You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 77 Part 2

By the time Tong Yao woke up, it was time for the late night meal.

She saw Lu Sicheng sitting in his own seat. Tong Yao sat in her seat beside him with messy hair and black circles under her eyes. He asked: “Did you become a thief? Didn’t even show up for dinner.”

Tong Yao listlessly gave him a glance then gave a rather lackluster response: “En.”

Lu Sicheng paused for a bit then turned to look at Tong Yao: “Duos?”

Tong Yao stretched her head to take a look at Lu Sicheng’s computer screen, then shrank back: “You’re Diamond again, why bother playing duos.”

“You used Lu Yue’s id.”

“No way. You have to pay for a game leveler. He used my id to lower my rank and I use his id to get him up a rank. I’m not that stupid.”

After speaking her mind, Tong Yao opened the game and got into solo queue. Then she went to the kitchen to look for food in the refrigerator…...Lu Sicheng turned his head back and from the corner of his eye he saw a stunned Old Cat. Old Cat opened his mouth wide and mouthed: What’s going on?

Lu Sicheng shook his head. He didn’t know what had gotten into her head either-- --

Tong Yao spoke little for the rest of the night, especially to Lu Sicheng.

It was like she had suddenly become allergic to him.

As Tong Yao was waiting for her game, she found gossip about Qing Dynasty’s jungler going on a date with a girl other than his girlfriend all over the internet. But the only evidence was a blurry picture of their backs-- --Some fans tried to defend him. They argued that the shirt Xu Tailun was wearing during the stream in the afternoon wasn’t the same one as in the picture, therefore it couldn’t have been Xu Tailun.

The guy really knew how to cover for himself.

Tong Yao sneered but didn’t say anything. She turned on her stream and while she was still waiting to get into a game, she used her cell phone to check Tieba-- --One of the fans who saw her and Lu Sicheng at the movie theater in the afternoon had made a post saying that she had met Smiling and Chessman at Wantai Theatre around two o’clock that afternoon…….

The discussion underneath that post were all about why these two people would go to a movie together until the 30th reply. Someone suddenly asked a question-- --

[Wait, isn’t that when Xu Tailun was supposedly at the movies? The background of that picture looks just like Wantai Theatre, the clock on the wall shows the exact time!]

Tong Yao’s hand paused.

She put down the cell phone and looked back at her computer screen. Then she discovered that the bullet comments had already switched from casual conversation to a few fixed topics-- --

Half of her fans were asking why she and Lu Sicheng had gone to the movies all by themselves; the other half asked her whether she had seen Xu Tailun there.

“I went to buy goldfish with Cheng Ge, afterwards we just went to the movie-- --There’s no rule that only a couple can go to the movies together. If there’s really something going on between us, would we go to the movie hand in hand and wait for you guys to gossip about it? As for jungler of the other team, I don’t know if he's watched a movie or not. There were a lot of people in the theatre, besides more came in after the lights had turned dark, like thieves sneaking in……”

Tong Yao paused and gave an ambiguous snicker: “If you all want to know so badly, why don’t you go ask him?”

The bullet comments suddenly intensified. Many were asking what she meant by that, or why she’d snickered, or whether she actually knew something…...Tong Yao finally got into a new match, so she turned off the bullet comments so she could concentrate on her game, making the excuse that she didn’t want to continue on the subject-- --

What she didn’t know was that afterwards, someone who claimed to have earned a full score in language on the college entrance exam analyzed what she had said. After more scrutiny, her snicker was interpreted as proof of her accusation against Xu Tailun. She didn’t know anything about it-- --

Or, to be exact, she didn’t care even if she had known about it.

Those Sweet Times - Chapter 64 Part 3

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

Those Sweet Times
Chapter 64 Part 3

They had quite a pleasant dinner. Or at the very least Xiang Nuan and Yue Yingying enjoyed each other’s company tremendously. Xiang Nuan liked Lin Chuyan’s mother very much now. She was quite knowledgeable about a wide range of topics. They could converse about almost anything. Even when the topic was somewhat difficult to understand, Yue Yingying could use plain and simple language to explain it. In addition, the way Yue Yingying spoke was always gentle and soft, making people feel like getting closer to her.

After dinner, Yue Yingying asked Xiang Nuan: “Xiang Nuan, do you like to see musicals?”

“Yes, I do. Auntie, do you have any recommendations?”

“I sponsor a non-profit project which supports young people who produce their own musicals.”

“That’s quite a special project.”

“That’s right. Oh, there happens to be a show tonight. If you want to see it, I-- --”

“Mom.” Lin Chuyan interrupted their conversation.

Yue Yingying looked towards Lin Chuyan and discovered that his son was looking at her somewhat bitterly.

“I……” Yue Yingying paused with some difficulty, then continued: “Uncle and I don’t have time tonight to go. It would be a shame to waste the tickets. How about, you and Chuyan go and see it?”

Lin Chuyan secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Finally, his mother was on his side, thank goodness.

-- --

The musical had good music but the plot was a bit boring.

Halfway through the show, Xiang Nuan couldn’t stay awake anymore. Her head tilted to the side and began rhythmically nodding.

She actually really wanted to play a round of Kings of Glory, but felt that would be too disrespectful to all the actors.

But she ended up constantly nodding her head back and forth.

After a little while, an arm suddenly reached over and circled around her shoulders.

Lin Chuyan lifted his hand and pushed Xiang Nuan’s head onto his own shoulder.

“Go sleep.” He said.

Xiang Nuan didn’t resist the offer at all; she leaned on Lin Chuyan’s shoulder like a supple willow branch.

Lin Chuyan fixed his eyes on the stage, but didn’t really know what he was looking at. All his attention was on her.

Lin Chuyan licked his lips, trying to suppress his racing heart. He worried that the thumping would wake her up.

Xiang Nuan breathed in and out in a regular rhythm. It looked like she was sound asleep.

Under the cover of darkness in the theatre, no one could notice that her eyelashes were quivering and her face was burning red.

You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 77 Part 1

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 77 Part 1

Tong Yao went back to her room and threw herself onto the bed.

[ZGDX, Smiling: I wussed out. Dogs bite in every country. I really shouldn’t have forgotten the pain that I suffered before, now the slap in the face came so quickly-- --I give up. You really can’t fall in love with a professional player! The model esports couples are all fake, fake, fake! No man can resist the temptation from outside! None! ! !]

[Ah Mao’s Mom: …………...What’s all this? What’s wrong with you? Going crazy all of a sudden? Your captain betray you? No, that’s not right, you guys aren’t even together yet. How can he betray you. Well, what has he done?]

Tong Yao used voice chat to describe in detail how she had seen Xu Tailun at the market and in the movie theatre today. As she was retelling the whole story, the feelings of betrayal and disgust she had in the past when Jian Yang had kept her in the dark came back fresh again.  She felt like her heart was burning, so she spoke quickly and used rather harsh words.

However, Jinyang totally missed the point.

[Ah Mao’s Mom: My goodness, you and Cheng Ge went to the market, had lunch, and went to the movie together?]

[ZGDX, Smiling: You’ve missed the point my friend!]

[Ah Mao’s Mom: The point is that you two went shopping and ate food and watched a movie together, isn’t it? That, my friend, is a date! ! ! !]

[ZGDX, Smiling: The point is that Qing Dynasty’s Korean player has a girlfriend and they have PDA every day. He attracts many fans by being the most sweet player in esports and the faithful half of a model couple in this circle. Now he attracts fans and has to go on a date with a fan! He lied about staying at the base playing with his alternate id this afternoon. If he’s not guilty, why does he have to lie? The most unforgivable part is that his teammate helped him with his lie! Are they sick? ! Are all of them sick? !]

[Ah Mao’s Mom: Don’t get over excited now.]

[Ah Mao’s Mom: This Korean player is the key player on the Qing Dynasty. I heard from Ai Jia that the team has to listen to him since he’s the team’s carry…...His teammate may have no choice but to cover him.]

Tong Yao thought about it while holding the cell phone in hand. She recalled that when Xu Tailun turned the camera to face his teammate this afternoon, his teammate did look a little uneasy and the way he spoke was a little awkward-- --It was because she was so annoyed at the time that she didn’t think much about it.

[ZGDX, Smiling: It’s a Chinese club, isn’t it a joke that they all have to listen to a Korean.]

[Ah Mao’s Mom: There are only a few Korean players who are truly willing to play and win in the Chinese region, we have to cherish them-- --Besides, calm down, don’t stereotype people for no reason. Jian Yang’s mistake and Xu Tailun being a jerk have nothing to do with your captain. You can’t just put them into the same category simply by saying ‘dogs bite in every country.’]

[ZGDX, Smiling: ……]

[Ah Mao’s Mom: You’re once bitten, twice shy.]

[ZGDX, Smiling: Jian Yang was my first love. He went out happily with some night club hostess and I lost 5 kg. In the end, I had to go abroad to get away from all that.]

[ZGDX, Smiling: What about it? I’m scared! Scared! ! ! ]

[Ah Mao’s Mom: So you don’t want your captain now?]

[ZGDX, Smiling: ……. I don’t, I don’t.]

[Ah Mao’s Mom: You finally managed to stick out your nose tip from the shell and now you want to shrink back into it again. Alright, suit yourself!]

[ZGDX, Smiling: The best way to avoid being cheated or tricked is to not fall in love at all.]

[Ah Mao’s Mom: Makes sense, I believe you-- --Like hell I believe you.]

[Ah Mao’s Mom: I suggest that you eat your shit first to calm yourself down.]

[ZGDX, Smiling: Who jumped up and down and wanted to break up with her boyfriend simply because a female fan had given her boyfriend some clothing?]

[Ah Mao’s Mom: Me.]

[ZGDX, Smiling: If Ai Jia did anything like what Jian Yang or Xu Tailun had done, you probably would cut off his penis. So don’t be the pot calling the kettle black…...However, I believe your Ai Jia isn’t that kind of person because he’s scared of you, so cherish him.]

After sending the last message, Tong Yao felt exhausted. She took off her makeup, showered, changed into her pajamas, and went to bed, without even feeling like play any games-- --After she had fallen asleep, she had nightmares one after the other and none of them were the kinds she wanted to remember.

