You’re My Belated Happiness
Chapter 17 Part 1

Ruan Yu didn’t know what to say.

She thought to herself: sure enough, it was easy to get into trouble when face to face.

She then hurriedly said: “I’ve done some research! There’s an article about you online.”

It was a good excuse. But she had pushed herself into another difficult position.

Xu Huaisong asked with a faint smile: “Researching me, what for?”

Ruan Yu suddenly felt the plate full of lard rice cakes become burning hot in her hand.

She drily blinked her eyes a couple of times: “It’s…… just trying to get a basic understanding of my lawyer. I also knew that Mr. Liu’s a Hang City native.” She handed over the white plate afterwards with a pair of silver chopsticks: “Eat while it’s still hot.”

It was an abrupt change of topic. Xu Huaisong cast his eyes down as he received the plate and went back to the couch.

Ruan Yu hesitantly touched her nose and sat down across from him.

He had good table manners and slowly chewed the rice cake slowly. His expression remained the same. It was hard to tell whether he thought the cake tasted good or not.

Ruan Yu silently wondered whether the cake suited his taste. The next moment, Xu Huaisong swallowed and looked up to ask: “You want some?”

Was it because she looked too eager? She hurriedly waved her hand and looked back. Then she helplessly watched Xu Huaisong eat all dozen or so rice cakes.

Though he ate gently, his appetite didn’t appear to be gentle at all.

Ruan Yu swallowed and put the empty plate back in the kitchen. When she came back, she saw Xu Huaisong was going through the documents.

Seeing her, he looked up to say: “I haven’t read it.”

“You……” She paused: “Were you very busy these past few days?”

“En. I didn’t turn on WeChat.”

So it wasn’t that he purposely didn’t reply to her like she had thought. She didn’t think Xu Huaisong would be this petty.

Ruan Yu was more relaxed by now: “Actually, there’s no rush for the case. Public outrage has subsided a lot now and the court date is still far away. There’s no use finishing the counter comparison columns now. You can go back to rest first.”

Xu Huaisong didn’t say anything and continued to go through the documents.

Seeing no response from him, Ruan Yu didn’t say anything more. Half an hour later, he closed the documents.

Xu Huaisong couldn’t keep his eyes open anymore.

He understood the principle of sustainable development. There would be ample time in days to come and he shouldn’t drain the pond to catch all the fish in one sitting.

He closed his eyes: “Please call Liu Mao for me to come pick me up. I’m going to nap for a while.”

Ruan Yu said ok and sent a message to Liu Mao. Then she was going to ask Xu Huaisong whether he wanted to lie down on the long couch next to them but when 1she looked up, she found him soundly asleep again.

She walked over and squatted down next to him, then called to him in a tiny voice: “Mr. Xu?”

There was no response.

Being a lawyer was truly a high energy-consuming profession.

Nevermind trying to move him to the long couch, she would just let him lean back on this couch then. She went to the bedroom to fetch a newly washed thin blanket to put on him. She then sat back down on the sofa across and also closed her eyes to rest. When she opened her eyes again, Xu Huaisong was gone.

Oops, she had also fallen asleep.

Being a writer is also a high energy-consuming profession.

She was about to pick up her phone to see whether Xu Huaisong had sent any messages. But when she looked up, she saw a note placed on the coffee table.

There were two dancing characters on the note-- --I’m off.

Ruan Yu looked down at the thin blanket on her and began to somewhat space out.
