as a group to kill Old K, then they cleared the minion lane at mid and turned to begin fighting Baron……

Old Cat went back to base right under OP players’ nose.

Commentator D: [It looks like ZGDX’s going to give up the Baron this time.]

Commentator F: [After clearing a wave of minions, the jungler’s going to respawn soon. If ZGDX goes for the fight and waits for their jungler to come back, they won’t necessarily lose. I don’t understand why they’re simply giving up. It feels like a wrong decision……]

Before the commentator finished what he wanted to say, unexpectedly, ZGDX went in for the fight, 3 against 5, without their jungler and top-- --

You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 180 Part 2

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 180 Part 2

Tong Yao: “6666. I expected that your Weibo profile page is exploding right now and they’re painting a target on your face on Tieba……”

“It’s alright, I’ll be dissed anyway if we lose this round. If we win, I’ll be a god, the incarnation of confidence……” Little Fatty shook his legs as he banned the champion that Jin Yuguang had played so well in the last round, Corki: “Have you come up with any countermeasure during the time you were off stage? I saw your face when you held Cheng Ge’s hand which said that you’re going to carry him……”

Lu Sicheng: “That’s right. What are you going to take this round, wife?”

Nowadays, Lu Sicheng would address Tong Yao, in addition to “hey”, “shorty”,and “our mid”, in various ways as he pleased without any consideration to whether it was in a public place or not…… Tong Yao gave him a glance: “Twisted Fate. I’m not going to play the laning phase with him, I can’t fight him anyway.”

Old Cat heard Tong Yao and immediately took Twisted Fate for her.

Commentator D: [Twisted Fate.]

Commentator F: [I was in shock for a moment.]

Commentator E: [OP’s coach looked like he was also in shock…… What, you know how to play Twisted Fate as well? !]

Commentator D: [Does every mid from the LPL teams know how to play Twisted Fate? Heavens, Twisted Fate! I’ve never seen Tong Yao play him!]

Commentator F: [What’s happening? Didn’t they say that ZGDX had the last trump card of LPL which was Lu! Hey, wrong information! You can see that OP didn’t even try to ban Twisted Fate when facing Smiling!]

Commentator E: [...................................................That’s why I said their coach seemed to be in shock.]

While the commentators were chatting, Old K took Kindred. Then Tong Yao locked Tahm-- --At this juncture, everyone thought ZGDX is going to copy OP’s super life saving duo with Tahm as support to work with Kindred as jungler. Therefore, OP immediately picked Zilean to counter without giving it much thought…… What they didn’t expect was that the moment they locked in Zilean, ZGDX’s Ming god, who was responsible for the ban & pick phase, would say: “Nice!”

Another unexpected scene happened right afterwards-- --

It was a trick ZGDX had used during skirmishes-- --

ZGDX locked Kalista and Annie for their last two picks. Then Tahm whom everyone thought was the support was switched to top. The bot duo became the classic pair during S5, Kalista plus Annie!

Commentator D: [We can see that OP seems to be a little surprised…… Actually, if they didn’t take Zilean, there’s other better choices for their line-up. Does this count as being tricked?]

Commentator F: [ZGDX seems to have made some adjustment to their strategy. I don’t think, under normal circumstances, Smiling would be a player who likes to use Twisted Fate……]

The game started as the commentators went on.

-- --What happened next proved that ZGDX truly had made a lot of adjustments in this round…… Hrm, to be more exact, it’s the way their mid played the game that had changed a lot. From the beginning when the minions entered the lanes, Tong Yao had been keeping her cool. She managed to keep the minions in the middle, between the two towers, and didn’t engage in much training……

Jin Yuguang also returned to the more consevertive way of playing in the first round.

Both of them stayed low.

When their mid reached level 5, everyone could see that Tong Yao had picked up her speed in clearing minions-- --When the minions pushed over, she quickly cleaned them up then turned  to leave…… Everyone thought she was in a hurry to get her own first blue buff. However, after a short while, when the video feed switched to a direct shot of her, everyone was surprised to see that ZGDX’s mid had shown up at top!

She wasn’t even at level 6 yet!

She walked all the way to top!

OP’s top, who had been calculating the direction of ZGDX’s jungler’s movement and knew that Old K was at bot at the moment, was happily farming and surprised to see Twisted Fate suddenly showed up at top-- --But this realization was too late for them. Together with ZGDX top’s Tahm, Tong Yao took out a yellow card, stunned, and delivered a series of blows to OP’s top. Along with Old Cat, she didn’t even give her opponents a chance to counterattack or run away before she got her first blood. She then quickly returned to the safe zone before Jin Yuguang could be there and went back to base!

You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 180 Part 1

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 180 Part 1

[At this moment, I just want to stand up and sing the national anthem: the Chinese nation is at its most perilous moment……]

[To all the dads, hang in there. QAQ!]

[Ah, ah, I’ve gotten some insider information that Smiling will be switched back in. This round of rotation is a bit too much…… I feel Tong Yao isn’t as good as Lu Yue, at least Lu Yue didn’t get killed…… Sigh, if it isn’t OP, ZGDX could beat any other team. So annoying. What a pity.]

[They can switch to anyone they like, no one can defeat Jin Yuguang, hahahahahahaha. The other two lanes for both teams are about the same, ZGDX was even better than OP at bot. But what’s the use? In the early game, both mid and top couldn’t do anything. It was like a slow death, they couldn’t even hang in there till Lu Sicheng took over the game before the game was over…….]

[The one above who said Smiling isn’t as good as Lu is really wasting electricity watching the match. Do you think it’s a good play as long as the player didn't die? Can’t you tell that Jin Yuguang used a totally different strategy in the second round than the first? Actually, the second round was a goner much earlier than in the first round. From the 14th minute onward, ZGDX’s mid was stuck at mid and Jin Yuguang had the freedom to go wherever he wanted. OP had complete domination of the jungle, able to see anyone that entered. At that moment, ZGDX had already lost the match…… To tell the truth, if ZGDX can’t find a way to break Jin Yuguang’s domination, they can only wait for a 3 : 0. If it wasn’t for the fact that Lu Sicheng had fought hard in those team fights, this best of 5 match probably would’ve finished in one hour!]

……

The fans of the LPL region feared that ZGDX would be eliminated from the quarter-finals with a 3 : 0. The crucial third round started amidst their discussion-- --

Tong Yao was back in the line-up as some of the fans had said for the third round…… When the players walked up to the stage, Tong Yao followed Lu Sicheng while moving her wrist around. The commentators began teasing about her presence-- --

Commentator D: [Now the players are back on the stage. We can see the four players of ZGDX…… Uh Oh, hei, ZGDX, where’s your mid?]

The audience immediately got the punchline and burst out laughing.

Commentator E: [.........]

Commentator F: [Gagagagagagagagagagagaga! We can see Smiling who’s walking behind Chessman poke her head out and give a stare at the commentators table. Gagagagagaga, relax, young lady, it’s just a joke. I dream of finding a girlfriend who can hide behind me because then I can feel as strong as Superman-- --Uh, uh, uh, I think she probably knows what I’m saying because I see her laughing.]

Commentator E: [Don’t be rude. I’ve heard that the Chinese start learning English when they’re 8.]

Commentator F: [To connect to the international world.]

Commentator D: [Uh, uh, uh, the latest information I’ve received shows that Smiling had studied in England before…… Thanks to the people backstage for reminding me. In that case, alright, I’m wrong, sorry. It’s really an irritating feeling to have someone who can understand what I’m saying but I don’t know what they’re saying-- --]

The players sat down at their seats. OP had already won the first two rounds and looked quite relaxed. As for ZGDX……

They were in good spirits too, chatting and laughing.

The screens of the streams back home were covered with comments like “optimistic” “tens of millions has already received for throwing the match, they can’t even pretend to have a sad expression at this point”-- --

Inside the chat channel, Tong Yao happened to sneeze. She lifted her hand to rub her nose and took a look at the camera which was aimed at them not too far away: “Teammates, manage your expressions. Back home they’re probably dissing us as an optimistic Daigou[1] team.”

Little Fatty: “No, they aren’t. Did you see that I missed a hook when I flashed in the last round? You know, just now during the break, someone asked me on Weibo whether I was trying to throw the match, otherwise how could I be so bad.”

Everyone: “......”