Those Sweet Times - Chapter 64 Part 2

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

Those Sweet Times
Chapter 64 Part 2

Yue Yingying continued: “Do you know why we use ‘joy of life’ to compliment your father’s paintings? There are many interesting works of art, but only Professor Xiang’s paintings can be described as being filled with the ‘joy of life.’”

Xiang Nuan was like a sidekick in a TV commercial: “Why is that?”

“Because Professor Xiang’s paintings contain a kind of purity, finesse, and vitality. His whole heartedness during the creation process, totally void of any distraction, gives it a sense of purity. The finesse is the reflection of his optimistic and positive personality in the work. And his passion for the beauty of the world gives his works great vitality.”

Her father seemed more and more incredible as Yue Yingying continue speaking…...Xiang Nuan didn’t know how to continue the conversation.

Lin Chuyan looked at his own mother with disbelief in his eyes.

“It’s true.” Yue Yingying said with all seriousness: “It is said that someone had cured his depression through Professor Xiang’s painting.”

Xiang Nuan thought about it and asked: “Could it be that someone’s just pulling some publicity stunt?”

“No, it’s not like that. The news didn’t report the incident. I heard that the reporter had already written a piece on it, but he went to Professor Xiang to ask for some money. Professor Xiang called the police to report it as a spam call. The reporter never released their piece on it.”

Xiang Nuan couldn’t believe such a thing could happen……

Xiang Nuan felt a bit strange but found it funny to hear gossip about her father from someone else.

Yue Yingying chatted with Xiang Nuan over a wide range of topics from life philosophy to literature and poems. Lin Chuyan discovered that his mother could actually be rather talkative. But he didn’t feel particularly good about it. Shouldn’t his mother let him be alone with Xiang Nuan at a time like this…...Why hadn’t his mother leave yet……

Lin Chuyan felt that only his parents constantly discredited their own son, unlike everyone else’s parents.

-- --

Lin Xueyuan cooked eight dishes and one soup. It was an assortment of cold dishes and hot stir fries, some that had meat and some vegetarian. Yue Yingying told him about Xiang Nuan’s family background after he had finished cooking. Lin Xueyuan was surprised by the information but didn’t react with as much excitement as his wife. He knew he was just an ordinary person; though he collected some antiques to put on an air of being cultured, he could never like the arts as much as he loved money.

He had to admit, however, that he was somewhat jealous when he saw his wife admiring some other man.

Nonetheless, he could fully understand his wife.

Yue Yingying loved painting ever since she was young. Unfortunately, she was born with a great aesthetic taste but a minimum drawing talent. No matter how hard she tried, all her paintings lacked originality-- --Those were her own words. She had said that an amateur may think her paintings were fine, but real painters would laugh at her paintings. She never showed her paintings to anyone anymore; they were all hidden in their house.

Lin Xueyuan could feel his wife’s pain. He figured it was like someone who knew how to make money but just somehow couldn’t and had to watch others counting their earnings…...He could imagine how heartbreaking that would be.

“Hubby, what are you thinking?” Yue Yingying said.

Lin Xueyuan collected his thoughts and put down the last dish on the table. Then he patted his wife’s shoulder and said with a solemn look on his face: “Wife, go for it.”

Yue Yingying: ? ? ?

She gave her husband a baffled glance then turned to fill a bowl with rice for Xiang Nuan.

Xiang Nuan received the rice bowl with both of her hands: “Thank you, auntie.”

“Xiang Nuan, just act like you’re in your own house. Don’t be a stranger, eat more.”

“Mom, where’s my rice?” Lin Chuyan asked.

“Don’t you have hands?”

Lin Chuyan actually sat the furthest from the rice cooker, but had no choice but to walk to the rice cooker to fetch his own rice. After he filled the bowl for himself, he also filled two more bowls for his parents. He thought to himself: does this count as repaying ill will with good will?

Starlight Has No Past - Chapter 51 Part 2

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

Starlight Has No Past
Chapter 51 Part 2

Ye Qiao adjusted the microphone and spoke in a calm and steady voice: “Today, I’ve come back to my hometown Yang City to make a public apology for the mistakes I have made……”
One of the reporters interrupted her. “Ye Qiao! Does Zhao Mo’s suicide have anything to do with you? You’ve chosen this day to have your apology news conference, is it because you knew beforehand about Zhao Mo’s intent to shed light on your innocence?”
The whole room was in commotion about the question.

Some gave the intern reporter a sympathetic look. He was probably so excited that he interrupted Ye Qiao in the middle of her sentence and hadn’t done his homework, otherwise he should have known that the news conference was scheduled ten days ago.

Ye Qiao didn’t mind the interruption. She answered the reporter’s question: “I’ve been waiting for the passage of time to heal some of the pain. The clean pond has become filthy because dirty water has been dumped into it. But as long as there’s a clean water source, after a while, the pond will be clean again on its own. There’s no point arguing or trying to persuade others. Time will let the truth come up to the surface.”
She continued calmly: “I only knew about Ms. Zhao’s incident right before the beginning of this news conference. I’m deeply sorry about the things she’s encountered in her life. Her passing has sped up this process. I’m deeply grateful to her. She was willing to speak the truth for me in the last moments of her life.”

The audience quieted down. Ye Qiao flatly said: “My personal vendetta has hurt not only me, but also my family and those who’ve supported me. It’s also caused loss to my agency and businesses who had trusted me. This matter, no matter whether I’m innocent or not, has caused irrevocable damage. I intend to devote the rest of my time to charity work. I’m here to earnestly request your forgiveness and ask for your willingness to give me a chance to make it up to all of you.”

Finished, she stood up and bowed deeply to the audience: “I’m sorry.”
The audience remained silent.
The news conference should have ended there. But as Ye Qiao was stepping off stage, the host of the news conference, her agent, came up on stage and said: “Next, we’ll have Ye Qiao’s father, Xu Zang, come on stage to say a few words.”

The audience erupting into sound. Xu Zang came up on the stage. He didn’t need an introduction; his fame was great enough that every reporter present was excited-- --The popular actress was from an artist family and her father was the master painter Xu Zang! All the previous rumors about how Ye Qiao got to the position she held today by associating with rich people or using Gu Jin as a stepping stone had been easily dissipated. With such a family background, who would need to rely on any underhanded deals?

Facing the flashing cameras, Xu Zang stood at the same place where Ye Qiao had earlier. He put both of his hands together: “I’ve come on my own, please excuse my bluntness.”
He sat down and without any prepared notes, started to talk as if he was chatting with the audience: “Qiaoqiao is my daughter. She’s had health issues since she was young and has suffered a lot because of it. I’m very pleased that she’s achieved so much after she’s grown up. However, during the past half a year, there’s been much negative news about her. I can understand the misunderstanding that the media and the public have against her. The damages caused due to our family disputes are something both her and I don’t want to see. I am, therefore, here today to make an announcement.”
“I will be establishing a foundation under my name. I’ll auction off all of my paintings as of now and the proceeds from the auction will be donated to the foundation.”
“I wholeheartedly ask all of you to please give my daughter another chance to make it up to all of you.”

Ye Qiao was dumbfounded at the side of the stage and didn’t hear what anyone was saying afterwards.
That was her father. He didn’t know Zhao Mo’s incident would happen today to clear his daughter’s name. He had come to earn a chance for her daughter to get a new start. Ye Qiao was ashamed to face him. Though she’d rejected her father for the past ten years, she’d still shamed her father. Despite that, he still tried all he had to open a protective umbrella for her just because she was his daughter.

Zhou Tingsheng had come to stand next to her without her noticing. He used both of his hands to cup Ye Qiao’s face and used his thumbs to wipe off the tears on her face: “What are you crying for? Your father just got released from the hospital a few days ago. You haven’t gotten a chance to see him since you came out, aren’t you going up to talk to him?”
The sounds of chairs being dragged filled the room. The news conference had ended and everyone was leaving. Xu Zang was also heading backstage.

Starlight Has No Past - Chapter 51 Part 1

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

Starlight Has No Past
Chapter 51 Part 1

The same tattoo table with the same lighting. Ye Qiao lifted her chin up and suddenly burst into giggles as if she had remembered something. Her bony collar bone slightly moved up and down in time with her laughter.
Zhou Tingsheng put on gloves and asked: “What are you laughing about?”
“Do you remember the last time I was here, you told me that this was something for a lifetime.”
Zhou Tingsheng’s hand, holding the needles, slightly quivered. His eyes went darker: “I remember.”
At the time, she had replied that there will be too many things happening in a lifetime and not many of them could be controlled by ourselves.
Had he expected today at the time?

Zhou Tingsheng didn’t expect that a tough guy like him would someday have trouble pushing the needle onto her skin. The machine was already on. As the needle drew closer to her skin, his heart skipped a few beats.

There was a linden flower hiding inside the vines on her chest; it was buried in between the vines.
She was born without freedom, like the vines, always confined by the things it entangled, unable to grow freely. Yet she had blossomed on his fingertips and in his heart.

Ye Qiao didn’t endure the pain in silence like last time, she moaned in pain and her eyes fogged over. Zhou Tingsheng supporting her waist, bent over to kiss her. After he finished the tattoo, he pulled off the gloves and put his hot palm on her exhausted body, caressing from her shoulder blades all the way down to her tailbone. Ye Qiao slightly shivered when his sweaty palm touched her skin. The remnant of the pain and the heat from her back made her a little hazy. The she heard him murmur: “Qiaoqiao, marry me.”
She had imagined many times of the moment when she would hear those words and now the moment had actually come. Ye Qiao had no hesitation and said with a smile: “......I’ll marry you.”

……

Ye Qiao stayed out of the public eye for three days in order to get away from all the rumors and criticism.
She was scheduled to make an official apology in public after ten days of her release. She carefully chose a black suit but was indifferent to the pressure of public opinion she would soon face. Zhou Tingsheng drove her to the location for the news conference without a word. Before Ye Qiao got out of the car, she turned her face right and left to show Zhou Tingsheng with a smile: “How about this? Is my hairdo intact?”
Zhou Tingsheng stroked her newly permed short hair all the way down to the end. The emptiness made him clench his fist: “Don’t go, Qiaoqiao. You don’t need to apologize to anyone.”

