Starlight Has No Past
Chapter 13 Part 2

Zhou Tingsheng picked up Ye Qiao’s hand to check the bite wound from Desa.
Her hand was lean but smooth. He raised his eyebrows: “Is rabies contagious?”
Ye Qiao looked as if she was in a trance.
Zhou Tingsheng stopped joking around. He waved his hand in front of Ye Qiao
to see the response of her pupils and touched her forehead to check her temperature.
They were all normal. But when he touched her forehead with the back of his hand,
he could feel a slight tremor of her body: “Do you have your medicine with you?”
“I just took some.” The two pills she had taken on the taxi to the theatre were
immunosuppressants, which wasn’t helpful in relieving her current symptom.
Zhou Tingsheng looked around the quiet showroom: “Let’s go out and get
some fresh air?”

Outside the theatre room was a dimly lit hallway without any windows. Ye Qiao
walked all the way to the outside of the movie theatre, from a dark corner into
brightness. They went into a bakery just outside of the theatre. Zhou Tingsheng
bought a hot drink for her. He touched her fingers as he was handing the drink to
her: “Your hands are cold. Should we go to the hospital?”
Ye Qiao felt somewhat better after breathing in some fresh air: “No need.” She
apologetically smiled: “I just met with my stepmother. I always have some sort
of physical reaction after meeting her. We’re probably just not compatible.”
Zhou Tingsheng, wearing a black leather jacket, sat on the sofa in the fragrant
bakery and casually concluded: “She’s a stepmother after all.”
Even though she knew it was hard to carry a serious conversation with him, she
couldn’t stop herself from confiding in him: “Do you know the feeling of having a
dysfunctional family? It’s like a handicap. Everyone else has healthy hands and
feet, but I don’t.”
Unexpectedly, Zhou Tingsheng nodded: “I’m a little better than you. At least my
dad didn’t marry again.”

Ye Qiao didn’t expect she would receive a sincere response from him. She raised
her cup to touch his, with another rueful smile on the corner of her lips: “We’re on
the same boat.”
Suddenly, Zhou Tingsheng stretched out his hand to touch her forehead lightly.
Ye Qiao was surprised by the sudden move and asked: “What’s wrong? Do I have
something on my forehead?”
“No.” Zhou Tingsheng’s hand stayed on her forehead, as if it was a light caress
between lovers. Ye Qiao noticed through the corners of her eyes that there was a
group of young people noisily passing by outside the glass window. They looked
quite familiar. Zhou Tingsheng quirked up his lips: “You don’t want to be recognized
by others, do you?”

Ye Qiao realized the group might be people she knew. From the gaps between
his fingers, she saw Zheng Xishuo and Shen Ting among the group of people.
They probably just had a bit too much to drink and were high in spirits, boisterously
walking on the street.
Zhou Tingsheng used his fingers to smooth out some strand of her hair near her
temples: “Isn’t that your assistant?”
“She isn’t looking this way.” After they had passed, Zhou Tingsheng put down his
arm and asked: “When you were dating that guy, were you also playing hide and
seek on the street?”
Ye Qiao curled her lips, thought about “that guy,” and indifferently replied: “There
was no need for that. I wasn’t famous at that time, I had to accommodate him all
the time. Didn’t you hear what Xu Yinshan said the other day? I moved up because
of him.” She lightly chuckled: “Ha, when I first met him, he was only the assistant
director running errands for Director Lai.”
Zhou Tingsheng shamelessly said: “So you’re an expert at enticing diamonds in
the rough?”

Ye Qiao sneered at him: “Who are you talking about? Yourself?”
