Undefeated - League of Legends - Book 1: Chapter 22

Book 1: The Return of the Lost King
Chapter 22: The Atmosphere of Esports

“Hey, what are you doing here?” After school, Wang Qin stared with unfriendly eyes at Lin Xu who was waiting in the hallway.

Lin Xu wasn’t in a good mood either. He just couldn’t figure out why his team had lost so miserably to this bunch of lousy players!

“Uhm, we won one round before and you won one round afterwards. Our two classes are even now.” Lin Xu sneered.

“You really know how to find excuses for yourself. So what are you up to now?” Wang Qin said.

“Let’s have a final round!” Lin Xu clenched his teeth and said.

The whole senior class knew about the news of room 3’s loss to room 8; all the LoL players in other classrooms were talking about it. Lin Xu, who was known as the strongest LoL player in the whole high school, felt ashamed!

“I knew it, you just can’t accept the fact.” Wang Qin coldly said and slapped hard on Yu Luocheng’s shoulder.

He meant that with Yu Luocheng on our side, you would lose no matter how many more rounds we played!

“Let’s do it again next week.  This time each side can invite an outside player. Double the bet, do you dare to do it?” Lin Xu said.

That would 2000 RMB with a double bet. This amount was a bit overboard as the bet among students.

“I’m poor, can’t afford to play this much money.” Wang Qin was keeping it cool this time.

“Then we won’t bet any money. Simply just play one more round.” Lin Xu said.

Wang Qin glanced at Yu Luocheng who was surrounded by all the LoL players of room 8. Wang Qin thought it would be better to let Yu make the decision.

“I’m not interested.” Yu Luocheng firmly refused.

Lin Xu and his team would be losing no matter how many rounds they replayed. Yu Luocheng didn’t want to waste time on these newbies.

“You…...are you chickening out?” Lin Xu sneered again.

Yu Luocheng didn’t even bother to respond; he put on his backpack and left.

“Hum, doesn’t have the guts to play another round. I thought room 8 was better than that. You won a round with luck then start to chicken out?” Lin Xu started to taunt.

Wang Qin wasn’t happy to hear that and yelled loudly, “who are you calling a chicken?”

“You’re not? Then let’s play one more round! You guys pick the time and place!” Lin Xu said.

“Let’s do it then. We will crush you into piece!” Wang Qin felt last time he didn’t beat them bad enough, they should continue the beating. “Luocheng, won’t you say so?”

“Play by yourself. I’m not playing anyway.” Yu Luocheng said directly.

“Damn, what’s wrong with you?” Wang Qin was stunned.

Yu Luocheng didn’t bother to explain. He could play those boring games once in a long while but he was not interested in playing them so often.

Lin Xu watched Yu Luocheng left and anger flashed in his eyes!

The reason he had asked Mi Ge to help them play was to beat this guy, but he refused to play. Then how could he get even?

Yu Luocheng didn’t pay attention to the two. He quickly joined in with the after school crowd.

He moved briskly; it seemed like he wanted to leave Wang Qin behind but it also seemed like he was chasing after someone.

“Ah, what a coincidence.” Yu Luocheng smiled and happily said to the girl next to him.

“Coincidence? I saw you trying to catch up with me the entire way!” Yang Qian Qian sulkily snapped at him.

Yu Luocheng grinned in embarrassment; his intentions had been found out.

When Wang Qin and Lin Xu was bickering, Yu Luocheng already saw Yang Qian Qian.

Usually, Yang Qian Qian would walk with some other girls but she was alone today. Yu wouldn’t miss this rare chance so he overlooked those two guys and chased after her in a hurry.

“Are you playing this weekend?” Yu asked.

It was Friday again. After tomorrow, it was another precious weekend.

“Maybe not. My dad is taking me out.” Yang said.

“Oh, I happen to have asked someone to play ranked with me.” Yu nodded.

Yang stared at him and said, “then why ask!”

……

“The college entrance exam is only two, three months away. Which college do you plan to go?” Yang Qian Qian asked Yu Luocheng.

No matter what, college entrance exam is the most important thing. No matter how good one is playing games, the grades still is more important.

“You asking me?” Yu answered.

“Who else is here?” Yang Qian Qian felt that Yu was acting strangely.  He had run up to start chatting with her, but he acted as if he was absent-minded.

“I don’t know yet.” Yu said.

Which college?

To tell the truth, Yu Luocheng was quite confused.

He didn’t really care which college he could get into because he had studied hard just to not disappoint his parents.

Whichever college that his parents thought was good for his future, then he would go there. Yu Luocheng didn’t really care anyway.

“An airhead. Every time I see you in school, you always look like you’re still half asleep. Is school making you drowsy?” Yang pursed up her lips.

“You are observing me?” Yu was flattered.

“Who’s observing you!” Yang unhappily said.

“Alright, how about, next time when you peek at me, I will pretend to be in high spirits?” Yu Luocheng frivolously smiled.

Yang Qian Qian rolled her eyes and thought that this guy was really shameless.

“I like Zhejiang University.” Yang steered the conversation back on track.

“Oh, I prefer Shanghai.”

“Why?”

Yu didn’t answer.

Yang Qian Qian liked to play LoL but she treated it only as an online game.

For Yu Luocheng, who had been a professional esports player, it was hard for him to just treat it as a game for passing the time.

He had promised his parents not to touch esports anymore, but deep down in his heart he still held fantasies about esports.

Shanghai is a place in this country where esports is valued more than other places.

If there was a choice, Yu Luocheng would like to go to college in Shanghai. Even if he would not touch esports, he would be happy to experience the atmosphere of esports over there.

Yu had several old friends in Shanghai.

One year had passed without a trace, Yu missed them a lot. He wondered whether these veteran DotA players had tried out LoL or not.

They should have. LoL was the hottest game now. It seemed that everyone as young as 8 and 9 year old kids or as old as 50 or 60 year old seniors knew about the culture of Demacia.

They were talented esports players, there was no reason that they didn’t try their hands on it.

Maybe, they had already formed a team themselves or were members of some famous teams.