Little Fatty: “I told him that I’m still going to take Thresh this round to prove that I’m really bad, not because I’m trying to throw the match.”

Everyone: “......”

You're My Belated Happiness - Chapter 17 Part 2

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re My Belated Happiness
Chapter 17 Part 2

Xu Huaisong slept till 11pm at the hotel. When he woke up, he opened Ruan Yu’s Weibo out of habit.

Her Weibo account has reenabled comments and private messages two days ago but she hadn’t updated it yet. But now, to his surprise, he saw a new message, posted an hour ago.

Wenxiang: [I come here to say sorry, <Really Want to Whisper in Your Ear> probably will not be continued. Jinjiang coins will be refunded. This decision has nothing to do with the online bullying incident earlier. Good night, everyone.]

Xu Huaisong blinked and pulled up to see comments underneath.

The comments were crammed with exclamation marks and cryouts like “Don’t”. There were others who asked “Why”.

Ruan Yu didn’t give anyone an answer. But the comment on the very top showed that it had been “liked” by the blogger. It seemed that this comment was approved by Ruan Yu.

Xu Huaisong read that particular comment, then put down his cell phone and opened the window to let the breeze come in. Finally, he made a phone call: “Come out for a drink?”

It was 1 am in a bar and Liu Mao could barely keep his eyes open. He looked around his empty surroundings and grabbed the glass from Xu Huaisong’s hand: “You don’t talk while drinking? Have you considered that I might get very sleepy this way since I don’t have jet lag?”

Xu Huaisong took another glass. He was already a bit tipsy but still in his right mind.

He shook the liquor inside the glass and gave Liu Mao a glance, then said: “What to talk about? Your blind date?”

Liu Mao was speechless.

Last time when Xu Huaisong was at Hang City, Liu Mao had already told him how he got to know Ruan Yu. The result was that he was now constantly being taunted by Xu Huaisong.

Xu Huaisong, on the other hand, had never mentioned his relationship to Ruan Yu.

Liu Mao sighed: “Nevermind if you don’t want to talk.”

“If I told you, make sure you won’t drop your chin on the table.”

Liu Mao: “Geez, what earth-shattering story can it be to let an almost 30 years old man drop my chin on the table?”

Three minutes later, a loud bang could be heard in the quiet bar.

Liu Mao covered his chin and said: “Even <Romance in the Rain>[1] doesn’t have a story like yours.”

Xu Huaisong turned his head away and smiled, but didn’t say anything.

Liu Mao was dumbfounded for a long while before asking: “Even if you didn’t know how she felt at the time, why didn’t you try to confess to her? Why didn’t you say something? Were you really trying to be a merit student?”

Xu Huaisong was quiet for a moment, then smiled again: “You should know very well what my family was going through then.”

Liu Mao didn’t know what to say. After a while, he asked: “Then, what do you think now?”

“Don’t know.”

Xu Huaisong was telling the truth.

Too many years had passed. Reality wasn’t a tv drama which could just use a caption that said “eight years later” to brush off what had happened in between then and now.

In fact, from the moment he found out the truth till the moment right now, he hadn’t really clearly thought it all through.

Returning back home or playing tricks, every time he seemed to have been pushed by a certain unknown force to do those things.

He was only following his heart and had given up on resisting it.

A long while later, after downing a glass of vodka, Xu Huaisong said something he would never have said while he was sober: “Liu Mao, this kind of feeling is pretty lousy.”

He wouldn’t have been bothered if she never had any feelings for him. What bothered him was that she had.

It didn’t bother him that he had a one-sided crush on her. He had long gotten over it after so many years. What troubled him was that after all those years, suddenly when he looked back, someone told him-- --You two could be together.

However, Ruan Yu gave the male lead in her novel the name “He Shiqian”,[2] which meant celebrating circumstances change with the passage of time. She could already write about it as if it was something that no longer had anything to do with her.

[1]: a popular tv drama aired in 2001 in China that was based on a novel by a famous Taiwanese romance author. The drama was a collaboration between China and Taiwan.

[2]: 贺时迁 (Hè Shíqiān). “He,” the family name, means “congratulate/celebrate”. “Shi” means “time” and “qian” means “change/move/shift.” So the name sort of roughly means “celebrate the changing times” or something to that effect.

You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 179 Part 3

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 179 Part 3

Ming god sighed and patted Tong Yao’s shoulder: “Think about how you’re going to play the next round. This round our mid endure the pressure well, you have to learn from Lu Yue how to take the pressure well. Then you have to figure out how to look for a chance to fight back while enduring the pressure-- --Damn, just don’t be like Lu Yue who just stands there like a vegetable, as if there’s no one at the ZGDX side…… We can’t always let OP lead us by the nose.”

Tong Yao nodded.

She fixed her eyes on the mid lane, on every detail on Lu Yue’s and Jin Yuguang’s movements. She was afraid that she’d miss something-- --

She was quite nervous.

She was even more hard working than if she was playing the match on stage. When she was on stage, all she focused on was Jin Yuguang, but while watching the match off stage, she could see more things-- --

Lu Yue took the pressure and didn’t die but he was totally trapped in the mid lane. As a mid with some support power, he had been constantly using his ultimate, after level 6, running away. He didn’t have a single chance to use Karma’s high mobility to support his teammates.

In comparison, Jin Yuguang could always find new opportunities; he’ll find chances, when Corki has missile ammo, to go top or bot to get kills or help his teammates grow the team’s advantage……

Because she was watching the match as an onlooker, she could clearly see how the proactiveness or passiveness of the mid player could affect the whole game……

……

The second round lasted for almost 50 minutes. When ZGDX’s nexus exploded, the break room was momentarily silent-- --Now the score was 2 : 0; ZGDX had been pushed to the edge of the cliff.

Ming god sighed: “S series’ quarter-finals are always different from skirmishes or even group matches. I don’t even know at this moment whether using this sort of on the spot teaching method would even work for you guys or not……”

Tong Yao lowered her head and pulled some stray hair behind her ears. She thought about it but only said: “En.” The cell phone in her hand was on a stream site. The bullet comments were saying things like “3 : 0” “GGGGGGGG” “Congrats to ZGDX for qualifying for the quarter-finals”, filling the cell phone screen, covering the faces of the players……

Tong Yao couldn’t even see the expressions on her teammates' faces.

After a while, footsteps could be heard outside the break room-- --

The one who came in first was Lu Yue with tightly knit eyebrows. When he walked in and looked up to see Tong Yao’s face, his expression froze. Tong Yao couldn’t tell whether it was out of dejection or embarrassment.

Before Lu Yue came into the room, Tong Yao was also debating how she should face her depressed teammates. She figured it could be an awkward moment or she could be depressed with them or she should keep encouraging them not to give up…… But what happened was that when she met Lu Yue’s eyes, she found her flustered heart suddenly settle down-- --

The rest of the team came in after Lu Yue. Little Fatty mumbled while pounding his waist: “Shit, OP didn’t play this way against CK at the group matches.”

Old Cat and Old K were discussing the failure of their first attempt to tower dive which was due to bad ward placement.

Lu Sicheng was the last one to come in. He walked in the room and took a look at Tong Yao, then walked straight over to Tong Yao’s side……

He looked down and figured that since Tong Yao was easily discouraged after defeats, he wanted to say something to calm her down. But before he could say a single word of comfort, he saw the person sitting on the chair suddenly gave me a big smile.

Lu Sicheng was surprised.

Tong Yao took his hand while he was still trying to understand what had happened and rubbed his somewhat cold finger tips.

“It’s alright. We can win the next round.”

It wasn’t simply some word of comfort-- --

With the setbacks she and Lu Yue had experienced, she felt that she probably knew how to go against OP now.

You're My Belated Happiness - Chapter 17 Part 1

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re My Belated Happiness
Chapter 17 Part 1

Ruan Yu didn’t know what to say.

She thought to herself: sure enough, it was easy to get into trouble when face to face.

She then hurriedly said: “I’ve done some research! There’s an article about you online.”

It was a good excuse. But she had pushed herself into another difficult position.

Xu Huaisong asked with a faint smile: “Researching me, what for?”

Ruan Yu suddenly felt the plate full of lard rice cakes become burning hot in her hand.

