Starlight Has No Past - Chapter 4 Part 1

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

Starlight Has No Past
Chapter 4 Part 1

Ye Qiao blankly looked at the cigarette in his hand without saying anything.
Zhou Tingshen slightly raised the tip of his eyebrows and let the ash fall off
the cigarette.
After a while, Ye Qiao turned to look at the needle with a blank look.

The pain from the shot was much less than when the nurse was treating her
wound. Ye Qiao lightly pressed her lips together and kept silent. After the shot,
the nurse gently smiled: “Nowadays girls are all quite squeamish. I don’t see
many like you.” She turned to talk to Zhou Tingshen: “Young man, you should
cherish her.”

There was no point in explaining. Ye Qiao took her cell phone out from her bag
and lowered her head to check messages in order to cover up her embarrassment.
However, her right hand was bandaged up like a bun and it was hard to hold the
cell phone. The phone dropped onto the floor.
Zhou Tingshen quickly extinguished the cigarette and went over to pick it up for her.
A new message happened to appear as he was picking it up. He glanced at the
name of the sender: Gu Jin.
Zhou Tingshen opened the contact list and added his number. Then he returned
the phone to her: “That’s my phone number. Before you come over here tomorrow,
send me a message, or you can come knock on my door…...you know my password
anyway.”
As he spoke seriously, his eyebrows were slightly furrowed the entire time.
Ye Qiao cast her eyes over the numbers, but didn’t take the phone: “And name.”
Zhou Tingshen took the phone back and punched in his name character by character.

Zhou Tingshen.
Ye Qiao took her phone back and glanced over it. She almost laughed at his
earnestness. He had put in his name, email, birthday, social media account, and
his family address. He even put down his work number, with an extension number.
Maybe it was because that they were getting more familiar with each other, Zhou
Tingshen smiled warmly and teased her: “Are you satisfied now?”

Would a person’s looks give the wrong impression to others? Even when he was
frivolous, he still seemed quite composed.

“Your profession?”
The white curtain in the room slowly floated up. He lifted his eyebrows and replied
with an imposing attitude: “A fugitive.”

***

A cold front was passing through, it was always raining in G City lately. Ye Qiao
woke up almost everyday to the sound of rain outside, then she would send a
message to Zhou Tingshen to go the hospital.  Sometimes, she would wake up in
the middle of the night and send a message to ask him about something. He would
reply then as well.
It looked like this man didn’t have a real profession. She could get in touch with him
almost any time of the day. Ye Qiao recalled the night they first met and couldn’t stop
thinking that maybe his profession was shady somehow. There were even times that
she seriously considered the possibility of the word “fugitive.”
It seemed that she had become obsessed with the man.
She seemed to know everything about him, yet, in reality, she didn’t know anything
about him.

Since her hand was still healing, Ye Qiao had turned down all events that required
her to fly to other cities. She commuted from home to the hospital everyday. The
only way for her to keep in touch with the outside world was by the internet.
<Sleeping Wind> had received great reviews and it had done well in the box office
as well which was quite unusual for a drama. Her Weibo fans skyrocketed to well
over 2 million people. The comments under the post she put up a half month ago
increased dramatically, all urging her to post some more.
Ye Qiao checked her friend circle and discovered that it was Cheng Jiang’s birthday
today. The messages were full of #Happy Birthday, Cheng Jiang#. A lot of famous
actors were sending  birthday wishes to her.

She suddenly understood why the news conference for the shooting of <The Watcher>
was scheduled for today.

Starlight Has No Past - Chapter 3 Part 3

Starlight Has No Past
Chapter 3 Part 3

There were new messages in the new WeChat group.
Gu Jin had invited a new person into the group. Ye Qiao could imagine his
warm smile from the words: “Welcome our female lead, Cheng Jiang, into
the group.”
The female lead for <The Watcher> was only recently announced. Only Ye
Qiao knew that Gu Jin had been searching for an actress who could portray
the complex personality of the character.
Ye Qiao had asked him: “Why not me?”
Gu Jin laughed: “You’re too soft.  You don’t have that kind of tenacity.”
So she didn’t get the role for the female lead, a girl who was abducted and
taken to a remote mountain. Instead she took the role of the human trafficker
who had a more simple personality. She used to portrait lonely young woman,
but now playing an antagonist at the bottom of social stratum could be counted
as a breakthrough for her acting career.

Yet, was Cheng Jiang more fitting for the role than her?
She had earned awards with costume dramas. Though she was popular for
quite some years with quite a lot of experience, did it mean that she would be
successful in playing this unconventional female lead?
Ye Qiao twitched half of her lips, a snear. It was actually because she was his
ex-lover and Cheng Jiang was the new found love. It was an undeniable fact
that Cheng Jiang was much more famous than her, in movies or in reality.