“I do.” Ye Qiao held his hand tight and let him slowly release his fist. “I acted in my own way but had disregarded and hurt others, those who trusted me, supported me, including business and film production companies that signed contracts with me. I owe them all an explanation.”
Inside the room, all the cameras were in place. Reporters were patiently waiting for Ye Qiao’s arrival. They had already prepared the headline for today’s entertainment section.

Five minutes before Ye Qiao’s arrival, shocking news reached the cell phones of all the reporters in the room-- --Zhao Mo had jumped off a building!
Zhao Mo had made her name not from her acting career but from being the center figure of several major entertainment news events. She had jumped from the 30th floor of a building this morning and died at the scene. She had left a suicide note with her family. The family had made the content public. In the note, Zhao Mo mentioned that she had been goaded by others to take on drugs to entrap Ye Qiao while under the influence of the drugs. Zhao Mo’s fiancee, Shen Yi, also went on camera to confirm that Zhao Mo was in distraught psychologically and her accusation of Ye Qiao was entirely unbelievable.

Zhou Tingsheng sat down at the audience section in the room and all he could hear was the chatter of the reporters.
“This whole thing’s been turned on its head! Is she going to apologize today or not?”
“Who knows. But if Ye Qiao is really innocent, why didn’t she say anything earlier? Why bother with an apology news conference?”

Zhou Tingsheng looked around and his eyes landed on a familiar figure-- --
The man was wearing a navy blue robe and had a very gentlemanly look. He quietly watched Ye Qiao as she leisurely sat down on the stage.
Some reporters who had covered news in the artist circle recognized him: “Isn’t that Xu Zang? I heard that he’s in poor health and only showed up for a little while at the opening ceremony of his own painting exhibition. Why is he here?”

You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 76 Part 4

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 76 Part 4

[That’s right, a kitten.] On the screen, Xu Tailun, with a warm smile, answered the bullet comments.. [A fan gave it to me. A cute kitten, thanks. I’ll take good care of it.]

Tong Yao turned the volume up.

Little Fatty: “Are you watching Long Ge’s stream?”

Tong Yao: “Yeah, we’re going to play against them. I’m getting to know how their jungler plays.”

Little Fatty: “Oh.” He didn’t suspect anything, turning around to focus on his own game. Tong Yao continued to watch the scream, watching him lie-- --

[This afternoon? Went to a movie this afternoon? I didn’t go to a movie this afternoon. You probably mistook me for someone else.] Xu Tailun said: [I just brought the kitten back to the base. How could I go to the movie theatre with a cat. Ask my teammates if you don’t believe me…...With a woman? I have a girlfriend, how could it be possible that I’ve gone to a movie with a woman.]

As he was talking, he turned the camera to face one of his Chinese teammates. His teammate paused for a second then grinned: “Oh, yeah, he was playing games with his alternate id this afternoon.”

Tong Yao rolled her eyes once more.

The little kitten unsteadily walked back and forth in front of the camera. All the bullet comments were about how cute the kitten was. Then, the kitten stopped and sneezed, shaking its head after.

Bullet comments were like “how cute,” “it sneezed, sneezed,” “I really want to have a cat too,”-- --

Only a few bullet comments mentioned: Is the cat catching a cold? Is the air condition in the base too cold for the cat to catch a cold in this kind of weather?

Tong Yao frowned, unable to stand it anymore, and logged off. Lu Sicheng came down from the stairs and saw Tong Yao sitting cross legged on the sofa, hugging a pillow, and looking like she was deeply disgusted with something. He walked over and pushed her head: “What’s wrong?’

“That Xu Tailun is really disgusting, not a good person.” Tong Yao said: “I dislike him.”

“Oh.”

“All the men who play professionally are disgusting. No one is good.” Tong Yao said: “Really disgusting.”

“......Are you retarded? What does he have anything to do with me?”

Tong Yao stood up on the sofa. Lu Sicheng subconsciously stepped back a little. Tong Yao stuffed the pillow in her arms into his, then jumped off the sofa and went upstairs with eyebrows crossed…...Lu Sicheng watched her shut her door close. He threw the pillow back onto the sofa and asked the others without even looking back: “What’s wrong with that woman?”

Little Fatty: “Don’t know.”

Lu Sicheng: “She was fine a while ago.”

Little Fatty: “She’s yours, go ask her yourself.”

Lu Sicheng turned his eyes away from the door on the second floor, then irritatedly scratched his hair: “Alright, alright.” He mumbled: “I just can’t let her out of my sight for a second.”

Those Sweet Times - Chapter 64 Part 1

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

Those Sweet Times
Chapter 64 Part 1

Yue Yingying had rushed home to meet Xiang Nuan out of curiosity. She wondered who the girl Lin Chuyan likes so much was like. She felt that she had to go home and observe Xiang Nuan for her son. After chatting with Xiang Nuan, she found the young women to be cute, unpretentious, and well-spoken. Her son seemed to have good taste in women. As they chatted, Yue Yingying happened to mention that Xiang Daying was her favorite artist. Unexpectedly, Xiang Nuan replied: “He’s my father.”

Yue Yingying lost control when she heard that.

As the gentle and kind Yue Yingying suddenly raised her voice into a high pitch, Xiang Nuan was stunned. For a second, she even suspected that her father had antagonized someone…...But she soon realized that she had forgotten an important fact-- --Lin Chuyan’s father had tried very hard to get a painting from her father to give to his wife.

So it wasn’t that her father had enemies, but was Lin Chuyan’s mother’s idol?

Xiang Nuan thought about herself; if her two favorite champions in Kings of Glory-- --Zhuge Liang and Diaochan-- -- were to appear right in front of her eyes, she would probably scream too.

Yue Yingying was apologetic for suddenly losing control. She used one hand to tightly hold the other and subconsciously rubbed them. She smiled at Xiang Nuan: “Sorry, sorry. I’m too excited.” She turned to look at her son who was walking towards them, with an obvious complaint in her eyes.

Lin Chuyan hadn’t talked much about Xiang Nuan in front of her parents. Naturally, he had never mentioned Xiang Nuan’s family either. He walked over to sit on the couch and said: “I forgot to tell you.” It was a rather spacious living room, but he chose to sit right next to Xiang Nuan.

Xiang Nuan was a little distracted.

Yue Yingying picked up Xiang Nuan’s right hand and put it in her own hands. She patted Xiang Nuan’s hand lightly and said with a smile: “I was wondering what kind of family would raise such a nice kid. It turned out to be Professor Xiang’s daughter, no wonder.”

Lin Chuyan felt like reminding his mother that her expression looked like she was kissing up to……

Xiang Nuan was embarrassed about the praise and blushed: “Auntie, you’re flattering me.”

“Not at all. Xiang Nuan, maybe you don’t understand the position your esteemed father is held in the artist circle?”

Lin Chuyan put his hand to his forehead and couldn’t believe that his mother had even used the word esteemed……

Xiang Nuan was taken aback by Yue Yingying’s question. She only knew about the position her father held at home. Most of the time, he had to listen to his wife; he didn’t really have any position at home to speak of…...As for his position in the artist circle, Xiang Nuan certainly knew a little bit about it since she grew up in such a family. She knew her father had some fame but didn’t really think he was as famous as some of the well known painters whom she knew about……

Xiang Nuan asked Yue Yingying with uncertainty: “Auntie, is my father very famous?”

“Professor Xiang may not be the most famous artist, but he’s greatly respected and admired in the circle. He studied under the Chinese painting master Mr. Qu Wensong and is his last pupil. His earlier paintings are influenced by Mr. Qu but soon afterwards he created his own style. His paintings are spontaneous and unconventional, overflowing with the joy of life. What’s more special is his character. He’s a noble man, indifferent to fame and money. He seldom sells his paintings and refuses to form cliques or factions. About 99% of his paintings on the market are fake.” Yue Yingying briefly summed up her understanding of Xiang Daying.

Xiang Nuan felt like she had just heard an entry from Baidu Encyclopedia in voice. After learning from Lin Chuyan’s mother, Xiang Nuan felt that the father she sees every day at home wasn’t the real Xiang Daying……

You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 76 Part 3

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 76 Part 3

The surrounding fans burst into laughter at Tong Yao’s self-introduction. Tong Yao’s ears began to turn slightly pink. She gave Lu Sicheng a glance. Lu Sicheng then said with a faint smile: “Don’t laugh, you guys. She has thin skin. It took me quite a while to persuade her to see a movie with me.”

One of the male fans doubtfully asked: “Just you two?”

Lu Sicheng nodded: “En. That’s right.”

One female fan hesitated: “So you two are really together now? I see a lot of discussion about you two on Tieba and Weibo……”

Lu Sicheng: “We-- --”

“We’re purely teammates. It just happened that we came to see the movie together!”

Tong Yao interjected. She could see that female fan obviously take a breath of relief, as did Tong Yao-- --She turned to look at Lu Sicheng at the same time. Lu Sicheng stopped talking even though Tong Yao kept trying to message to him with her eyes that he could say something in support of her statement. But Lu Sicheng didn’t seem to have intent to say anything.

Tong Yao found Lu Sicheng’s reaction quite baffling.

The last call for the movie called just then. Tong Yao and Lu Sicheng were finally saved from the fans. They walked one after the other into the theatre.

They sat down in the theatre for a while before Tong Yao noticed Xu Tailun and his girl companion entered the theatre in the darkness…...Tong Yao tugged Lu Sicheng’s sleeve: “Look at the two walking down there.”

Lu Sicheng: “ Who?”

Tong Yao: “The butterfly jungler.”

Lu Sicheng: “......”

He lifted his hand and pat Tong Yao’s head: “Mind your own business.”

……

That night after they returned to base Tong Yao collapsed onto the sofa and refused to get up. She watched Lu Sicheng poured the goldfish into his fishbowl while chatting with Little Fatty-- --

“Where have you two been?”

“Buying fish.”

“Buying fish for a whole day?”

“En.”

“You think I’m a fool.”

“Actually, we went to see <Independence Day 2>. Let me fill you in about the plot?”

“......”

Little Fatty immediately covered up his ears. Lu Sicheng pulled off his hands with a stone cold face: “Come on.”

Little Fatty: “I don’t want to listen, I don’t! Go away, go away!”

Lu Sicheng released him and said “Trying to trick me, hmph,” while keeping his chin held high. Tong Yao wondered what he was proud of …...Tong Yao watched him go upstairs, then turned around to lie down on the sofa to play on her cell phone. She clicked here and there until she happened to see Xu Tailun’s stream. It looked like he had just started.