She drily blinked her eyes a couple of times: “It’s…… just trying to get a basic understanding of my lawyer. I also knew that Mr. Liu’s a Hang City native.” She handed over the white plate afterwards with a pair of silver chopsticks: “Eat while it’s still hot.”

It was an abrupt change of topic. Xu Huaisong cast his eyes down as he received the plate and went back to the couch.

Ruan Yu hesitantly touched her nose and sat down across from him.

He had good table manners and slowly chewed the rice cake slowly. His expression remained the same. It was hard to tell whether he thought the cake tasted good or not.

Ruan Yu silently wondered whether the cake suited his taste. The next moment, Xu Huaisong swallowed and looked up to ask: “You want some?”

Was it because she looked too eager? She hurriedly waved her hand and looked back. Then she helplessly watched Xu Huaisong eat all dozen or so rice cakes.

Though he ate gently, his appetite didn’t appear to be gentle at all.

Ruan Yu swallowed and put the empty plate back in the kitchen. When she came back, she saw Xu Huaisong was going through the documents.

Seeing her, he looked up to say: “I haven’t read it.”

“You……” She paused: “Were you very busy these past few days?”

“En. I didn’t turn on WeChat.”

So it wasn’t that he purposely didn’t reply to her like she had thought. She didn’t think Xu Huaisong would be this petty.

Ruan Yu was more relaxed by now: “Actually, there’s no rush for the case. Public outrage has subsided a lot now and the court date is still far away. There’s no use finishing the counter comparison columns now. You can go back to rest first.”

Xu Huaisong didn’t say anything and continued to go through the documents.

Seeing no response from him, Ruan Yu didn’t say anything more. Half an hour later, he closed the documents.

Xu Huaisong couldn’t keep his eyes open anymore.

He understood the principle of sustainable development. There would be ample time in days to come and he shouldn’t drain the pond to catch all the fish in one sitting.

He closed his eyes: “Please call Liu Mao for me to come pick me up. I’m going to nap for a while.”

Ruan Yu said ok and sent a message to Liu Mao. Then she was going to ask Xu Huaisong whether he wanted to lie down on the long couch next to them but when 1she looked up, she found him soundly asleep again.

She walked over and squatted down next to him, then called to him in a tiny voice: “Mr. Xu?”

There was no response.

Being a lawyer was truly a high energy-consuming profession.

Nevermind trying to move him to the long couch, she would just let him lean back on this couch then. She went to the bedroom to fetch a newly washed thin blanket to put on him. She then sat back down on the sofa across and also closed her eyes to rest. When she opened her eyes again, Xu Huaisong was gone.

Oops, she had also fallen asleep.

Being a writer is also a high energy-consuming profession.

She was about to pick up her phone to see whether Xu Huaisong had sent any messages. But when she looked up, she saw a note placed on the coffee table.

There were two dancing characters on the note-- --I’m off.

Ruan Yu looked down at the thin blanket on her and began to somewhat space out.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 179 Part 2

Tong Yao vaguely felt that there was something off about Jin Yuguang’s choice of champion. She lowered her head and started to flip through the data in hand. Half way through, she suddenly stopped, pushed the notebook down, and frowned. She suddenly remembered what the commentator had said when she reviewed the finals of the summer competition: [Wait till the world competition, you’ll face even more different types of professional players. As far as I know, just within the Korea and Europe regions there are more than two high power players who are proficient in Smiling’s and Ai Jia’s play style. Who would you do, ZGDX, then? Have Lu play? Or Smiling……]

Tong Yao: “......”

She vaguely guessed where her uneasiness was coming from. She turned on her cell phone to check Tieba and sure enough there were various comments-- --

[666666666 Jin Yuguang takes Corki.]

[Didn’t he play defensively and make vicious counterstrikes so happily, why is he taking Corki now?]

[Congrats to ZGDX, using the mid rotation to beckon the second version of Jin Yuguang: the aggressive Jin Yuguang.]

[Jin Yuguang is now in killing mode. It’s over.]

[ZGDX’s going to have a hard time again this round…… If they really want to win, they can’t just fixate on the mid lane. If I may say so, the rotation doesn’t mean much. Jin Yuguang can handle any type of player. ZGDX is better off letting Smiling, who’s getting used to him, continue to play this round.]

“......”

That’s right, Jin Yuguang was indeed an all-around player who could be aggressive or defensive and show off or lay low.

Tong Yao got off Tieba.

The ban & pick phase had ended by then. Both teams entered the match-- --

The comment on Tieba “Jin Yuguang is now in killing mode” made Tong Yao feel quite uneasy. When the camera cut to Lu Yue, she silently drew numerous crosses in her mind, wishing Lu Yue a peaceful match…… Ming god pushed the door open and walked into the break room just as the match started and the minions began to arrive in their lanes. The screen happened to show Lu Yue being attacked by a level one Jin Yuguang a few times and Lu Yue drank a health potion and backed away-- --

Ming god: “Damn, what happened. The match just began and this retard only has half of his health left!”

Tong Yao: “......Jin Yuguang the second version is truly ferocious.”

Ming god sat down next to Tong Yao. Tong Yao wrote down some data in the notebook as she listened to the commentators. When she looked up again, it was four minutes into the game. Lu Yue, by this time, was finally in a more stable position but was harassed by Corki’s attack, Q, attack from time to time as he was farming. When Lu Yue wanted to counterattack, Corki reacted swiftly by using his W to run away. Lu Yue couldn’t land a counter strike and the entire situation was rather depressing-- --

Fortunately, his creep score wasn’t too far behind Corki’s.

Tong Yao: “If I were there, there would probably be 7 or 8 kills already and all at mid lane. Either he’d be dead or I’d be dead.”

Ming god: “If he’s facing you, he would never play this way-- --After being a completely defensive player, now he’s playing aggressively, constantly harassing Lu Yue when he’s farming…… Jin Yuguang isn’t even in his killing mode yet, otherwise he would have called their jungler already.”

This round, OP’s jungler was hanging around the top lane.

First blood happened in the top lane. Old Cat and Old K initiated an attack on OP’s jungler and were planning to tower dive but they were attacked instead. Old Cat quickly ran away while Old K was left behind, chased by OP’s top and jungler duo and eventually dying under their inner turret……

You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 179 Part 1

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 179 Part 1

Tong Yao still remembered how she felt the last time she was sitting on the substitute seat-- --Watching her teammates on the stage while enduring a state of miserable indignation, while also praying for the team. On the one hand, she was worried that Lu Yue would perform too well and replace her; on the other hand, she worried that Lu Yue wasn’t going to play well enough and cause the team to lose the match……

At the time she had a lot of negative thoughts, though some positive ones as well. Nevertheless, she was totally detached from the game that was being played at the time.

She had thought that she would never get used to sitting in the substitute seat in her life. But now a miracle happened. She and Ming god sat shoulder to shoulder in the break room backstage, looking up at the screen that showed the match, now about to begin. There was a notebook on her lap and she was tense-- --

The feeling she had now was quite different from before.

She felt that there were six players on stage playing the game. She wasn’t able to detach herself from the game like before. She nervously fixed her eyes on the screen as the match was about to begin the ban & pick phase. All she could think of was: What will Jin Yuguang take this round? How is he going to play it? Will he still maintain his intricate play style like the last round? His condition today is really good……

She didn’t think too much about Lu Yue, surprisingly.

In addition, Ming god was nagging next to her ear: “I was so anxious while watching the last round. You can’t be that aggressive fighting against Jin Yuguang. Didn’t I prepare the data on him and told you so earlier. He has a solid defense and makes strong counterattacks. He especially can target a player like you…… Before your first death, I don’t believe your captain didn't tell you to pull back the minion lane.”

Tong Yao: “He did, he did.”

Ming god: “Then why didn’t you pull back? !”

Tong Yao: “I couldn’t help it, couldn’t help it.”

Tong Yao thought about it: “Hrm, that’s Jin Yuguang-- --I can’t think of anything else once I see him, my brain goes blank. I forgot that I said I would play safe and wouldn’t get too excited. The aggressive blood in my body was boiling and I could only think: Kill him! I’ll be the world’s first mid if I kill him! Mid king of the world!”

Ming god: “......”

Tong Yao: “It’s like Gollum who can only think of the ring. I’ve also fallen into the spell of ‘wanting to kill Jin Yuguang’-- --But since I’ve calmed down, I have a profound recognition of my mistakes and foolishness. I was wrong.”