Zhou Tingsheng, while driving, noticed from the rear view mirror that Ye Qiao
kept sneering; sometimes as if mocking something, sometimes laughing at herself.
From the moment he first saw her, he felt that she was a living paradox, constantly
fighting with herself.
But, Ye Qiao thought no one could see through it. She acted as if nothing was
bothering her and pointed her own left forehead: “Is your wound here better now?
Will it leave a scar?”
“What?”
“It’s a pity if it leaves a scar on a face like yours.”
Zhou Tingsheng curved his mouth into a smile and didn’t say anything.

She tried to start a conversation as if she didn’t want to remember something:
“When did you move in? The agent was still giving tours around the apartment a
month ago.”
“About half month ago. I didn’t see you when I moved in.”
“I was shooting the movie at that time.”

That was a lie.
At that time she had already finished filming <Sleeping Wind.>  She had stayed
with Gu Jin. If it wasn’t for the fact that she was right there, how could she, who
always wrapped herself in a cocoon, find out about the affair between Gu Jin and
Cheng Jiang?
Zhou Tingsheng noticed that she was once again trapped in her own memories.
He stepped on the brakes: “We’re here.”

The Disease Control and Prevention Center was quite familiar with Ye Qiao’s
condition. The nurse taking care of her was in her forties. She looked at her hand
with sympathy: “The bites are so deep. Such a smooth and tender hand will have
a scar on it now.”
Zhou Tingsheng had just walked in on the conversation after paying fee. It reminded
him what Ye Qiao was talking about in the car. Why didn’t she feel it was a pity for
herself to have a scar on her hand?
Ye Qiao’s only concern was: “I had heart surgery before. Does it matter?”
“Don’t worry. Anyone can get a rabies shot. It doesn’t matter if you had a major
operation before.”
Ye Qiao’s eyes dimmed. Zhou Tingsheng shifted his eyes, though he could swear
that when she asked the question, she was expecting the answer to be “Yes, it matters.”

The nurse gave her the shot: “Such a pity. If it’s a rabid dog, she has to take one more
shot of plasma. She has to come back regularly to take follow up shots. Otherwise,
such a nice young lady, her whole life would be destroyed.”
Ye Qiao was quite calm, her eyebrows weren’t even in a knot. She got over the initial
sting, then felt some satisfaction from the pain.
Zhou Tingsheng asked: “How many more times?”
“The bites are quite deep. It’s better she comes everyday for the next six days.”
Zhou Tingsheng nodded.

The injection was over very quickly. The nurse was very happy with a patient who
didn’t flinch from pain. She put the bandage over and smiled: “You look very much
like a movie star. What’s her name? I can’t remember.”
Zhou Tingsheng was leaning against the window, smoking. He turned to check Ye
Qiao’s reaction and found that she was also glancing over at him.
It was all white in the background, her lips were a little pale as well. The window had
been opened for him to smoke and now a breeze blew in and lifted her hair over her eyes.

Zhou Tingsheng was probably the most unromantic person in existence. He asked:
“What are you looking at?”

You're Beautiful When You Smile - Chapter 35 Part 6

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

You’re Beautiful When You Smile
Chapter 35 Part 6

There was a row of various claw machines over there.

Tong Yao followed Liangsheng’s eyes and easily spotted a crowd gathered
in front of one of the machines. There were two tall, eye-catching men standing
in the middle of the crowd-- --

Amidst the admiring eyes of young girls and the envious eyes of children,
one of the men held a sack full of the various toys from different claw machines
and leaned against the claw machine which was even shorter than he was; the
other man, with a huge Pikachu hanging from his neck, was standing in front
of the machine controlling the stick with his lean and long fingers. He had
successfully picked up the palm sized stuffed animal……

The people around them cried out, “so cool” “how many is this one” “they’ve
almost cleaned out all the machines here”-- --

The man had his eyes cast down and had no emotion on his face.

He acted just like the numerous times that Tong Yao had watched him control
his champion to pulverize the enemy’s nexus.

Tong Yao: “......”

She stood there speechless. The young men next to her had already happily
rushed towards the red haired man leaning against the machine while calling
the man’s game id. He pushed away the crowd with all his might and squeezed
in front of the red haired guy, grabbing the man’s wrist and starting to gesture
lively while talking……

Lu Sicheng bent down to take out the stuffed animal from the claw machine.
When he straightened up, he took a look at the grateful captain from next door
who had finally found his AD. He seemed to sense something and turned to
look back-- --

He immediately saw his own Mid behind him who had three umbrellas under
her arm and one umbrella in her hand. She was looking at him incredulously
and not willing to get any closer to him.

Lu Sicheng took out his cell phone to check the time and found out that his
phone had ran out of battery and died.

He put the phone back into his pocket, then noticed that his friend was saying
sorry while pushing the sack of toys into the young man’s hands. His friend
said something in Korean, Lu Sicheng considerately translated for him: “He
said he’s terribly sorry and all these toys are for you.”

Liangsheng: “......”

Lu Sicheng walked over to Tong Yao and took over all the umbrellas she was
carrying: “Did you look for us long?”

