You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 134 Part 4

Tong Yao stood up, took off her earphones, and went to shake hands with Huawei’s players. After she went to the front of the stage with her teammates to bow to the audience, Tong Yao turned to take a look at the headshot of the MVP of this match, her own headshot. She paused for a moment and mumbled: “They just want to interview me, that’s all.”

Little Fatty gave her a sympathetic look: “Only you have all the drama. Who else can they interview?”

Lu Sicheng lifted his hand to pat Tong Yao’s head.

While her teammates gathered their equipment and walked backstage, Tong Yao had already sat down at the interview area-- --There was a crowd under the stage. Tong Yao wondered how many among them were thinking of throwing knives at her head?

The host: [Congratulations to ZGDX for winning this match. And congratulations to Tong Yao for winning the MVP for two of the rounds!]

Tong Yao politely smiled: “Thanks.”

The host: [How do you feel winning this match after coming back to in-group matches?]

Tong Yao: “I’m feeling pretty good. Last week after we lost to our neighbor, we were all a bit nervous and depressed. After this win, we should feel a bit relieved.”

The host: [We can all see that the way ZGDX played this week is somewhat different from before. Cheng Ge doesn’t seem to be the only one who’s giving out commands. Please tell us whether ZGDX has made some adjustment in this area……]

Tong Yao nodded: “Right, there’s been some adjustment. We’re still in the adjustment period now, but everyone’s very enthusiastic about it……”

The host laughed: [Is the team going to have a new leader?]

There was a commotion among the fans down stage.

Tong Yao smiled again and glanced at Lu Sicheng who was still bending over to gather her stuff over at the competition area: “No, our daddy is still our daddy. To change the leader, it’ll have to be over his dead body.”

Tong Yao noticed Lu Sicheng had paused in the middle of putting things into her bag. He seemed to have looked up at her direction. The smile on her lips deepened……

The host at this time had noticed the interaction between the two. He realized that the time had come, he sat up straighter and put on a more serious expression: [Smiling, actually, everyone is concerned about the incident where ZGDX’s captain had apologized to his teammates and it’s said that you were the one who was behind it…… We all know that you’ve received a lot of questions. Please tell us, regarding this matter, do you have anything you would like to say to the fans and your teammates?]

Tong Yao: “......................................”

This was probably the only question the host wanted to ask her for as the MVP for two rounds of the match.

Tong Yao thought for a while and also grew more serious. She looked at the audience-- --It so happened that she noticed a particular fan-- --She didn’t know who the person was-- --The fan raised up the LCD board in her hand with these words written on it: “Go for it, Smiling. We’ll always support you.”

Looking at the board, Tong Yao seemed to receive silent encouragement. She slightly straightened her back and earnestly answered: “Sitting here today, I don’t even know myself how I should answer your question and to what capacity. Though I’ve only played half of a season and been a teammate for half a season, I think I should know what exactly ZGDX and Lu Sicheng want…… Ah, actually it’s not hard to know. I know many of you right here also know about it.”

Tong Yao stopped for a moment to look at the crowd under the stage. She knew there were numerous eyes fixed on her face-- --

“One day, to be able to stand on top of that stage with the Five-star Red Flag draping over our bodies and lift up that trophy we’ve all dreamed of-- --But before that happens, even if the path is paved with thorns or burning sand, as the captain of ZGDX who everyone trusts and carries everyone’s hope, he should endure, he’s willing to endure, and he also must endure all of that.”

The whole arena suddenly quieted down.

Even the host kept his silence and didn't interject.

Tong Yao switched the microphone to the other hand. The hand originally holding the microphone naturally landed on her lap and quietly wiped against her lap without being noticed by anyone.

“We earnestly ask some of our fans that we all understand your inclination to protect Lu Sicheng, but in esports, performance is everything-- --You have to distinguish between the Lu Sicheng who shines on the competition stage as a player that you admire or just the tall and handsome Lu Sicheng…… Uhr, I know this isn’t very friendly towards esports fangirls online. But many fangirls are trying hard to change how people perceive them. I feel that some of you should think this over, while those girls are trying hard playing ranked matches, watching competitions, analyzing strategies, and sending private messages to our official Weibo site to voice their opinions, what are you all doing during that time?”

“......That’s all for now. I’ll probably get scolded again in a while. But let me say this beforehand, if my words offend anyone,” Tong Yao took a deep breath: “I don’t regret it.”

Tong Yao returned the microphone back to the host, jumped off the chair, and strode towards backstage with her chin slightly raised up and with a straight back.

  6. I’ve had mixed feelings about TY simply because of her obsession with gossip and how she’s easily affected by them. But thing speech right here showed me how much she’s matured. I love it!

    1. At the beginning of this novel she was very easily affected by social media; I think that’s a very natural thing though. Anxiety comes when people constantly criticize you. But she’s grown and after a few times she’s been trolled on the internet by haters she’s learned to never take them seriously because they’re all ignorant. She’s learned this through herself and Lu Sicheng. Lu Sicheng was a big help in the matter. And, I don’t think she’s obsessed with gossip but actually doesn’t care, or rather the gossipers are obsessed with her, she can’t run away but she can sure block them. Just like this chapter and some previous shows. She’s grown as a strong and wise girl and you can see it especially if you reread this for the second time. The character development is just immaculate.