Ming god: “......”

Ming god: “Shit, were you bewitched or cursed? Nevermind, I’ll tentatively categorize this as regret for not meeting each other earlier which is unique to world competitions among good players-- --Actually you aren’t the only one. Many players also get in over their heads when they go against Jin Yuguang. All they think about is getting into a fight with him then it’ll give OP a chance to get the upper hand…… This is probably the aura buff that comes with Jin Yuguang himself?”

Tong Yao touched her chin: “Not everyone’s like that. There’s someone who’s quite capable of keeping his cool.”

Ming god was surprised: “Who?”

Tong Yao lifted her chin at the screen in front of them: “Our player Lu Yue.”

Ming god looked up and happened to see the camera cut to Lu Yue. He had just sat down in his seat and was playing with his fingernails quite earnestly like a retard…… Ming god sighed and patted Tong Yao’s shoulder before he stood up. He walked out of the break room in a hurry to go onstage to take care of the ban & pick phase.

A few minutes later, OP noticed that ZGDX had changed their mid player. OP knew that Lu Yue’s champion pool paled in comparison to Tong Yao’s and they targeted mid champions during the ban. Lu Yue’s Azir, Twisted Fate, and Vladimir which were quite strong in the current patch all got banned. Lu Yue, with his champion pool almost depleted, had no choice but to choose the mid champion that leaned a bit heavily on support power, Karma, after he turned to talk to other teammates.

Tong Yao guessed that he probably said: If I knew this would happen, I shouldn’t have shown off my Twisted Fate during the league competition back home.

Jin Yuguang, unexpectedly, took Corki as his champion.

You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 178 Part 3

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 178 Part 3

The tug of war between OP and ZGDX lasted till the late game. ZGDX was in the lead with 3 more kills and a small economic lead of 2000 gold. OP, which had a mountain drake and a cloud drake under their belt, however they knew how to make full use of their advantage. They came up with a bright idea and changed lanes quickly so they could steal Baron to the surprise of ZGDX!

When Lu Sicheng sensed the change and asked Little Fatty to go check on Baron, it was already too late. OP took advantage of the brief moment of neglect from ZGDX and started their counterattack. With Baron buff, OP was able to destroy the second line of turrets one after another on top, mid, and bot lanes. They were able to catch up in gold and even surpassed ZGDX……

The game had now reached the 40th minute mark-- --

OP, after upgrading their items, initiated a team fight. ZGDX defended their base with their backs against their nexus. Unfortunately, OP’s Kindred, who had made most of the team’s kills, had become very powerful at this point. Kindred coordinated with Tahm to kill Old Cat. Tong Yao had a sliver of health left and tried to flash away, but Zilean cast a bomb on her. Tong Yao died and the explosion also damaged Lu Sicheng who was nearby!

The mid part of ZGDX’s base was destroyed.

The inner and inhibitor turret at ZGDX’s bot were also taken down. OP retreated right afterwards.

ZGDX didn’t even have a chance to counterattack-- --

At the 43rd minute, all five OP players advanced as a group once again and they would destroy something of ZGDX’s with each attack-- --

At the 47th minute, ZGDX had only a bare base left. In the final team fight, the abilities of OP’s champions perfectly complemented each other and the team was able to give their carry a watertight protection. In the end, OP won the first round of the match!

……

The red light signaling defeat was shone on ZGDX players. Tong Yao stood up, took off her headphones, and her head was filled with the ticking sound of Zilean’s bomb which almost drove her crazy……

Tong Yao rubbed between her eyebrows and was about to tell her teammates that for the next ban phase, she didn’t want to see the Tahm + Zilean + Kindred life saving line-up ever again…… But right at this moment, Ming god announced that Lu Yue would replace Tong Yao as the mid for the next round.

Tong Yao was stunned a little, but soon understood the decision. ZGDX’s mid rotation was specifically designed for the S series world competition. As long as the switch could help the team move ahead toward their ultimate goal, it wouldn’t matter who was playing!

“I can take a rest and may be able to find the breaking point after watching Jin Yuguang play for the next round.”

Tong Yao said with a smile to reassure her teammates. She tried to show them that she wasn’t as resistant as before for the rotation and walked over to high five with Lu Yue to signal the exchange. She even offered a blessing: “Don’t get killed.”

Lu Yue raised his eyebrows and laughed in high spirits: “You think I’m you?”

Tong Yao stood up on her tippy toes to pat his shoulder then took a deep breath to sit down on the chair. She rubbed her somewhat stiffened fingers and when she turned her head, she saw Lu Sicheng was looking at her with a tilted head sitting not too far from her-- --It looked like he wasn’t sure whether Tong Yao really didn’t mind the rotation or was just pretending.

Tong Yao knew what he was thinking about and didn’t want him to carry the uneasiness to the next round. She stood up to walk over to him. She held his face and gave him a loud smack on his forehead. Then she said with a smile: “You carry the next round. Don’t let your brother shine too much so I won’t be pushed into the substitute seat forever.”

Lu Sicheng paused for a moment but soon said “en” as if he had relaxed.

He held on to Tong Yao’s wrist as she was about to leave to pull her back and let her sit on his lap: “No team will preserve their strength anymore in the quarter-finals. Carefully observe Jin Yuguang’s play style. You might have only one round to break through this hurdle.”

Tong Yao squinted her eyes and smiled with a nod, her eyes were like a crescent moon.

She told him: Captain, rest assured, how could I leave you by yourself on the battlefield.

You're My Belated Happiness - Chapter 16 Part 4

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re My Belated Happiness
Chapter 16 Part 4

Ruan Yu led Xu Huaisong into the kitchen and opened her refrigerator for him to see: “With the ingredients inside, I could make a sandwich or pasta.”

She deliberately pointed at some western food choices but Xu Huaisong’s eyes landed somewhere else: “This one.” He was pointing at a block of rice cake.

So he hadn’t been totally westernized.

Ruan Yu asked: “How do you want it cooked?”

“Fried.”

Ruan Yu nodded and bent over to take the rice cake out from the refrigerator: “Then you can go sit in the living room.”

Xu Huaisong walked out of the kitchen.

Ruan Yu put on her apron and started to get busy. However, she hesitated for a moment when she was about to cut the rice cake.

This was shui-mo rice cake[1] which wasn’t suitable for frying. But she suddenly understood why Xu Huaisong wanted to eat fried rice cake.

It was because there’s a special local rice cake from Su City, lard rice cake, and was usually fried.

He was probably homesick.

Ruan Yu happened to have some lard rice cake that her mother had sent over before.

She figured that Xu Huaisong was so tired that he could fall asleep on the couch, shouldn’t she treat him a bit better? As she was thinking, she replaced the shui-mo rice cake with the lard rice cake.

Searching her memory, Ruan Yu followed the recipe her mother had taught her. She made the batter, beat the egg, heated the oil in a wok, coated the sliced rice cake with the batter, and then pan fried it on low heat.

Pieces of the rice cake turned golden brown, emitting a fragrance.

Even though she already had lunch, she began to feel hungry.

As she was putting the fried rice cake onto the plate, she wanted to sneak one for herself but was afraid Xu Huaisong might see her. She looked back into the living room and found Xu Huaisong had his back facing the kitchen. He was doing something there while kneeling on one knee, with his shirt sleeves folding up.

Ruan Yu was wondering when he happened to stand up and turn around. He was holding a dustpan full of pieces of shattered porcelain.

Ruan Yu hurriedly walked over: “I can do that.”

Xu Huaisong put the dustpan to the side and briefly said: “Rag, tape.”

Ruan Yu went to fetch these two items. As she was about to squat down to clean, Xu Huaison pulled the rag out of her hand.

He mopped the floor without uttering a sound. After cleaning the floor, he put down the rag and opened his palm towards Ruan Yu.

Ruan Yu put the tape in his palm and bent over to say: “The material of the cup shouldn’t have any tiny shards.”

Xu Huaisong ignored her, instead he started to tape together the broken pieces one by one. He was extremely precise, as if he was doing a surgical operation.

Ruan Yu was a little surprised.

Though he was just making up for his own mistakes, Ruan Yu still felt moved by his gesture.

So when she brought out the rice cake later on and saw the shocked expression on Xu Huaisong’s face, she said something she wouldn’t have said under normal circumstances: “I’ve replaced it with lard rice cake. You probably haven’t eaten it for many years.”

