Starlight Has No Past
Chapter 37 Part 3

Grandma grumbled outside: “When did they go out? Why haven’t they come back after such a long time?”
Auntie Zong replied: “They’ve been out for half an hour now. They’ll probably be back soon. Qianxi hasn’t gotten up yet, should I go get her so we can all have breakfast together?”
As grandma mumbled an en, the door to Ye Qiao’s room suddenly jolted with a loud thud. It became unusually quiet outside Ye Qiao’s door.

Zhou Tingsheng went blank, trying to discern the direction of the footsteps outside. He grew more and more tense as they drew closer, until they finally stopped right at the other side of the door.
Someone lightly tapped the door a couple of times and called her name in a low voice: “Qiaoqiao?”
Grandma’s voice seemed too weak to get a response from inside. Then Auntie Zong gave the door three hard knocks and called her: “Girl, are you up yet?”

Ye Qiao was taken aback by the sudden voice and almost lost her balance. The two outside the door didn’t hear a response inside, but they could clearly hear someone gasp at the other side of the door.
The sound of the gasp accompanied by the long, suppressed sigh from a man.

Shocked, grandma began to suspect that perhaps she had just imagined the noise. She looked at Auntie Zong, seeing the stupefied expression on the latter’s face. Grandma realized that she hadn’t imagined it. Auntie Zhong was embarrassed and blushed. She waved her hands and stammered a few words: “Well, no one answered our call. It’s probably the wind…...Shall I get Qianxi first? She likes to sleep in and won’t make it to breakfast if I don’t call her now.”
It was probably the first time in grandma’s seventy plus years of life that she’d ever encountered such a situation. She gave a stilted reply: “Alright, alright.”

However, they didn’t expect Qianxi had gotten out of bed early this morning out of excitement. She ran up the stairs, hungry: “Auntie Zong, why is there no breakfast yet?”
The two elders looked quite uneasy. One replied: “It’s almost done, almost done. Only the porridge isn’t done yet. Go wait at the dinner table.” The other said: “Don’t rush up the stairs like that. Be careful or you’ll fall.” Both ladies dragged Qianxi downstairs, nagging her all the while.
Facing two human walls, Qianxi was forced to step back down the stairs as if there was an evil spirit or ghost behind the two. Qianxi was terribly confused: “......”

When Ye Qiao came down, she saw Qianxi sitting at the table with a black cloud over her head.
Qianxi dug her brain trying to figure out what had happened this morning. She didn’t think she had done anything wrong to irritate her grandma. She concluded that it was probably because she had gotten up too early and grandma happened to get up on the wrong side of the bed. It was just bad luck for her!

After Zhou Tingsheng came downstairs, he went to the kitchen to wash a basket full of winter jujube. He sat down right next to Ye Qiao and picked a jujube to feed her. Ye
Qiao gave him a look and refused. Zhou Tingsheng forced the jujube into her mouth.
Qianxi didn’t expect to see something so intimate between the two and took her own bowl and shifted to a seat further away.

The sour taste of the jujube irritated Ye Qiao’s sensitive teeth. She frowned: “It’s sour.” Zhou Tingsheng caught the jujube Ye Qiao spit out and handed her a glass of milk. Ye Qiao didn’t want to drink the milk and gave him a stare. Zhou Tingsheng innocently said: “Sure you don’t want to drink it? It works better than water.” Ye Qiao coldly said: “Take it away.” But the sour taste lingered in her mouth and she grabbed Qianxi’s orange juice and drank it.
Qianxi watched a hand swiftly take her orange juice away before she could react to it. She widened her eyes-- --it’s so unfair!

Zhou Tingsheng chuckled and took out a few jujubes from the basket, then pushed the whole basket to Qianxi: “You want some?”
Qianxi took the bribe and started to eat jujubes while taking a few sneaky glances at her cousin.
Somehow she felt like everyone in this house this morning wasn’t acting normally.