Tong Yao clicked to watch it.

The first thing she noticed was the kitten which had been grabbed from her hand was walking back and forth in front of the camera-- --

Those Sweet Times - Chapter 63 Part 3

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

Those Sweet Times
Chapter 63 Part 3

Xiang Nuan came into the living room after the movie and saw an extra person there besides Lin Chuyan’s father. Even without an introduction, she could already guess that it was Lin Chuyan’s mother since they looked somewhat alike. It looked like Lin Chuyan had inherited his mother’s good looks.

Yue Yingying’s eyes brightened when she saw Xiang Nuan. She was very pretty, even more than in the picture. Not waiting for Lin Chuyan’s introduction, Yue Yingying smiled and said: “You must be Xiang Nuan? I heard Chuyan talk about you. Such a lovely and cute girl.”

So Lin Chuyan had said that Xiang Nuan was lovely and cute in front of other people! Though Xiang Nuan still thought Lin Chuyan was a nut case, she was quite happy that Lin Chuyan had praised her.

Xiang Nuan was a little embarrassed: “How are you, auntie.”

“Come, sit. Let your uncle cook dinner. Your uncle is a good cook, but usually doesn’t do it very often. We’re very lucky today.”

Yue Yingying was a gentle and sweet person from her looks to her voice. She spoke slowly, in a relaxed manner. Xiang Nuan felt she was a kind and patient person, easy to get along with.

Lin Xueyuan had already let his secretary deliver all the ingredients he needed to cook dinner. He planned to prepare a few more dishes than usual and went into the kitchen early.

Lin Chuyan went into the kitchen after his father, leaving Xiang Nuan in the living room to talk to his mother. “Dad, is there anything I can help?”

Lin Xueyuan didn’t buy his son’s sudden good will: “What help can you do? You only know how to cook instant noodles.”

Lin Chuyan kept quiet and noticed green onions among the ingredients. He took the green onions and started to peel them. He at least knew how to do that.

Lin Xueyuan put on an apron and put all the vegetables into the wash basin to wash. He spoke as he washed the vegetables. “Chuyan, don’t think I’m nagging at you. But do you know how to chase after a girl? Braiding your hair? How can you do that?”

Lin Chuyan answered while peeling off the outer skin of the green onions: “She wanted to braid my hair, what am I supposed to do?”

“She wants to do it and you just let her? You’re a man, can’t you be a bit more manly? That isn’t the way to be nice to a girl. I’m very nice to your mother, right? If your mom wanted to braid my hair, I absolutely wouldn’t let her.”

Lin Chuyan gave his father a glance: “Well, she makes you put on a facial mask and you never refuse her.”

Lin Xueyuan took out a boning knife, thrust it into the chopping board, then stared at his son: “I’ll chop you up if you talk back again.”

Lin Chuyan didn’t say anything in response. After peeling the green onions, he got closer to his dad and asked in a small voice: “Can I ask you something?”

“En? Go ahead.”

“You said that I’m quite shameless in front of Xiang Nuan?”

Lin Xueyuan stopped washing the vegetables and a guilty expression flashed by on his face. But soon enough, he rightfully turned to look at his son and retorted: “Have I wronged you? Aren’t you shameless? Don’t you already know that?”

Lin Chuyan sighed: “You talked about me like this in front of the girl I like. I can’t feel good anymore. Xiang Nuan was laughing at me just now. If my mom knew about this……”

Lin Xueyuan took a deep breath and tried his best not to explode. He wiped his hands dry and took out his cell phone and tapped it a few times.

Lin Chuyan heard a notification sound on his own cell phone. He checked it and found that his father had transferred 5000 RMB into his account.

It looked like his father was paying him hush money.

Lin Chuyan held his cell phone in hand and whispered to his father: “Dad, you look down upon me.”

Lin Xueyuan sent another 5000: “Is that enough?”

Lin Chuyan knew that he shouldn’t push too hard. He took the money and put his cell phone away: “I’m not doing this for money. I just don’t want to see you fight with mom.”

Lin Xueyuan rolled his eyes: “Get lost.”

With the forceful ‘get lost’, Lin Chuyan quickly left the kitchen and went back to the living room. As he stepped into the living room, he heard his own mother screaming.

His mother seldom lost self-control like this.

He heard his mother saying: “Good heavens! So you’re Xiang Daying’s daughter? !”

Starlight Has No Past - Chapter 50 Part 3

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

Starlight Has No Past
Chapter 50 Part 3

Zhou Tingsheng opened the door on the passenger side and quietly fixed his eyes on Ye Qiao.
She stood still. She looked back at him with clear, pure eyes. After a long moment, she slowly got into the car.
The car made a sharp turn and sped off.

Zhou Tingsheng shook off the tailing paparazzi and asked: “Where to?”
“I don’t feel like going home.” Ye Qiao looked at the road in front of them: “You decide.”

Fifteen minutes later, Zhou Tingsheng parked the car in front of Wuzi’s club. The staff in the lobby were all new. A tall receptionist went to inform Wuzi about them. Wuzi came out in surprise. “Sheng Ge didn’t tell me that my sister-in-law was coming today…...Everyone, tell the kitchen to make a few more dishes! I’m going to have a reception dinner for Qiao Jie!”
After exchanging greetings with Wuzi, Ye Qiao and Zhou Tingsheng went to the guest room to get some rest, but they didn't know what to say to each other.

“I’m going to take a shower.” She spoke in a flat tone.
Though half a year wasn’t a particularly long stretch of time, the separation had nonetheless created an invisible distance between them. Ye Qiao wanted to wash off the smell of the prison and the detachment of the past half a year. However, Zhou Tingsheg’s new hair style and clothing all reminded her that she had been away for some time.

The sound of water splashing in the bathroom seemed to last for as long as a century. Zhou Tingsheng in the meantime tried to get into the appropriate attitude to face her, but he couldn’t find one.
He could still hear Ruan Feiyan sobbing in his ears-- -- “I told her that she owed me this. I just wanted to have her arrested, be suspected by others, and tarnish her reputation. I didn’t plan that she’d be found guilty…...She could’ve just explained it to them; with the kind of lawyers your family could hire, she’d never have gotten any serious jail time! It’s her fault, she didn’t bother explaining herself!”
Others may not have understood, but he understood very well.
She was doing it to redeem his sin, but all it did was make him feel as if the weight of his crime had increased.

Zhou Tingsheng didn’t have time to take a good look at Ye Qiao until she came out of the bathroom.
Her chin was pointier. She had lost some weight. The ends of her short hair felt like needles pricking his heart.
Ye Qiao noticed the emotions in his eyes and moved closer to him. She circled his waist: “It’s alright.”
She buried her face deeply under his chin and said in a deep voice: “As long as you’re here.”
She had lost everything she had strived for: career, fame, and freedom. But she didn’t care. She finally could declare her love for him without guilt.
“It’s not alright.” Zhou Tingsheng squeezed out those words and repeated it again.

Ye Qiao thought she could maintain her calm as usual, but the familiar smell of his body made her eyes well up. She took a deep breath and said: “You don’t need to think about any of that. You still owe me a lot of other things……” She looked up at him with a smile and used her fingers to open her bath robe to show the vines under her collar bone: “These are still here. You haven’t finished them.”

The tattoo room hadn’t been used for a long time.
After dinner, Wuzi handed over the key to Zhou Tingsheng and tapped his shoulder: “My sister-in-law is such a nice person. She heard that my wife is going to have our child soon and already gave me the red envelope in advance. When are you going to have your wedding? Don’t let that incident influence……”
“Don’t worry, you can’t get away from giving us a wedding gift.” Zhou Tingsheng took the key and backed away two steps.
He turned around and saw Ye Qiao waiting for him at the end of the corridor under the dim light.

Starlight Has No Past - Chapter 50 Part 2

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

Starlight Has No Past
Chapter 50 Part 2

Ye Qiao hadn’t seen Zhou Tingsheng since that day in court. Zheng Xishuo had requested to visit her several times, but she had turned them all down. The only one person she agreed to meet was a young man named Shen Yi.
The young man had a weathered face and kept apologizing when he saw Ye Qiao.

“Zhao Mo is too hard headed, that’s why others could take advantage of her. I know you’re innocent. She was dragged into the scandal and believed you had done it to her. We all know now that it was Xu Yinsan. They were both having an affair with the same big shot and always disagreed with each other. After Xu Yinsan’s affairs were exposed, she dragged Zhao Mo into it. By that point she’d already lost her mind and wouldn’t listen to reason. She firmly believed that it was you. Everytime she had her episodes, she kept saying she’d get her revenge on you.”
“She even hired a private detective to follow you and take pictures of you secretly……”
Ye Qiao said: “It’s alright. That’s all in the past.”

Shen Yi was surprised. “How can that be? How about your family, your boyfriend……”
“They’re all fine.” Ye Qiao interrupted him. “You don’t have to feel guilty. You can’t accept Zhao Mo and left her. You have your own reasons. You don’t have to blame yourself for other people’s mistakes.”
Shen Yi was taken aback. “Then why do you……”
“Because the two men I love the most all owe a debt.”
She continued. “I’m paying back for them.”

Heavy snow fell on Yang City several times during the first month of the Chinese New Year. The New Year holidays went by rather depressingly.
New shoots were sprouting on the willow trees and ducks were swimming in the ponds. Spring came and went, then summer came with lotus flowers waving in the wind.

During the half a year when Ye Qiao was in prison, there were constant legal issues stemming from contract cancellations with business partnerships, commercial endorsements, and movie productions since her public image was tarnished. Zhou Tingsheng took care of all of them for her. Ruan Feiyan, after treatment in the hospital, had recovered from her head wound but she had lost her eyesight. The sudden blindness had sent her into self imposed isolation. She refused to speak. The Zhou family had taken responsibility for her daily life. Xu Zang’s health had made a turn to the worse since Ye Qiao went to jail. Zhou Tingsheng visited him from time to time. At first, both of them couldn’t get over the past. But gradually, after surviving several life and death struggles, Xu Zang could finally let go of the past and make peace with himself and Zhou Tingsheng.