Then, she was faced with a lethal piece of interrogation.

Xu Huaisong raised his eyebrows: “How do you know that I’m from Su City?”

You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 178 Part 2

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 178 Part 2

Though OP’s bot had made Lu Sicheng use his two summoner abilities at level one, after the cooldown period for Lu Sicheng’s summoner abilities the advantage OP’s bot had enjoyed gradually diminished. OP initiated a successful lane change. Both teams’ top and bot lanes switched…… Old Cat had no choice but to come back to bot. At the moment when he was about to stroll into the lane, he was rooted by Maokai. Working with Kindred who had just come to the triangle bush at bot after harassing Tong Yao, Maokai and Kindred tried to tower dive-- --

“Where’s our jungler! Is our jungler dead!”

Old Cat kept signaling his team with his mouth-- --Where was the signaling function of the game? It seemed to be nonexistent.

Fortunately, Old Cat’s champion was Rumble. He fought against the two and dealt enough damage to them. He pulled up under the turret and killed Maokai the moment before Kindred became level 6! Kindred used its ultimate to barely escape from the attack from the turret and got a safe distance away. Yet in the end, he wasn’t able to cheat death. When he had only a sliver of health left, he ran into ZGDX’s jungler Old K who had finally rushed over to bot. Old K easily killed Kindred!

“Nice.”

“We also have a jungler.”

“A frivolous jungler who develops by stepping on his teammates’ bodies to collect kills.”

“It’s alright. Now the kills are 2 : 2. We’re out of danger now. Credit goes to Old Cat. Tong Yao takes the blame and should bring warm water for Old Cat to wash his feet when we get back after the game.”

The other side’s top and jungler had underestimated Old Cat’s damage and made the rash decision to tower dive, ZGDX therefore could get two kills and get even with OP at this point. In the ZGDX channel, the team began to speak in optimistic tones-- --

“It’s less than 8 minutes into the game and you guys have already assigned the blame.” Tong Yao didn’t look up: “Don’t talk to me now. I’m having a terrifying feeling that Jin Yuguang will kill me at any minute-- --It’s all Lu Sicheng’s fault, flattering Jin Yuguang in front of me every day. To hell with it, all you know is how to boast about the enemy!”

Lu Sicheng sneered: “Blaming me again.”

Tong Yao: “I shouldn’t blame you?”

Lu Sicheng: “Alright, blame me, blame me.”

During their exchange, ZGDX started their first wave of offensives-- --Little Fatty’s Alistar and Lu Sicheng’s Sivir changed lanes again and returned to bot, working together with their jungler, Old Cat, to attack Maokai. Yet OP seemed to have guessed their intentions. Their Kindred was hiding in the bush behind the turret!

Lu Sicheng gave out a brief order “team fight.”

Tong Yao gave up farming the minions immediately and turned to go to bot. Jin Yuguang and Old Cat teleported at the same time and OP’s bot duo also arrived near the dragon arena. OP pulled back to bring the battleground towards bot lane-- --

The ten players from both sides converged at bot!

Commentator D: [Team fight! ! ! From the time ZGDX had conceived of attacking till OP came up with a response and the teams began to gather, all of that took less than 4 seconds to happen!]

Commentator F: [OP was pulling back from the fight so they could group up with both of their carries, but it was a little too late. Zilean at the front had already lost health from being attacked by Chessman, he could only cast his ultimate on himself! Rumble also used his ultimate. This terrain! 5 fire roasted players! A perfect ultimate! OP has been caught out of position!]

Commentator D: [But Kindred also used its ultimate to save the five players of his team from the torture of Rumble’s ultimate! Tahm swallowed their AD and used a shield to withdraw. With Kindred and Zilean in their team, OP players were always able to get away with a sliver of health left! This line-up! Their ability to survive is impressive!]

Commentator F: [At this point, both sides have exchanged ten thousand abilities already but no one has died! Though ZGDX had initiated a perfect team fight, OP was able to successfully retreat without losing a player!]

Commentator D: [What coordination! The speed at which they support each other! It’s enough for other teams to have problems catching up! Brothers, take a good look and learn from it!]

When highly skilled players fight against each other, victory or defeat could be decided at a whim-- --

You're My Belated Happiness - Chapter 16 Part 3

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re My Belated Happiness
Chapter 16 Part 3

Ruan Yu’s computer suddenly made a “bo” sound. She had received a WeChat message. Ruan Yu hurriedly clicked the mute button. She looked up and saw that Xu Huaisong didn’t seem to have heard it, then clicked open the chat box.

Yao Jie: [Xiao Wen, is the counter comparison chart ready?]

Yao Jie was Ruan Yu’s good friend in the writers circle who had helped her create the counter comparison columns when the plagiarism incident first started. Later on she had stopped doing it because Xu Huaisong had taken the job in helping Ruan Yu compile it.

Ruan Yu tried to type as quietly as possible and slowly typed the message: [It has a little bit more to go. Thanks, Yao Jie, for your concern.]

Yao Jie: [It’s not done after so many days? You better watch out, are you sure that lawyer isn’t delaying it on purpose?]

Yuan Yu looked up at the stationary Xu Huaisong and replied immediately: [He won’t.]

Yao Jie: [If they’re not delaying on purpose, then it could be that he isn’t professional enough. Make sure you’ve found the right person.]

The person Yao Jie referred to was right in front of Ruan Yu less than two meters away. Ruan Yu was afraid that Xu Huaisong might see the exchange and hurriedly replied: [He’s quite professional, just very busy. Rest assured, Yao Jie.]

After sending out the last message, Ruan Yu noticed that the person across from her moved a bit, changing his posture with his arms folded.

Ruan Yu stood up and tiptoed over to the air conditioner to adjust the angle of the air flow to make sure the cold air wouldn’t blow directly at Xu Huaisong. When she turned around, she heard the ring tone of an incoming voice call.

It was for Xu Huaisong.

The ringing woke him up. The first second he opened his eyes, he glanced at Ruan Yu who was standing right next to the air conditioner. Then he picked up his cell phone to answer it: “En.”

“I fell asleep.”

“Not eating yet”

“En.”

He hung up the phone right after the four short answers. Ruan Yu put together the pieces of information from his answers and walked over to ask: “You haven’t eaten yet?”

Xu Huaisong tidied up his wrinkled shirt and sat up straighter to nod his head.

“Then, do you want to go eat something first?”

“It’s too hot.” Xu Huaisong took a look at the scorching sun outside the window and shook his head.

“Do you eat take-out?”

Take-out might be unsanitary, Ruan Yu figured Xu Huaisong might not want to eat it.

As she expected, he shook his head again.

Ruan Yu felt that since she knew by now that he hadn’t had anything to eat, would it be inhumane if she still continued to discuss the case with him?

Ruan Yu thought about it then pointed at the kitchen: “I have some food at home. Do you want to go see if there’s anything that’ll do?”

This time Xu Huaisong nodded. But he probably hadn’t fully recovered from his slumber, when he stood up he bumped into a stack of papers on the coffee table.

The stack of papers skidded over and hit the coffee cup. The cup fell onto the floor and broke into several pieces.

Coffee splashed all over the floor.

Ruan Yu was stunned.

Xu Huaisong pinched the bridge of his nose.

He had been rushed around to take care of the cases he had in hand and only slept for ten hours in three days. He was really a little dizzy.

Ruan Yu immediately waved her hands: “It’s alright. I’ll clean it up later.”

You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 178 Part 1

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 178 Part 1

It was three minutes into the match and Tong Yao had been constantly poking[1] Jin Yuguang because she wanted to kill him-- --In the beginning, her aggressive tactic worked, causing Jin Yuguang to miss several minions from her constant harassment. Even the commentators were crying out “crazy”......

On the ZGDX chat channel, Lu Sicheng gave a command in a rather calm voice: “Little Fatty, go back and pull down the minion lane, don’t push it, really don’t push it. If you push the minion lane over, their jungler will come-- --”

Old Cat: “Their jungler is hiding in my bush at top. This time it’s the feline’s sixth sense. And, Old K, you come over, I’m afraid.”

Lu Sicheng calmly changed his command: “Stop, Little Fatty……………………. If you push the minion lane over, their top would teleport down here.”