Tong Yao moved around her arm: “One hour.”

Lu Sicheng: “Oh.” He was about to tell Tong Yao to call for a taxi to go back.
When he looked down, he saw the girl was still fixing her eyes on that sack of
toys in Liangsheng’s arms.
He paused: “What are you doing?”

“......” Tong Yao shifted her eyes, lightly glanced over the Pikachu on Lu
Sicheng’s neck, and flatly said: “Nothing. Let’s go back. I’m freezing to death.”

She turned to walked away after she spoke.

The man paused a bit, then followed her.

Tong Yao walked in the front, ignoring the person behind. Suddenly she felt
something heavy placed on her shoulders and pressing against her back. She
stopped and lowered her head to check the claws of Pikachu around her neck.
She raised her head and confusedly looked back. The man pushed the last
stuffed animal he had caught into her hand and patted her head: “It’s still raining
outside. Call for a ride back on your phone.”

Tong Yao replied with an oh and looked down. The stuffed animal in her hand
was a pink lop-eared rabbit, holding a carrot in its arms.

…...It was a cute stuffed animal.

Those Sweet Times - Chapter 19 Part 3

Translated by Team DHH at http://dhh-workshop.blogspot.com.

Those Sweet Times
Chapter 19 Part 3

Lin Chuyan started laughing silently the moment Xiang Nuan opened her
eyes since he was afraid of making her angry. He tightened his lips, trying
very hard to hold back the laughter. His shoulders were trembling ever so
slightly. Seeing that Xiang Nuan was going to blow up, he hurriedly said:
“Don’t be angry. I’ll sing for you.”

“You think you can solve the problem by singing? !”

“I’ll sing for you for a whole week, every day of the week.”

“You, you…...better keep to your words!”

Actually, she really wanted to refuse the offer, but she just couldn’t. She
despised herself!

Xiang Nuan was now occupied by complex emotions. She was angry about
the pig nose, yet felt depressed that she couldn’t show her anger properly.
She was spiteful towards Lin Chuyan, ashamed of herself for give in so easily,
and furthermore, secretly joyful, something she didn’t want to admit and
couldn’t overlook-- --after all, she could listen to Lin Chuyan sing for a week.

Her face was a window into her changing emotions. Lin Chuyan kept watching
her and carefully reminded her: “The corn should be cool enough to eat now.”
He said in a petty and low voice as if he was afraid of frightening her.

Xiang Nuan angrily picked up the corn and took a big bite of it.

She ate her oden and corn while looking at her sketches of Shen Zemu. Her
heart was bleeding, yet her stomach was content.

A short while later, Lin Chuyan patted her shoulder and motioned to the register.

She turned her face and saw Shen Zemu and Waiwai. They had already
selected their late night snacks and were about to pay at the register. The
clerk repeated the same words to the two men: “Today’s Singles Day, couples
can get half price.”

Waiwai immediately grabbed Shen Zemu’s hand: “We’re couples.”

“I’ll believe it if you kiss each other.”

Waiwai hesitated a bit, deciding whether he should kiss Shen Zemu. He
thought it should be fine since they were such good buddies. He tried to
get a little closer.

Shen Zemu had already pulled back the hand grabbed by Waiwai. As Waiwai
was getting closer, Shen Zemu put his palm on Waiwai’s face and forcefully
pushed him away.

Then he added a kick.

Waiwai was pushed back quite some distance. He felt he had been unfairly
treated and muttered: “You called me little sweetheart yesterday and today
you kick me.”

Shen Zemu felt like cutting someone down.

“How much. Don’t need a discount.” Shen Zemu said.

The clerk: “Are you two together?”

“No, I don’t know him.”

Shen Zemu paid for his stuff and turned around to see Xiang Nuan and Lin
Chuyan. The two sat on the bar stools. Xiang Nuan was holding a corn cob
with one side of her cheek slightly puffing out and a corn kernel hanging at
the corner of her lips. Lin Chuyan was holding a half eaten fish ball in his hand.

The expressions on both of them reminded Shen Zemu of the word ‘simpleton.’
The word was custom made for the two of them.

Shen Zemu squinted his eyes, realizing they had seen everything as they ate.

He felt especially awkward. Waiwai sometimes would make this kind of joke
with him and he usually didn’t take it too seriously. But tonight he felt particularly
embarrassed. He walked towards the counter with his food. Xiang Nuan’s eyes
followed him, as he moved from far away to close by.

When he passed by Xiang Nuan, he unexpectedly said: “I’m straight.” He cursed
after he spoke, why did he explain this for?

Xiang Nuan simple mindedly nodded. “I know.” Her thinking was that it would
be a big joke if the god I had a crush on was a gay……

Shen Zemu was so uncomfortable with the situation and looked away.  He
happened to glance at those drawings.

Then he saw his own face and…...the pig nose on his face.

Shen Zemu: “......”

He really wanted to cut someone down.