The last day of Ye Qiao’s imprisonment soon arrived.
It was a day he had long been waiting for, but when the day actually arrived, Zhou Tingsheng acted as if it was any normal day.

Liang Zirao walked into Zhou Tingsheng’s office and pulled away the papers in his hand: “Did you forget what day it is today?”
Zhou Tingsheng grabbed one piece of the papers back and signed his name at the bottom of the page, put the official stamp on it, then locked everything on the desk into his drawer before he got up and said: “I’ll go get her. I’m taking the afternoon off.”
Liang Zirao watched him from behind and found it rather humorous.  Since when did Zhou Tingsheng bother following company procedures!

Zhou Tingsheng calmly walked into the elevator, reached the garage, but subconsciously hastened his footsteps towards his parked car.
The navy blue Porsche Cayenne moved on the highway at full speed, the rumbling of the car as he drove drowned out the rest of the world.
The car only slowed down once neared the jail gates, as if Zhou Tingsheng was timid of getting too close.

Ye Qiao walked out from the gate with a plain face. Her long and beautiful hair now only went down to her ears. She was wearing a simple cotton sweater. The media waiting outside swarmed towards her. An ocean of lights accompanied the high-pitched voices of the reporters. Ye Qiao kept her silence. Zhou Tingsheng stepped on the accelerator, forcing his way through the crowd and stopped the car right in front of Ye Qiao.
The panicked crowd finally quieted down, with some of the photographers snapping shots of the scary scene.

You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 76 Part 2

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 76 Part 2

When Tong Yao walked near the bathroom, she had unexpectedly saw people she knew.

Xu Tailun and his female companion stood in the area right in front of the bathroom. The two were whispering and giggling. Xu Tailun held two movie tickets in his hand. Tong Yao figured that they were going to see the same movie as Lu Sicheng and her.

What an unwanted surprise.

Tong Yao raised her eyebrows, then frowned when she remembered what Lu Sicheng said about who the woman was. She slowed down and couldn’t make up her mind whether to greet Xu Tailun or not-- --The first match of this week would be against Xu Tailun’s team, Qing Dynasty, it seemed awkward pretending not to know him.

As she was hesitating, Xu Tailun happened to look up and notice her. He had taken off his face mask by now and called out to Tong Yao. Tong Yao turned to face him and saw the woman hastily lower her head and put on a face mask……

She was carrying a canvas bag and something was moving inside.

Tong Yao walked towards Xu Tailun, planning to cordially greet him and leave. Before she could say anything, she heard the woman suddenly say something: “Mimi, don’t move.”

Tong Yao could hear the faint meowing of a kitten.

Tong Yao immediately turned to the woman and asked in surprise: “You brought the kitten here?”

“Ahh.” The woman lifted her head up, carefully glanced at Tong Yao before turning to look at Xu Tailun. Seeing Xu Tailun hadn’t made a sound, she then said in a small voice: “As long as the cat is quiet, no one would find out.”

“It’s early summer now, the kitten probably won’t be able to take the air conditioning inside the theatre?” Tong Yao said, but then realized she might have been a bit meddlesome since it wasn’t her cat. She softened her tone and continued. “Be careful not to let the kitten catch a cold. It’s quite troublesome to take care of a sick kitten.”

The woman nodded.

Xu Tailun stood next to them without saying a word, but looked at Tong Yao with a meaningful smile. Tong Yao didn’t want to bother with them any further, briefly said goodbye, and walked into the bathroom. She waited until the movie was about to start then hurriedly came out of the bathroom to walk back to where Lu Sicheng was. Lu Sicheng was standing next to a full-body drawing of a character from the movie. He was surrounded by a few fans, both men and women……

Tong Yao: “......................................”

What Tong Yao had dreaded happened anyways.

Lu Sicheng saw Tong Yao approaching through the corner of his eyes. He saw her locate him, stop, and begin backing away. His hand paused in the middle of signing an autograph for a fan. Then he took the autograph book from the next fan and quickly opened it to sign his name. He refused the request to take a picture together with this fan-- --

“My companion is here.” He used a somewhat patient tone of voice. “Let’s take the picture together next time, alright?”

Everyone turned their heads when they heard Lu Sicheng-- --

Then they all widened their eyes, as if they had all discovered a new world. A short distance away, they saw a person circling around trying to find a place where she could hide. That person was the new mid of ZGDX, Smiling! ! !

“Ahhh, Cheng Ge, are you having a date with Smiling?”

“Why is she here too? Or is your entire team here?”

“Why is she hiding? Is she shy?”

“My goodness, you two aren’t really dating, are you. I didn’t believe them when they said it online……”

The fans surrounding Lu Sicheng began chattering. Tong Yao had encountered something similar the day she went to buy slippers right after she joined the team. However, she could no longer tell the fans that she was just part of the staff like she had done last time. Now she had no choice but to go forward: “.............Hi everyone, I’m ZGDX’s mid, Smiling.”

She had used the standard introduction when she did MVP interviews.

Those Sweet Times - Chapter 63 Part 2

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

Those Sweet Times
Chapter 63-2

“Basement is good, basement is good.” Yue Yingying was quite happy with Lin Chuyan’s unexpected progress. Then she noticed that her husband was frowning: “Why aren’t you happy about it?”

“I’m thinking, Chuyan……” Lin Xueyuan pointed at his own temple while talking: “Something isn’t quite right in here.”

“What do you mean?”

Lin Xueyuan came closer to his wife and whispered to her ear.

Yue Yingying grew worried after he finished. “Why is he so silly? Letting a girl see him like that, what would she think of him?”

“That’s exactly what I’m thinking. It’s so silly.”

“Do you have a picture of him? Let me see it.”

“No……”

Yue Yingying was a little disappointed, but asked another question: “What do you think they’re watching now?”

This piqued Lin Xueyuan’s interest. “It must be a love story.”

-- --

Lin Xueyuan was right. Lin Chuyan and Xiang Nuan were watching a love story.

The name of the movie was <Flipped>, a classic love story between two teenagers, callow and innocent.

The family movie theatre in the basement was compact and dim. In a space like this, the darkness seemed to shrink the distance between people.

Lin Chuyan sat right next to Xiang Nuan. Illuminated by the movie screen, he turned to the side from time to time to check Xiang Nuan’s expression.

She seemed absent-minded. Her eyes weren’t focused on the screen.

Lin Chuyan was a little disappointed…...it seemed that Xiang Nuan’s mind would wander when she watched a love story with him.

In the movie, the boy and the girl were planting a tree together. As they shoveled dirt onto the roots of the tree, the boy’s hand overlapped over the girl’s.

Lin Chuyan’s heart slightly quivered and his hand began moving towards hers.

Xiang Nuan suddenly slapped her lap: “I remember now!”

Lin Chuyan was shocked by her.

“What do you remember now?” He asked in a low voice, with some frustration in the edges.

“I remember where I’ve seen your father before.”

“On TV? In a magazine?”

“No.” Xiang Nuan shook her head: “I saw him once at the bank of the lake at the main campus. He was on the phone at the time and very angry. He scared Waiwai Xuezhang and I. Your father apologized to us very politely and said that he’s angry because of his son. He said his son……” Xiang Nuan stopped in the middle of her sentence. She recalled the words his father had said: “He’s quite shameless.”

Lin Chuyan didn’t expect this to happen. He already felt that it was somewhat difficult to repair his image in Xiang Nuan’s mind. Now even his own father had made things more difficult for him.

Xiang Nuan found the entire thing rather humorous and giggled as she looked at Lin Chuyan: “No one knows a son better than his father.”

Lin Chuyan crushed the popcorn in his hand.

You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 76 Part 1

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 76 Part 1

“What about it?” Lu Sicheng supported his chin with one of his hands, with a faint smile on his face. “You’re nervous about going to a movie with me?”

Tong Yao was indeed nervous about that.

A single man and a single woman who were only just teammates going to the movies together. Tong Yao couldn’t stop herself from having any wild thoughts.

“What if people see us-- --”

“You’ve already played a third of the games in the regular league seasonal competition. Haven’t you gotten used to the fact that you’re a public figure already and will be constantly under public scrutiny?” Lu Sicheng said flatly. “The first time I let you hide behind me because you had just joined the team. But it won’t be the same for the second time……”

“Why?”

“You have to learn to cope with it, that’s the basics. You have to get used to the fact that you’re a public figure, then learn not to be influenced by public opinion-- --”

“Haven’t you always said ‘don’t make trouble, conduct yourself well’?” Tong Yao raised up her chopsticks. “That’s what you taught me before.”

“Even if you manage to do that, people will still say things about you.” Lu Sicheng gave Tong Yao a glance and pushed down her chopsticks. “For example, people will say you’ve gained weight during a stream.”

Tong Yao abruptly covered her face and asked, horrified. “Really?”

“See, this is exactly how you’d be influenced by public opinion. Wouldn’t you know whether you’ve gained weight or not yourself? Wait till you learn to confidently retort back ‘I haven’t gained weight, you’re just blind.’ Then you’re ready to graduate.”

“......Oh. But, what does all of this have anything to do with you and me going to a movie together?”

“It’s training for you and it’s free of charge.” Lu Sicheng said seriously. “Are you done? I bought tickets for the next showing. I don’t want to miss the beginning.”

Tong Yao thought it was already a lot of work training, playing skirmishes, and learning new champions at base. Now she had to receive mental training even when she was out of the base-- --On top of that, she had her salary deducted just because she wasn’t happy about someone-- --Why was it so hard to be a professional player?

“It’s hard to play professionally.”

“You want the crown, you have to bear the hardship.”

“Don’t look down, your crown will fall. Don’t cry, the bad guys will laugh?”

“What’s that?”

“..............................Nothing, I just made it up.”

“Don’t read those useless chicken soup books. Spend your time watching more famous matches-- --During the spring competition this year, which team was I against when I turned the game around by killing 5 enemies all at once?”

“......CK!”

“It’s Qing Dynasty?”

“......”

“You just kept guessing. You don’t even watch the matches during the spring competition to study the team that we’re going to face this week. You’re over inflated.”

“.......”

Tong Yao was being lectured all the way to the movie theatre.

