You’re My Belated Happiness
Chapter 63 Part 1

Xu Huaisong and Ruan Yu stayed in the hospital for the next few days.

Xu’s father had been receiving treatment for adapting to a new environment since two months ago. He was well prepared for the transfer and his physical condition was much better than expected. Aside from being less talkative, he didn’t have much resistance to the new caregiver. For the first three days he wasn’t very cooperative, but he gradually got used to the caregiver afterwards.

Occasionally, he didn’t follow instructions and usually Xu Huaisong could calm him down.

Xu Huaisong and Ruan Yu took turns staying in the ward to keep an eye on his father. Xu Huaisong still had jet lag and the two of them took turns sleeping.

The day that Tao Rong was scheduled to come to Hang City happened to be the court day of Wei Jin’s case in Su City. Xu Huaisong went to the court hearing and planned to bring his mother back with him after the hearing.

Only Ruan Yu and the caregiver, Auntie Wu, were staying at the hospital in Hang City.

Ruan Yu was somewhat nervous in the beginning. Whenever Xu’s father frowned or rubbed his stomach, she would run to the doctor for advice. After they ate lunch and Xu’s father looked like he was in a good mood, she finally felt a little at ease knowing that Xu Huaisong should be back soon.

After lunch, Xu Yin didn’t take a nap right away. Auntie Wu turned on the TV which happened to show a cartoon.

Though Xu’s father didn’t understand what was showing on the TV, the colorful pictures would usually make him happy and laugh.

Ruan Yu picked up a glass to pour some hot water for him. Then she sat next to the bed and asked: “Uncle Xu, do you want some apples? I'll peel them for you.”

Xu Yin took a look at her and didn’t seem to understand what she was saying. But because he was in a good mood, he nodded with a laugh anyway.

Ruan Yu picked a few apples from the fruit basket and prepared to go to the coffee room on this floor to wash the apples.

Auntie came up: “Let me do it.”

Ruan Yu waved her hand: “It’s alright. I don’t have anything to do anyway.” She then noticed that the cartoon had finished and it was showing commercials on the TV now. She told Auntie Wu: “Please change the channel for him.”

“Sure.”

Ruan Yu held the plate with apples to leave the room. She washed the apples in the coffee room, then received a WeChat message.

Huaisong: [I’m at the parking lot downstairs. Everything alright this morning?]

She carried the plate with one hand back to the room while using the other hand to type her reply. Before she could send the reply, she heard a clear splashing noise. It sounded like glass shattering.

Auntie Wu’s screaming immediately followed.

Ruan Yu ran to the room, pushing open the door, and saw Xu Yin, who was doing fine only a short while ago, in a rage. He wasn’t saying anything, but in addition to smashing the glass, he kept smashing the pillow, the sheet, and nearby medicine bottles. He even got off the bed with his bare feet.

The room was filled with all sorts of noises.

Auntie Wu couldn’t calm him down and turned to ring the call button.

Ruan Yu was in shock and saw that Xu Yin was about to step on the broken pieces of glass on the floor. She hurriedly pulled him over: “Uncle, Uncle, be careful of the glass!” She also asked Auntie Wu: “What happened to him?”

“I don’t know. I…… I just turned to a different channel and he suddenly was……”

Ruan Yu turned to look at the TV and immediately saw the picture of a courthouse. It seemed to be a news report about Wei Jin’s case. She understood right away and pulled Xu Yin’s arm towards the bed while saying: “Uncle, don’t be scared. The case’s already……”

She was only half way through her sentence but the moment Xu Yin heard the word “case”, it was like he had become possessed. He threw Ruan Yu’s hand off.

Ruan Yu stumbled and fell down. Instinctively she used her hand to support her body and covered half of her palm with glass shards.

Ignoring the pain, she managed to get back up to help the staggering Xu Yin who was still throwing things around.

The doctor on duty rushed over in time to help Xu Yin back into the bed and get him under control. The doctor then told the nurse outside at the doorway: “Come give him a sedative shot!”

Ruan Yu breathed a sigh of relief and kept panting at the side.

  1. Why would you have an old woman as a caregiver for someone like him? He needs a strong man who can actually control him when he goes out of control.