Old Cat immediately said: “Push it, hurry. If their top’s out of here, I can happily and freely play by myself.”

Little Fatty, fed up with the nagging, went directly into the bush: “I’m going back. You two take your time and keep at it.”

Old Cat, Lu Sicheng: “......”

There was no Little Fatty around to push around. Lu Sicheng changed his target to mid: “Someone go to mid and drag that mad dog back. Pushing the minion lane so deep, do you have a deathwish? It’s impossible for OP to let you harass Jin Yuguang like this without interfering…… Your blue is almost empty and you still-- --”

Before he could finish what he wanted to say, he saw the other side’s jungler jump out from the river on the top lane, exactly like that “feline’s sixth sense” had predicted. Tong Yao reacted quickly, the moment Kindred’s head popped out of the bush, she used flash to back away-- --But Jin Yuguang also reacted quickly. He followed after with a flash and nailed Tong Yao with a time bomb, stunning her. By the time the stun ended, Tong Yao’s health was almost gone!

Tong Yao hid under the turret. A wave of OP minions began advancing and Jin Yuguang followed the minions under the turret. He didn’t do anything until he was within striking distance and then used a combo of abilities to kill the weak Tong Yao-- --

First blood!

Tong Yao threw her mouse, murmuring “shoot”. She saw the image of Ai Jia in Jin Yuguang-- --A player who was good at defense and counterattacks.

Before the summer competition, Tong Yao was incapable of countering this type of player. During the summer competition, she had learned how to deal with it through tears and sweat. She learned to brace herself to play safe while going against this type of player……

After dying, Tong Yao lost her creep score lead as Jin Yuguang caught back up. The small advantage she enjoyed at mid earlier with her aggressiveness had evaporated…… Or, it could be that her advantage didn’t exist to begin with. It was all Jin Yuguang’s strategy!

“I’ve said that the other side wouldn’t let you pester a strong carry like Jin Yuguang without interfering.” The lazy voice of Lu Sicheng came over the headphones: “You won’t listen to me. See, now you’re dead.”

-- --The tone of his voice was like he was teaching his child: I told you the road isn’t flat and you had to go jump there. See, now you fell down.

The relaxed tone of Lu Sicheng’s voice made Tong Yao calm down. She steadied her nerve and touched her chin: “I won’t push it, won’t push it. I’ll be good, and develop more-- --”

Before she could finish, the other side’s jungler came to challenge her again!

With a quick reaction and some health, Tong Yao used the ball to push him away and rooted him as she pulled back. She barely survived-- --Though she had missed some minions, she was still alive. Fortunately, Zilean’s and Kindred’s ultimates weren’t too damaging, otherwise she would have died again!

“This damn jungler! Why is he targeting me all the time!”

“You’ve just used flash. Who else would he target if not you. OP has a lot of different tactics but their core strategy is: mid and jungler work as a team.” Lu Sicheng calmly said: “Just keep laying low, don’t be indignant.”

[1]: Poking is when players will use long ranged abilities or attacks to hit enemy champions, but not commit to a full fight. This is used to harass or weaken an enemy so that they’ll be easier to kill (or will retreat from being at low health).

You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 177 Part 3

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 177 Part 3

[AD group]

OP, Bunny (wringing his hands, nervously): Lu Sicheng, ah, is a senpai. He has a lot of fans in Korea as well because he’s handsome and a strong player. I truly can’t afford to offend him! But on the other hand, if Lu Sicheng didn’t go back to LPL at the time, he probably would have several sets of skins of his own. (*Riot Games will award each of the S series championship teams a set of specially designed skins especially for them)...... He shouldn’t have gone back. It’s the same this time, he’ll be defeated again, right? I really feel sorry for him.

ZGDX, Chessman: Sorry for what? Talk about it when you beat us……  He truly is living in dreams.

……

Everyone from ZGDX: “......”

Lu Sicheng: “I wasn’t going to say the last few words originally.”

Everyone from ZGDX: “......”

Lu Sicheng: “I didn’t think there would be a time when I couldn’t stop myself from saying it. I’m still too young after all.”

The video ended as Lu Sicheng sighed. The audience was in a frenzy, making all sorts of exclamations “hahahahahahahahaha” “whoa”. They all felt that, though they didn’t know how today’s match would go or what the result of the match would be, it was already worth the ticket price to watch the trash talking segment!

The war between LPL and LCK…… was surely a never-ending topic.

The match officially entered the ban and pick phase.

Ming god came onto the stage with his notes-- --Since the champion pools of the players on both sides were quite deep, even if one team could ban ten champions, it still wouldn’t cause any problem to the opposing team. Therefore, both teams were quite relaxed in regards to banning champions……

In the first round of the match, OP was on the blue side and ZGDX the red side-- --

OP banned: Nidalee, Leblanc, Ryze.

ZGDX banned: Gnar, Fiora, Azir.

The ban phase ended. Old K and Tong Yao received the respect they deserved when the two champions they were best at got banned. Ryze got banned because he was too strong in the current patch of the game. It looked like Jin Yuguang himself wasn’t interested in playing Ryze and so they banned him……

The pick phase followed-- --

OP picked: Maokai, Kindred, Zilean, Lucian, Tahm.

ZGDX picked: Rumble, Rek’Sai, Syndra, Sivir, Alistar.

Zilean and Tahm were preferred champions of the LCK teams. Zilean’s ultimate could revive teammates and Tahm could swallow teammates to save them. With these two champions in the line up, the team’s carry could usually survive till the end and in team fights, the team could usually keep fighting for longer…… The LPL teams on the other hand liked swift attacks and seldom used this tactic. Therefore, they didn’t get much practice countering this tactic-- --

However, it didn’t mean that this tactic couldn’t be cracked.

Old Cat’s choice of Rumble could use his ultimate to divide the battlefield. The enemy couldn’t even cross over and all these tactics would just be armchair strategies.

The commentators were also quite impressed with the Rumble pick…… Old Cat however gave a wry smile: “They all say that I’m the blue collar top, I truly haven’t been taken seriously. I’ve used Rumble from our league competitions all the way to the world competition and carried you guys numerous times, yet no one wants to ban my Rumble but instead banned Twisted Fate and Leblanc……”

Tong Yao: “It’s a good thing. You can play this champion now with your eyes closed.”

The match began and a dramatic scene happened right at the beginning of the match.

When everyone bought their items and left their base to go into their respective lanes, Little Fatty was a step behind Lu Sicheng-- --As they walked near the bush at bot lane, Lu Sicheng suddenly stopped, probably out of his sixth sense or because he noticed some unusual movement in the Summoner's Rift, as if he sensed something was wrong. Before anyone realized what was going on, Lu Sicheng abruptly cast his Q ability at the bush-- --

Little Fatty: “Cheng Ge, what’s that for……”

Before he finished, four enemies jumped out of the bush and scared the hell out of Little Fatty that he almost threw away his mouse-- --He watched the other side’s Tahm first cast exhaust on Lu Sicheng then opened his big mouth to swallow up him. Little Fatty’s Alistar at level one couldn’t do much to help. When Tahm spat Lu Sicheng out, Lu Sicheng and Little Fatty used flash plus heal to run away with only silver health left!

Little Fatty patted his chest: “That scared me to death, scared me to death…… Shit, not even people at Bronze rank would play like this! These sneaky guys!”

Lu Sicheng went back to base immediately since the minion hadn’t spawned from the bases yet. He calmly said: “If I had walked even half a step further, I wouldn’t have come back.”

Tong Yao: “That’s really something, a man’s sixth sense.”

Lu Sicheng: “A man’s sixth sense tells me that though they had me use both abilities, they wouldn’t come to bot again as you would expect. You guys are on your own.”

Tong Yao, Old Cat: “......”

The first round of the match between ZGDX and OP thus officially began with a surprise.

You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 177 Part 2

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 177 Part 2

As Little Fatty and Tong Yao were talking, the video continued with more trash talking from both teams. Unlike the trash talking segments back home where most of the teams were more reserved, this time it was bold and unrestrained. LPL and LCK were always in heated competitions to begin with, so this segment could be more appropriately described as the teams “openly challenging each other”-- --

[SUP group]

ZGDX, Pang: What to say? Ah…… it’s so sudden. I’m a little embarrassed. Anyway, people in the world only need to remember one telecommunication team and it’s name is ZGDX.