They took the escalator up to the theatre. Lin Sicheng went ahead to fetch the tickets. Tong Yao checked the time and looked at the people who were waiting for the same movie in the lobby, She was still uneasy. She made an excuse to go to the bathroom and planned to wait till it was about showtime and then enter the theatre when most of the moviegoers had already gone in……

Those Sweet Times - Chapter 63 Part 1

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

Those Sweet Times
Chapter 63 Part 1

Lin Xueyuan really didn’t want to admit that the person with a weird hairdo in front of him was his son.

With a long face, Lin Xueyuan walked into the study. Then he turned sideways and looked at the other person in the room more clearly.

It seemed like Lin Chuyan’s father was rather short-tempered which made Xiang Nuan a little afraid of him. She greeted him in a tiny voice: “How are you, uncle.”

Lin Xueyuan: “......”

He remembered scaring this girl the first time they’d met and now, irritated by his son’s weird hairdo, he had scared the girl again…...embarrassed, Lin Xueyuan felt somewhat guilty. He only hoped that with a little luck, the girl might have forgotten their first meeting and didn’t recognize him.

While he was dealing with guilt, so was Xiang Nuan. She had come into their home and braided his son’s hair into so many braids…...No wonder Lin Xueyuan wasn’t too happy about it.

Lin Chuyan pulled off all the hair bands and casually combed his hair with his hand, returning his hair back to his original hairdo, though still somewhat messy.

Lin Chuyan was rather calm. “Dad, this is Xiang Nuan.”

“How are you?” Lin Xueyuan nodded to Xiang Nuan. He tried his best to speak gently and in a cordial voice, like a patient kindergarten teacher. Lin Xueyuan said: “I came in just to look for a hammer. Sorry, am I interrupting anything?”

“No, no, no. Not at all.” Xiang Nuan stammered. Strangely, Xiang Nuan wondered why her stammering felt so familiar……

Lin Chuyan bent down to pull his tool box out and opened it for his father. He curiously asked: “Why do you need a hammer?”

“There’s a kitten downstairs that got trapped inside a vase and can’t get itself out. I figure I’ll probably have to break the vase.” Lin Xueyuan had the hammer in hand and seemed to be quite the gentle person. “Auntie Zhang’s son is sick and in the hospital, she won’t be able to come and cook dinner for us. I’ll make the dinner for you…...Xiang Nuan have dinner here with us. Don’t be a stranger, let me know what you like to eat.”

“Thanks, uncle.”

“Alright, I’ll let you be. I have to rescue that dumb cat.”

After his father left, Lin Chuyan told Xiang Nuan: “My dad’s a good cook. But he doesn’t cook a lot because he’s too busy.”

Lin Xueyuan carried the hammer downstairs and the first thing he did was call his wife, Yue Yingying. “Wife, come home quick. Chuyan brought his girlfriend home!”

Yue Yingying was having afternoon tea with a female artist. The artist was quite talented and easy to get along with. Yue Yingying liked her very much and was planning to sign the artist with her gallery.

After receiving the phone call from her husband, Yue Yingying left the artist and hurried home.

A talented artist wasn’t as important as his son’s future wife.

Yue Yingying was well aware that at this point, it was only Chuyan’s wish that Xiang Nuan could be his girlfriend.

No matter what, Yue Yingying felt like she had to go meet this pretty girl as soon as possible.

-- --

Yue Yingying walked in the house and saw Lin Xueyuan sitting in the living room working on his laptop. The living room was a good place to watch people come and go in the house.

Yue Yingying took off her coat, put down her bag, then walked over and sat next to Lin Xueyuan. “What’s going on? That girl is still here?”

“Why did you come back so fast? Were you speeding?”

“No, no. I didn’t run into too many red lights…...Where’s Chuyan? Where’s that girl he brought back?”

Lin Xueyuan gave his wife a meaningful look: “They’re watching a movie.”

“Oh? Where? Outside or at home?”

“In the basement.”

Starlight Has No Past - Chapter 50 Part 1

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

Starlight Has No Past
Chapter 50 Part 1

To the surprise of everyone, Ye Qiao had pleaded guilty to all the charges against her. The trial continued smoothly. Though the Ye family had hired an expensive lawyer, Ye Qiao, due to the fact that she was a well known public figure and the bad example she had shown to the society, was still sentenced to a half of a year jail time for allowing others to use drugs in her home.

News about Ye Qiao’s trial and sentencing had occupied the entertainment news for quite some time. Zheng Xishuo posted on Weibo supporting Ye Qiao, believing her innocence, and was verbally attacked by many. His agency had to issue public apologies to calm the fans. Ye Qiao, however, had kept her silence.
During the whole trial, Ye Qiao only met with her uncle and said to him: “Grandma is too old for what’s happened. Try to comfort her more.”

Everyone who knew Ye Qiao well couldn’t understand why she had acted this way. Her placid attitude and pleading guilty to something she didn’t do was beyond the comprehension of her friends and family.

At the day of her sentencing, Zhou Tingsheng was sitting in the courtroom. Ye Qiao glanced at him with a smile. It was a look of affectionate and gratification, without any worry or sadness.
Ruan Feiyan was also in the courtroom, sitting in a remote corner. Faced with Ye Qiao’s calmness and unperturbed acceptance of her sentence, Ruan Feiyan couldn’t find an ounce of enjoyment from her revenge and grew even more resentful. After the court proceeding was over, she was the first one to rush out of the courtroom. There were several thuggish looking men waiting for her in a car. The man who looked like the leader of the group complained when he saw her red eyes. “Didn’t you want to punish that woman? She even pleaded guilty! What are you crying for!”

Ruan Feiyan bit her lip and asked: “Where’s Zhao Mo?”
“She disappeared after her 14 days of detention. Who knows where she is.”
“You guys haven’t looked for her? !” Ruan Feiyan widened her eyes: “You said that you would get her on drugs so we could take revenge on Ye Qiao. And then afterwards you’d give her some money so she could get detoxed!”
The man burst into laughter. “Young lady, how old are you this year? We aren’t a charity organization. She’s no use to us now. Why do we have to be responsible for her for the rest of her life?”

Ruan Feiyan was terribly upset. She looked around for a moment, then suddenly looked down to unbuckle her safety belt.
The man held her hand down. “Where are you going?”
“None of your business!” Ruan Feiyan shook off his hand and opened the door as she released her safety belt.
The moment she landed on the ground, the two men in the back seat had already come out of the car and were waiting for her. They pushed her against the car.
“What are you all doing? !”

The leader also got out of the car. “Hmph, you plan on just running away after using us to take care of your business? Who do you think you are? Who would do all this for you if you weren’t pretty and young? You really think you’re somebody by now.” As he was talking, he tried to pick her up and push her into the car. Ruan Feiyan violently struggled, knelt down on the ground and held the frame of the door to stay out of the car. One of the men slapped her on the face. The back of her head hit the door frame, her eyes scratched the edge of the old door frame and blood began oozing out.
She passed out from the pain and collapsed in the man’s hands.
The one who hit her panicked: “What…...what should we do?”

Another car came out from the garage just then. They were illuminated by the car’s headlights and the driver kept honking the horn at them.
-- -- “Hurry, drop her here, let’s go!”
Liang Zirao watched the men drove off in a hurry, then slammed on the brakes, her hands on the steering wheel were shaking. “Tingsheng…...over there, it looks like a person’s laying there.”

Zhou Tingsheng took a look through the car window. The person looked familiar. He went out of the car to take a closer look and found Ruan Feiyan. Her hair was all messed up and blood was flowing from her eyes down along her face and stained the collar of her white coat. She was unconscious. Zhou Tingsheng frowned, picked her up, and returned to the car. He instructed the shaking Liang Zirao. “Drive, to the hospital!”

Starlight Has No Past - Chapter 49 Part 3

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

Starlight Has No Past
Chapter 49 Part 3

In the southwest side of the Yang City, Zhou Tingsheng had been sending messages to Ye Qiao since 3 o’clock in the afternoon but had yet to receive any reply. He thought she was busy with work and had missed all the messages. After an hour, he started to call her cell phone but the phone was turned off. An ominous feeling entered Zhou Tingsheng’s mind. He drove to the hotel and checked with the hotel staff to learn that Ye Qiao hadn’t been back yet.
The outfit which Liang Zirao had sent was still hanging in the closet of their room, all by itself.

It was only a few minutes before the time he had promised to go home. Zhou Tingsheng drove towards his home, hoping that Ye Qiao was already there. He called Ye Qiao’s grandma, her uncle, and even Qianxi, but no one knew where she was.

The front door of the Zhou family house was wide open. Liang Zirao came up to greet Zhou Tingsheng with a smile when he walked in. She hung up his coat for him and looked behind him: “Where’s Ye Qiao? She didn’t come with you?”
Zhou Tingsheng stopped walking and asked: “She hasn’t come yet?”
Liang Zirao was surprised. “No, she hasn’t. Haven’t you contacted her?”
It was obvious from Zhou Tingsheng’s expression that he hadn’t.

With a gloomy face, Zhou Tingsheng’s eyes turned as dark as night. Liang Zirao comforted him: “She’s a movie star, sometimes she’ll be delayed because of paparazzi or something. Try to call her a few more times.”
Zhou Tingsheng put his coat back on. “I’ll go to her house and find her.”

Before he could walk out, his father’s loud and resonant voice came from inside: “Where are you going?”
Zhou Tingsheng didn’t stop to respond. His father stamped the floor with his cane. “You hardly ever come home and now you won’t have New Year’s Eve’s dinner with us. Do you still take me as your father?”
Zhou Tingsheng had no choice but to turn around to greet his father. “Dad.”
His father pointed in the direction of the dining room and ordered the housekeeper. “Everyone’s here. Let’s bring all the dishes in.”
It was in a tone of voice which brooked no objection.

Zhou Tingsheng stood still at the entrance. Liang Zirao quietly tugged his shirt. “It’s no use going over now. Don’t make dad angry. What if Ye Qiao comes later, are you going to let her see two angry faces?”
Liang Zirao pulled Zhou Tingsheng towards the dining room. After Zhou Tingsheng sat down at the table, his father cleared his throat and spoke. “Didn’t you say you were going to bring someone to see me? Where is she?”
Zhou Tingsheng kept his silence and was still making calls on his phone. Liang Zirao tried to smooth things over. “She’s on her way and should be here soon!”

Zhou Tingsheng’s father pursed his lips, his mustache quivered slightly. “Do you think that I’m too old to have a clear head. I know all about it. She’s Ye Qiao, what’s the big deal about it? The Ye family is a reputable one and they’re willing to let their granddaughter marry into our family. What’s there for me to object it? Why are you trying to hide it from me? Do you think I’m a stubborn old fool?”

Zhou Tingsheng finally looked up at his father, then turned to look at Liang Zirao. Liang Zirao gave him a smile and a verbal push. “What are you looking at! I’ve told dad everything. It took this many years for you to find one, did you think dad wanted you to be single for your entire life?” She whispered in his ears: “I didn’t expect it to be this easy myself. It looks like dad is also willing to let what had happened in the past go, it’s been so many years after all.”
“Really?” Zhou Tingsheng had come prepared to fight if necessary. It took him awhile to realize that he didn’t have to now.
However, the smile at the corner of his mouth only lasted for a few seconds.

The housekeeper had delivered all the dishes to the table and turned on the TV that hung on the dining room wall. On the screen, the news anchor was reporting the latest entertainment news. “We have breaking news. Today, at two o’clock this afternoon, the Yang City police department are currently investigating a new high profile drug case, the new actress Zhao Mo and the hottest lead actress Ye Qiao are both involved. The latter could face imprisonment up to half a year. Our reporters are tracking the story and will update us on the latest information……”

Several news flashes were also sent to Zhou Tingsheng’s cell phone at the same time. Rumors were flying on the internet; some said that Ye Qiao was a good friend of Zhao Mo, some said Ye Qiao was also involved in the previous scandal. There were pictures of Zhao Mo being posted, showing her lingering around nightclubs after the scandal. In the pictures, Zhao Mo looked confused and disoriented, like she was on drugs.
The name “Ye Qiao” was suddenly tarnished.

Fireworks began exploding in the air, welcoming the coming of the New Year.
Yet, what was in the past didn’t seem to have gone very far away.

You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 75 Part 2

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 75 Part 2

Five minutes later, Tong Yao and Lu Sicheng stopped at a ramen place-- --

They walked in the store and found it mostly empty, probably because it was a work day. They sat down at a table in the corner. Tong Yao opened the menu and swiftly ordered the ramen she wanted, then fixed her eyes on Lu Sicheng.

She stared at him for at least ten seconds.

Finally, Lu Sicheng couldn’t take it anymore and flipped the menu over. He said to the waiter with a dark face: “I’ll have the same. That’ll be all for now. Please hurry, someone is dying of hunger.”

Tong Yao made an ugly face at him. Amused, the waiter quickly took down the order, then turned to walk away. He very considerately left one of the menus on the table for Lu Sicheng-- --Lu Sicheng gave Tong Yao a look as if to say “are you satisfied now?” Lu Sicheng opened the menu again and slowly ordered a few more side dishes……

A little while later, the side dishes came first, before the ramen.

Lu Sicheng pulled the chopsticks apart: “Eat some of these first for now. Don’t stare at me like that, no one is keeping you from eating.”

Tong Yao kept her silence but moved her eyes away from Lu Sicheng-- --After eating a piece of chicken wing, the feeling of hunger disappeared and her craving for food calmed down. She took a quick peek at the man sitting across: somehow he didn’t look so annoying now.

After the ramen arrive, they quietly ate their noodles-- --

Ever since Tong Yao had her pay reduction, she hadn’t eaten a large piece of meat for a long while unless someone else was paying for it. She buried her head in the ramen bowl, thoroughly enjoying it. The man across from her suddenly put the chopsticks down to swipe his cell phone. He casually asked: “What do we do after lunch?”

Tong Yao was slow to realize that Lu Sicheng was talking to her: “Go back to base……”

She was interrupted before she could finish saying “and play ranked games.”

Lu Sicheng: “There’s no training today. I don’t feel like playing games. Maybe go watch a movie……<Independence Day 2> just came out and I haven’t seen it. I’ve been waiting for a long time and if Little Fatty gets to see it first, he’ll spoil the plot for me again. This time, I’ll go see it before him. You’re coming with me.”

Tong Yao: “......”

…...What was going on?

They were all declarative sentences from beginning to end.

…………………………..What was that? ? ?

Tong Yao calmly slurped the noodles into her mouth and thought about it: “Go to a movie? Just the two of us?”

“En.” Lu Sicheng didn’t even raise his head and continued to tap on his cell phone: “There happens to be a newly opened movie theatre on the top floor of this mall…...What was it called? Oh, Wantai Theatre. I got tickets.”

Tong Yao: “......”

Tong Yao: “Just the two of us are going to watch a movie? What’s going on?”

Lu Sicheng: “What do you mean? Isn’t it normal for two people to watch a movie? Do you always watch a movie all by yourself?”

Tong Yao shook her head and was going to say that she would always go with her girlfriends. But on second thought, Jinyang would never want to watch a foreign movie. When she watched Transformers with her, she had to patiently explain everything to Jinyang: The colored ones are good people and all the black metal ones are the bad guys. The good ones fight with the bad ones and are trying to drive the bad ones off of Earth……

Tong Yao then nodded: “It’s quite nice to watch a movie all by myself. I don’t have to worry about interacting with the person next to me.”

Lu Sicheng was a little taken aback by her answer, but soon he smiled: “I won’t bug you.”

Tong Yao looked at the slightly curved up lips and nodded: “Oh, then it’ll be alright.”

Lu Sicheng put down his cell phone after Tong Yao agreed and Tong Yao continued to focus on her ramen-- --After a few more bites, she began to feel that something was off: The point shouldn’t be whether there’s anyone bothering her at movie!

Tong Yao put down her chopsticks: “Captain, you’ve tricked me again.”

Lu Sicheng: “En.” Then he grabbed the cell phone on the table, without looking up, and started to swipe his phone again while asking: “What have I done to you?”

Tong Yao: “You coaxed me into seeing this movie with you.”

Lu Sicheng’s fingers paused on his cell phone: “Do I need to coax you for you to go to a movie with me?”

Tong Yao: “......”

Lu Sicheng: “Then you have a big problem. I’m really sad.”

Tong Yao: “......I’m sorry.”

Tong Yao: “..................................................”

Tong Yao: “................................Lu Sicheng, I don’t want to talk with you ever again.”

Those Sweet Times - Chapter 62 Part 2

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

Those Sweet Times
Chapter 62 Part 2

Since Lin Chuyan had made fun of her wavy hairdo, Xiang Nuan was quite uneasy about showing it in front of Lin Chuyan. She looked at him and asked: “Do you have a hair band like this in your home?”

Lin Chuyan went to his parents’ room and returned with a bag full of hair bands from his mother’s dresser. He even considerately brought a small comb. He didn’t understand that a comb was unnecessary to making a ponytail.

As Xiang Nuan was pulling her hair up, Lin Chuyan stared at her. This made Xiang Nuan feel uneasy. Her face felt warm and she wasn’t sure whether her face was blushing. After she re-tied her hair, she looked at the extra hair bands and the little comb and suddenly came up with a great idea.

“Lin Chuyan.” Xiang Nuan called him with a smile.

“What?” He smiled back.

“It’s a good time for us to do some meaningful things.”

“What things?” Lin Chuyan asked in a small voice; he could hear the beat of his own heart.

“Let me braid your hair?”

“......”

Lin Chuyan had a weird expression on his face. He absolutely refused to accept braiding his hair as a meaningful thing to do.

“Just let me braid your hair.” Xiang Nuan reached over and tugged on Lin Chuyan’s sleeve: “I really like to braid hair, but my mom won’t let me braid hers. Please……”

How could he refuse her after she begged with such a sweet voice? He couldn’t.

Lin Chuyan sat down on a chair with Xiang Nuan standing behind him. He lowered his head and sighed lightly: “Now, who’s whose slave after all.”

“What did you say?”

“Nothing.”

“Lin Chuyan, what kind of hairstyle do you like?”

“I like the hairdo I have now.”

“Pick another one.”

Lin Chuyan completely gave up: “Whatever you like.”

Xiang Nuan made five little braids with Lin Chuyan’s hair, three on the top and two at the back. His hair was too short to make any fancy braids; she had done her best.

Too bad there wasn’t a mirror in Lin Chuyan’s study. She used her cell phone to take a picture to show Lin Chuyan. In the picture, Lin Chuyan looked quite despondent.

“Delete that picture.” He said.

“Alright, deleting, deleting.” Xiang Nuan noticed that Lin Chuyan seemed quite depressed and tried to console him: “I’ve done a bad thing to you, now you can do a bad thing to me in return. Then we’ll be even.”

Lin Chuyan laughed and looked her straight into her eyes: “You better think twice about what you just said.”

Xiang Nuan was taken aback.

Lin Chuyan: “Are you having indecent ideas?”

Xiang Nuan thought about what she had just said. She didn’t have any other intentions when she said it but after being reminded by Lin Chuyan, she realized that…...what’s a bad thing…...She couldn’t continue thinking about it……

Her face turned red and she threw the comb away: “Lin Chuyan, you’re nuts.”

Lin Chuyan licked the corner of his lips. Looking at her red face, he had the urge to do some bad things to her but reign those desires in.

The main thing that stopped him was all the little braids on his head.

Lin Chuyan couldn’t stand to kiss the girl he liked with five little braids on his head. If he did, it would be his first kiss and if he did it under this condition, he didn’t want to constantly remember what happened to his hair.

Both of them became quiet, it became quite awkward in the room.

But awkwardness didn’t last long however, the door of the study was suddenly pushed open from the outside.

They looked towards the doorway in shock and the person at the doorway returned the look. The man seemed to be frightened of the braids and cursed: “Damn! What are you!”

The loud and resonant voice scared Xiang Nuan. She found it odd that somehow this man, from his look to his voice, all seemed familiar to her.

Lin Chuyan slowly pulled all the hair bands off from his head, one after the other, as he called the man`: “Dad.”

You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 75 Part 1

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 75 Part 1

Tong Yao and Lu Sicheng left the market around noon.

The aftermath from learning the true nature of that jungler made Tong Yao hungry-- --But she was embarrassed to tell Lu Sicheng and just looked out the window of the car……

She could feel her stomach churning.