OP, Doge: Hahahahahahahaha, why do I feel a little embarrassed. Pang and I are all a bit chubby and chubby people are all kinder folks. Therefore, I’ll save face for him and get our AD to kill him a couple less times.

……

Tong Yao: “How do you come up with such showy lines in such a short time?”

Little Fatty: “.....................................What do you mean short time. On our flight to the US, I was already thinking about what I would say if we happen to meet OP in the finals. I didn’t expect that I would use it in the quarter-finals already.”

Everyone: “......”

[JUG group]

OP, Sky: I’ve always been called the weakest point of the team back home…… Maybe I really am. Perhaps it’s because of a lack of confidence? But in front of LPL players, I'm always quite confident. LCK has always been the best region. I’m not afraid of the LPL's native players.

ZDGX, K (with smile): Did he really say that? There's an old saying in China: “newborn calves are not afraid of tigers”. Uh, I don’t know whether the Koreans have heard of it or not, I know some of you are learning Chinese…… Well, cattle are cattle and tigers are tigers. Cattle won’t cheat death just because they are unafraid.

……

The other four ZGDX players turned to look at their jungler in unison.

Tong Yao: “Whoa.”

Old Cat: “Korea has been working hard to de-sinicized in recent years…… Do you plan on stirring up an international dispute?”

Old K, with a stone face, blew at the nonexistent dust on the keyboard in front of him: “He was the one who said ‘LPL native players’ first. Who is he looking down at?”

[TOP group]

OP, GG (confusedly): I’m a top that’s good on the offense. I’ve heard that Cat is an all-round blue collar top. Doesn’t blue collar mean that he can’t carry the team, right?

ZGDX, Cat (coldly): Whether I can carry team or not will start by taking his (*pointing at GG) head off his neck. Let’s wait and see.

Old K: “Judging from the context, what you really want to say is his dog head off his neck.”

Old Cat: “China is a state of etiquette. We’re civilized and well bred.”

Lu Sicheng: “It’s very possible that esports hasn’t been able to be an official Olympics sport  because of the existence of indecent people like you guys.”

Tong Yao, Little Fatty: “Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!”

[MID group]

ZGDX, Smiling (laughing out loud): Hahahahahahahahahahaha, I’ve heard a lot about this player, Jin Yuguang. Because whenever our captain complains about my champion pool, he’ll without fail talk about Jin Yuguang. The first time I heard his name was when the captain complained that I can’t play Cassiopeia…… His existence to me is like the existence of the outstanding kid next door, you know what I mean? Jin Yuguang is a huge mountain in front of many good mid players. If I can kill him once, then that would get a lot of people to stop doubting me. En, so I have to kill him.

OP, Lulutia: Smiling? Very interesting. I’ve never thought that I would face off with a young lady on the international stage and I’m very much looking forward to it at the same time…… It’s a lot of people’s dream to kill me, I just hope that when I kill her, she won’t cry. That would put me in a difficult position.

…...Ah, certainly, for the victory of the team, I can’t show any mercy in any case.

……

Tong Yao: “I have a hunch that the dialogue between our mids is the most civilized. The one with the most esports sportsmanship.”

Lu Sicheng: “You guess right.”

Tong Yao: “......”

You're My Belated Happiness - Chapter 16 Part 2

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re My Belated Happiness
Chapter 16 Part 2

Before Ruan Yu went out the door to meet Xu Huaisong, she had rummaged through her clothes to get ready. If she remembered correctly, her clothing was strewn all over the couch in her living room now. And, there were all sorts of articles of clothing.

There’s no way she could let him in now.

The moment the door was unlocked, Ruan Yu turned around, with both of her hands tightly holding the door, to look up at Xu Huaisong and said: “Well…… could you wait here for a moment?”

He cast his eyes down to look at her and nodded.

Ruan Yu opened the door ajar and squeezed inside. Then she left the door unlatched and went into the living room to swiftly tidy up the place.

Xu Huaisong quietly stood outside the door, without looking around. Three minutes later, the door in front of him opened ajar once again and Ruan Yu’s head popped out: “......I’m ready.”

Ruan Yu asked Xu Huaisong to come in. Once he was inside the door, he glanced over the floor of the doorway, exactly what Li Shican had done before.

Ruan Yu had to explain once again that she didn’t have men’s slippers at home and asked him to come inside without changing shoes.

They went into the living room without exchanging any words. Ruan Yu felt even more nervous than having a movie star visiting her home. The “feeling of familiarity” which she had begun to have after video chatting with him was now completely gone. Everything was back to square one.

She felt like she was meeting someone she had met online for the first time.

Trying to ease the awkwardness between them, Ruan Yu randomly pointed at a desk in the living room and said: “I was at that desk when I was video chatting with you.”

She smiled awkwardly afterwards.

Xu Huaisong, however, didn’t look at the desk. His eyes instead glanced over the cream-colored sectionals at the back and landed on the section where Li Shican had been sitting before.

Then he avoided that section and chose to sit down on the other side.

Ruan Yu had totally forgotten where Li Shican had been sitting before and didn’t notice Xu Huaisong’s movement. She asked him whether he wanted some water.

“Coffee.”

“Will an instant one be ok?”

“En.”

Ruan Yu turned on the upright air-conditioner in the living room before going into the kitchen to boil water for the coffee. When she came back to the living room, she found Xu Huaisong had taken off his glasses and was leaning back on the sofa with his eyes closed. He looked rather drained.

She put down the coffee cup without making much of a sound and took a look at the time.

It was 1pm Beijing time and that would be 10pm San Francisco time. Xu Huaisong had just arrived after flying over a dozen hours and sitting in a car for a few hours.

Ruan Yu held her forehead.

Earlier she thought that she couldn’t let him make the trip in vain. But now she was thinking that she should have let him go back to the hotel to rest.

With that thought in mind, she kept quiet and carefully moved the laptop on the desk to the coffee table. Then she sat down on the sofa across from him and started to look at the files on her computer.

She would look up at him after reading for a while.

After repeating several times, she was sure that Xu Huaisong was sound asleep.

So, what should she do now?

Ruan Yu opened her mouth with the word “Xu” almost slipping out, but she swallowed it.

She wasn’t able to wake him up until the boiling hot coffee had completely cooled down.

You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 177 Part 1

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 177 Part 1

Lu Sicheng noticed that Tong Yao seemed a little uneasy and walked out of the room. As he walked towards Tong Yao, he saw Ah Tai, standing next to the window. Ah Tai put on a lazy smile when he saw Lu Sicheng and greeted him: “Ge.”

Then Ah Tai asked Lu Sicheng whether he was coming out for a smoke.

Lu Sicheng gave Tong Yao a glance and shook his head. He reached over to pull Tong Yao’s jacket and nonchalantly said: “You, smoke less.” Then he put his arm around Tong Yao and turned around to leave…… Tong Yao and Lu Sicheng started to speak in Chinese which Ah Tai couldn’t understand-- --However, Ah Tai didn’t really mind anyway. He took a look at the cigarettes he had thrown into the trash earlier and smiled to himself. He changed into a more comfortable position to lean against the window while playing with the lighter in his hand.

“What did you say to him?”

“He asked me whether I was coming over for a smoke.”

“Why can’t he teach you something better? Have you told him that you’ve already quit smoking?”

“I did…… Why do you sound like an old mother? Aren’t you hungry? You look quite energetic.”

“He annoyed me.”

“......Gee, you two talked to each other? Haven’t I told you to stay away from him? What did you talk about? Are you alright, let me see-- --”

“We just talked. It wasn’t a fight, what are you looking at…… Put your hand away! He said to make sure that we beat OP tomorrow…… Are all the Korean teams like this? When I said I wished CK would get second place in their group, I secretly felt guilty. I never thought the Koreans would openly root for their opponent?”

“The kind of act when you tell other teams to ‘get revenge for us’ with reddish eyes truly doesn’t exist in LCK. They’re probably more inclined to fight their own battles.”

“...........................................Who are you laughing at?”

“What else did he say?”

“He challenged me to see who’s the first Leblanc in the world at the semi-finals and I accepted the challenge. That’s all!”

“Chi, heh ah.”

“How come when you laugh, it sounds like you have a toothache?”

“Very interesting, two puppies have learned to throw down the gauntlet now.”

“......”

……

The next day.