Seeing that they were near the base, Tong Yao tried to recall whether there was still beef and vegetables left in the refrigerator that she could put in her instant noodles. She could add an egg and a slice of cheese…...The more Tong Yao thought about it, the hungrier she felt. She wanted the bowl of noodles so badly that she almost began to drool-- --

But something unexpected happened.

As they were almost at base, Lu Sicheng suddenly turned onto a road going away from the base-- --

Tong Yao: “......?”

“Where are we going?” Seeing her instant noodles grow further, Tong Yao grew anxious: “Cheng Ge, our base is in the other direction. Why are you going this way? Did you make a wrong turn?”

“No, I didn’t.”

“How can that be?”

“I haven’t made a wrong turn.” Lu Sicheng said: “Sit tight. Are there thorns on your seat or are you incapable of sitting still?”

Tong Yao threw herself back into the seat: “...........................Lu Sicheng, where exactly are you going?”

She addressed him with his full name.

With both hands on the steering wheel, the corners of Lu Sicheng’s lips curved up but he didn’t correct her. It was fun to hear her calling his name through gritted teeth.

He decided to tease her a little and lazily said: “I’m going to find a place to exchange you for some wine-- --”

“I’m damn hungry right now and just want to go back to the base so I can eat a bowl of steaming hot instant noodles. I don’t feel like joking around with you. So before I pound you into dirt and get your red buff for a month no matter what match it is, you better speak nicer to me.”

“......”

Lu Sicheng glanced at his passenger as if he was seeing a crazy person. Noting that she was serious about what she was saying and looking as if she was ready to jump and bite at him at any moment, Lu Sicheng paused for a moment before speaking in a normal tone: “I’m going to eat. I’m hungry too. This morning when I took out the coke from the fridge, I noticed that there wasn’t anything left in it. You want to hurry back to base so you can mix your noodles with cat food cans?”

“......”

“You finally washed your hair and put some makeup on, is it worth it just going to the market?”

“If it’s not worth it to just go to the market, then is it worth it if I die of hunger on the road?”

“......” Hunger had driven Tong Yao to be braver than she had never been before. Displeasure was written all over her face. Lu Sicheng gave up arguing with her. “What do you want to eat?”

“Noodles.”

“Don’t girls all like to eat Japanese food or something……”

“Girls? What’s that? I want to eat noodles. Noodles with steaming hot soup and meat and eggs. If there’s a gender that loves to eat noodles in the world, then I’m that gender.”

“......”

Lu Sicheng parked the car at a shopping center near their base. He hung the plastic bag on the rear view mirror and punched a hole in it. Lu Sicheng patted the steering wheel: “Get out, let’s go eat.”

Tong Yao looked at the goldfish swimming inside the bag: “On the news they said that you can’t leave pets in the car by themselves. Do goldfish count as pets?”

Lu Sicheng: “Well what am I supposed to do when I take the famished pet for food?”

Tong Yao: “......”

Lu Sicheng: “The fish can’t talk so it’s in a disadvantageous position, satisfied? Let me teach you a life lesson. When you’re in an advantageous position, just be happy and don’t say too much-- --Now, get out of the car, otherwise you can stay in the car with the fish.”

Tong Yao: “......”

Tong Yao puffed up her cheeks and kept murmuring something as she released her seat belt and got out of the car. Lu Sicheng also got out of the car and led Tong Yao out of the parking lot.

Those Sweet Times - Chapter 62 Part 1

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

Those Sweet Times
Chapter 62 Part 1

Lin Chuyan didn’t bother to tell Xiang Nuan that it didn’t matter where she chose to stay.

Lin Chuyan took Xiang Nuan back to where he and his parents were living, a villa in the suburb at the foot of a hill, near a river.

The area was full of beautiful villas, dotted with bamboo and pine trees. Patches of plum and peach trees surrounded the area. Some of the peach trees already had flower buds on them.

Lin Chuyan explained that the area was comparatively warmer than the other areas of Nanshan City. Spring usually came much earlier than other places in the city and in a few days, there would be wild peach blossoms to see. It would be an endless pink sea.

Xiang Nuan was looking forward to seeing it.

Lin Chuyan parked the car and led Xiang Nuan into the house. His parents weren’t home at the moment. He let her sit in the living room, then brought out some drinks and snacks.

Noticing Xiang Nuan was eyeing her surroundings, Lin Chuyan asked: “Would you like to have a tour of the house?”

“Sure.”

Lin Chuyan took her around the house, then showed her the fish kept by the family, his father’s antiques, and his mother’s painting collection. For the latter two things, Xiang Nuan knew most of them in detail, being more knowledgeable about the topic than Lin Chuyan.

Lin Chuyan was a little surprised and gave her a look with raised eyebrows.

“My father also likes these things.” Xiang Nuan explained: “One time I broke a snuff bottle, he almost hit me.”

“Oh? Did he hit you?”

“No.”

Lin Chuyan grinned: “How would he have the heart to.”

His smile was so warm and gentle that he truly looked like an amiable person…...Xiang Nuan was a little dumbfounded by the sight.

Afterwards, Lin Chuyan showed her his study room.

His study was spacious and had three book cases. Two of the book cases were full of books. Xiang Nuan felt like Lin Chuyan was trying to make himself look like someone who read often and sighed: “Lin Chuyan, you can really pretend.”

Lin Chuyan thought that he probably had an image problem in Xiang Nuan’s mind.

“I’ve read all of these books.” He said.

“Don’t try to explain it. I understood.”

The third bookcase had some random items and displays; there was a wooden boat, airplane, tank, windmill, machine gun, and others.

Xiang Nuan went closer to examine them. They were all very delicate and lifelike, but there were still traces that they were handmade. They didn’t look like something bought from a store. She asked Lin Chuyan: “Did you make all these things?”

“En.”

“Are they models you bought then put them together?”

“No, I made them myself. I buy pieces of wood and then carve all the pieces.”

Xiang Nuan quietly turned her head to look at him after hearing what he just said. Skepticism was drawn all over her face.

Lin Chuyan was speechless. He pulled out a toolbox from the bottom shelf of the bookcase and opened it. Inside the box were all the tools he used; it was filled with planer tools, files, small mallet, rulers……

Xiang Nuan was shocked by all the tools: “Lin Chuyan, you must’ve been a carpenter in your previous life.”

Lin Chuyan looked at her with a sparkle in his eyes and softly said: “What do you like? I can make it for you.”

Perhaps because of the way he spoke, Xiang Nuan had a sweet and warm feeling in her heart. She was a little embarrassed by how easily she became infatuated with him and lowered her head: “You can make anything?”

“I can try.”

“Then can you make a little house for me?”

“Sure.”

Xiang Nuan felt like she really lacked a backbone. Why did one word from Lin Chuyan make her feel like she was in love.

She turned around and walked over to the other bookshelf and pulled out a book called <The Future of AI> and sat down at the desk, pretending to read it.

Xiang Nuan read through the first page and noticed that her ponytail had gotten loose. She touched the back of her head and discovered that the hair band had broken off. She paused, looked up, and saw Lin Chuyan was watching her.

She was a little embarrassed.

Starlight Has No Past - Chapter 49 Part 2

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

Starlight Has No Past
Chapter 49 Part 2

Surprised by the sudden outburst, Ye Qiao tightly clasped her cellphone. She had heard stories of people being set up and ending in a miserable condition in this business. Many became mentally ill because they couldn’t handle the fall from the peak of their careers. But it looked to her that Zhao Mo was in an even worse condition. Ye Qiao began considering whether she should call someone for help. But who could she call?

As Ye Qiao was mulling over who to call, tears suddenly began falling from Zhao Mo’s eyes: “He didn’t want me anymore. I just wanted to get ahead in this business. Does a person with no talent have to be a nobody all her life? I just want to fight it my way…...What did I do wrong?” Her eyes suddenly turned vicious looking and she raised her voice: “Now you have everything! Why do you still have to keep stepping on me? Just because I have touched the man you like?”
Her eyes were out of focus. Ye Qiao was sure by now that Zhao Mo was mentally disturbed. She walked over to touch Zhao Mo’s shoulder: “Calm down. I’ve never done anything to harm you and I won’t in the future. If you need help, let me know and I’ll do whatever I can to help.”

Zhao Mo brushed off Ye Qiao’s hand. As if she had suddenly regained her senses, she wiped her tears off and anxiously said: “I don’t need your help. Where’s the bathroom? I need to go to the bathroom.”
Ye Qiao pointed in the direction of the bathroom. Zhao Mo held her bag in her arms and rushed into the bathroom.

Ye Qiao shook her head and started to search for psychological consultation services in Yang City on her phone. She had just opened the search engine’s web page when she received a call from an unfamiliar number.
Ye Qiao answered the call to the cold voice of a young girl from the other side: “Hello, is this Ye Qiao?”
Ye Qiao was silent for two seconds: “Ruan Feiyan?”
“It’s me. I didn’t expect you would recognize my voice.” Ruan Feiyan snickered. But as Ruan Feiyan remembered when Ye Qiao had said that her heart could recognize its daughter, the cynical smile disappeared from Ruan Feiyan’s face. Her voice grew colder: “How about it? You like the gift I sent you?”

“What are you talking about?”
“It hasn’t arrived yet? Ha, you’ll get it soon enough.”
Before she finished her sentence, the doorbell at Ye Qiao’s home started to ring, like an omen of her fate.
Ye Qiao paused for a moment before she moved towards the door to open it.

There were four policemen standing outside the door. They showed their identification to Ye Qiao: “Are you Ye Qiao? We have reason to suspect that you’re involved in drug related crimes, please assist us in our search of your residence.”
At this moment, Ruan Feiyan’s voice came from the cell phone: “This is what you owe me. I want you to have a taste of what my mom went through!”
The call abruptly ended. The policemen led a police dog past by Ye Qiao and went directly in the direction of the bathroom.

Soon they brought Zhao Mo out of the bathroom with a policeman on either side of her, each holding an arm. There was a syringe left on the bathroom floor. Zhao Mo’s eyes were even more out of focus than before, immersed in an illusory high. When she passed by Ye Qiao, her lips curved up with a rancorous smile.
The very next second, a pair of bright silver handcuffs landed on Ye Qiao’s wrists. An austere voice sounded next to her ear: “Ms. Ye, you’re now a suspect for providing a place for drug use. Please come with us.”