The quarter-finals were head-to-head matches among the strongest teams of all the different regions. Everytime a team got eliminated, there were a lot heartbroken fans who couldn’t sleep that night-- --To capitalize on the popularity for these teams, the organizer had arranged some special segments during the match for two of the teams that had the largest fanbase and were expected to have the most heated confrontation when they met……

-- --Among all the quarter-final matches, the most anticipated one would certainly be between the two telecommunication teams from both China and Korea.

Before the match, the players came onto the stage and sat down in their own seats and moved around their wrists while chatting with each other to relax. The four big screens above the stage would usually broadcast the highlights during the group matches from both teams…… It was routine for every match and helped get the audience excited about the coming match. When the highlight moment was over, the audience thought the match was about to begin but Commentator D suddenly gave a wry laugh-- --

Commentator D: [There’s a surprise today.]

Commentator F: [I know what it is. It’s spectacular.]

Commentator G: [Hahahahaha, to be honest with you, I made the request to come here as a commentator after I saw it-- --It’s amazing. I wouldn’t allow myself to miss it!]

As the three commentators were talking, the four big screens went dark. Then the video of players trash talking began. The first one to appear on the screen was Little Fatty. He stood in front of the camera with a confused look and asked: “What’s this? Trash talk? Now?”

-- --This had never happened during S series competitions. The audience realized what the segment was about and quickly grew animated!

The immediate reaction from Little Fatty when he saw his confused big face on the screen was to raise both of his hands to cover his face: “The editor agreed to cut this part! ! He not only didn’t cut it but even gave me a close-up! ! !”

Tong Yao reached over to pat Little Fatty and gladly said: “......Fortunately, mid wasn’t the first one to be taped. Otherwise, I would be the one who was forced to get a close-up.”

You're My Belated Happiness - Chapter 16 Part 1

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re My Belated Happiness
Chapter 16 Part 1

Ruan Yu sprang up after hearing Xu Huaisong’s last message.

Ten minutes, ten minutes again, why was it so sudden every time?

She rushed over to the closet in a flurry, repeating what she had gone through last time when she only had ten minutes to get ready to video chat with Xu Huaisong. One minute before the ten minutes was up, she ran out of the door with a stack of files in her arms, rushed into the elevator, then bent over with a hand on her knee, gasping for air.

When she walked out of the apartment building, she was about to slow down and catch her breath, but saw a Land Rover parking at the roadside some distance away and started jogging over immediately.

The big shot lawyer Xu hadn’t responded to her even with a punctuation mark for three days just because of a screw-up. Who was she to dare let him wait for her for even one more minute?

When she rushed to the side of the car, a faint flush covered her cheeks. Through the window, she found the driver was Chen Hui, the young man who received her when she visited the law office last time.

Xu Huaisong was sitting in the back seat. He rolled down the window to give her a glance.

Ruan Yu stood next to the window, leaned slightly forward, and greeted him while still gasping for air: “Mr. Xu……”

Xu Huaisong lifted his chin, gesturing for her to get in the car.

Since he was sitting in the back, Ruan Yu naturally chose to sit in the front passenger seat. This time the driver wasn’t the one who she had a blind date with, so there was no need to avoid sitting in the front.

The look in Xu Huaisong’s eyes cooled down. He lightly said: “To the law office.”

Once the car door closed, it was awkwardly quiet inside the car. Ruan Yu’s curiosity got the best of her. She couldn’t stop herself from turning her head to ask: “Mr. Xu, why did you happen to be near here?”

“Passing by here from the airport to the office.”

Ruan Yu figured that he probably didn’t plan to come here. It was because she happened to message him so he made the trip to come by.

Ruan Yu smiled: “Sorry to trouble you.”

Chen Hui was about to start the car when he got a phone call. After exchanging a few lines on the phone, his expression became grim.

He turned to say to Xu Huaisong: “Song Ge, Zhang Jie has run into some problem handling a case over at the construction site.”

Xu Huaisong was quiet for a second before nodding: “Take my luggage to the hotel after you’re done.” Then he opened the car door to get out of the car.

Ruan Yu didn’t have time to react before she saw Xu Huaisong walk over to the side of the front passenger door. He looked down at her through the half opened window: “You want to go to the construction site?” As he was talking, he pulled open the car door.

Ruan Yu then realized that Chen Hui wasn’t able to take them to the office and hurriedly got out of the car. She silently muttered why it was so difficult to communicate with Xu Huaisong.

Would he lose his tongue if he made a few more words of explanation?

The door was closed and Chen Hui quickly drove away.

It was around noon time, the sun was burning hot. Hang City was unusually hot the past couple of days. There was a large temperature difference between the  inside and outside of the car. Ruan Yu held on to her files with one hand and put the other hand on her forehead to shield herself from the sunlight. She looked up at Xu Huaisong: “Shall we call for a ride?”

Xu Huaisong probably felt that it was too hot as well and didn’t want to go through the trouble. He frowned and said: “Never mind.” Then he took a look at the apartment building behind her.

This time, Ruan Yu reacted quickly. She immediately understood him: “Go to my place to talk?”

Xu Huaisong didn’t answer the question directly but said: “If it’s not convenient, then we’ll talk next time. I’ll go back……”

“It’s convenient, convenient!” Ruan Yu immediately interrupted him.

Five minutes later, Ruan Yu, who was slowly opening the door lock, really felt like slapping herself.

Just because he got angry for a few days, now look at how much she’s trying to ingratiate herself to him? To hell with being convenient.

You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 176 Part 3

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 176 Part 3

After Tong Yao returned to her own room, she chatted on WeChat with Lu Sicheng for a while.

Then she felt hungry. Little Fatty kindly invited her to their room to get some crackers and Lao Gan Ma…… Little Fatty and Lu Sicheng’s room was one floor above hers. Tong Yao put on a jacket and hotel slippers and went out of the door.

She took the elevator up. When she stepped out of the elevator, she felt a cool breeze blowing over…… Tong Yao looked over and saw the window on the other side of the hallway half open. A tall young man was leaning against the window in the shadows. He had a lit cigarette in his hand.

Tong Yao took a look at the young man, but immediately looked away.

The young man was TAT’s Ah Tai.

Shit, the saying “enemies often cross each other’s path” was so true.

Tong Yao pretended that she hadn’t seen him, gathered her jacket, took a look at the room number directional signs, and went straight past Ah Tai to go to her target room. Just as she passed by Ah Tai, the man leaning against the window suddenly straightened up and called out: “Smiling.”

Tong Yao tripped, all sorts of ideas went by her mind: “wtf,” “what are you calling me for,” “don’t mind him,” “didn’t hear him,” “pretend not to hear him,” “even if you’re chickening out, do it in style”. Tong Yao freezed with her back to the man for a moment, then she sighed and turned around to say goodnight in English to him-- --

…...She thought, I’ll just acknowledge you for a second.

China is a country that values etiquette anyway.

When Ah Tai saw the uneasy smile on Tong Yao’s face, he snickered. Then he spoke in English with great pronunciation: “You guys better not lose to OP tomorrow.”

Tong Yao was surprised but nodded: “That’s for sure.”

Ah Tai extinguished the cigarette in his hand and threw it together with a pack of cigarettes which he was holding into the trash can. He paused a little then lifted up his chin: “I’ll see you at the semi-finals and we won’t ban Leblanc then. Let’s prove to the world who’s truly the number one Leblanc?”

Tong Yao blinked.

For a moment she didn’t realize that he was challenging her.

What went through her mind instead was all the “trauma” he had created for her-- --The first time she cried from being under too much pressure after joining a professional team and realized that Leblanc wasn’t exclusively hers; she got drunk and acted like a madwoman on her captain’s back; she practiced Azir throughout the night. She still remembered the feeling of humiliation and bitterness at the time…… Tong Yao cast down her eyes and didn’t say anything.

Then at the end of the hallway, a room door opened from inside. Lu Sicheng stretched out his head, looking at Tong Yao who was standing still in the hallway. He raised his eyebrows: “What are you doing there?”

Tong Yao came back to herself.

A cool breeze brushed over her face, giving her a chilling sensation.

But her head was burning.

The looks in her eyes changed, the momentary hesitation became a look of determination. She nonchalantly gave the young man a look and calmly said with a faint smile: “Sure, looking forward to the match against TAT. The championship trophy will be even more shinier after beating you.”
